Thanks to everyone for supporting my recent twitter campaign "Followers for Food" which ended yesterday. From Ocotber 4 to November 4 I pledged to donate $10 for every new follower to my twitter feed @cowboykenny. Followers to my twitter feed are alerted first when new posts go up and from time to time I share pearls of wisdom and chuckles through out the day. I'm happy to say that I have 26 new followers which amounts to a 260 dollar donation to the Ottawa Food Bank, the equivalent of 50 spaghetti dinners and 30 after school snacks or 8 cases of eggs. In fact because of the buying power the food bank has along with the support of corporate sponsors each dollar dollar donated has the equivalent of 5 dollars, so the $260 donation actually amounts to $ 1300 of nutritious food for Ottawa families , singles and seniors in need. As with most things that people don't understand I think there is a tendency to stereotype... while things are changing slowly society has looked down on sex workers and the services they provide so I guess it is understandable that many would continue to think there is something wrong with clients. I think like most things there is as many reasons why men seek out the companionship of a service provider as there are men. For my part I am just a regular guy ... involved in my community... great job... wonderful family... my initial involvement I think came from purely the excitement of sex with someone new after 20 plus years if marriage but what I came to appreciate especially in the last year is the wonderful caring relationship that can develop with your service provider... it is not constrained by all the real life realities that inhabit us in our civilian lives... it can give you a level if intimacy that is amazing because both people are truly living in the moment they are sharing. Early in this thread someone mentioned the lying in bed holding a beautiful woman's hand and I think they were right it is about those moments and the nonjudgmental conversations as much as it is about the great sex. I would actually consider race issues an example of where great progress has been made. It is true there are still many problems, especially on a systemic level, but when you look at how much has changed in a mere generation or two there is reason to be hopeful rather than despairing. I'd agree with you it is harder to spot and root out racism when it isn't overt or public, but being forced underground as you put it is part of the process. While I have my doubts that racism, sexism, or many of the others "ism's" will ever be fully eliminated, it's nevertheless amazing the degree to which things have improved. It is certainly not hard to still find examples of homophobia, for example, but look at the progress made by in finding acceptance and equal rights despite sexual orientation in our society just in the last generation. And there are other examples of stigmas which have been all but eliminated. Being Irish in America used to make someone a second class citizen. Just two generations ago people of Gaelic heritage were forbidden to speak that language in school to the point that the language was almost lost. When my father was a child he could be hit in school for writing with his left hand! It is true that, for clients and companions, the stigma is of a different nature and there may never be full understanding or acceptance, and perhaps it only looks like progress is impossible because it is slow, yet over time who knows what will happen? And there are signs of improvement. Never has there been a time when there were so many service providers publicly advocating for themselves, attempting to educate people. Technology like the Internet has also helped. Just speaking for myself, being able to read websites and blogs of escorts, and forums like Cerb have done wonders to educate me on our community. Surely I'm not alone in that? I would even take it as a good sign that, for what I imagine is the first time, you can find examples in popular entertainment depicting escorting as a normal and positive aspect of a society (Kushiel's Dart novels; Firefly tv series). The process may be slow, it may ebb back and forth at times, it may never be complete...but in the long run? There's always hope.

I think everyone goes out sometimes. I'm not sure what let loose means but I don't think anyone prevents themselves from living because they are an SP or an MA. It's a rule that if you recognize an SP or MA while you're out and about that you don't approach them, the same goes for an SP or MA who recognizes a client out in public. We keep our distance, pretend we don't know each other, and perhaps send a PM or an e-mail to be like "Hey! I saw you!" in a not-so-creepy way ;) Alternatively, (and if more appropriate), you don't e-mail or PM at all... especially if there wasn't mutual recognition or you've never met the person privately.

Yeah, I've actually had considerably better luck with local independent Halifax ladies than with agency girls from big cities, almost to the point of avoiding the big agencies completely. I've never encountered drugs or henchmen on a date around here. For a small market I think we some of the best SP's in the country.

My view on this has evolved over my time as an SP. I don't have any age restrictions at all and I do not ask for your age when someone requests an appointment with me. In fact, I welcome men of all ages to respectfully contact me if they are interested in what I have to offer them. I ignore any and all requests that are below my standards, regardless of age. I've found less-than-desirable men of all ages, and while maybe there are a few more young guys who haven't learned how to talk to a woman yet, I wouldn't personally ban them all because of a few bad apples. Of course, to each their own though, and for some it's just a comfort thing, and everyones own preferences are to be respected. I've seen many young university students, as young as 19 years old. I've had a great time with many of them, and still see some of them regularly. If they can compose a nice introduction, give me all the info I need and they seem respectful and friendly, I have no issues with age at all. It actually turns me on a bit when younger dudes are looking for an experienced lady a few years their senior rather than a girl their own age. That alone shows me some kind of maturity. I also think that for young guys, especially university students, or those starting out in their career, if they have the means, seeing an SP is a great option. I personally just can't and won't do short encounters like this , but, I don't think that's what these threads about short versus longer encounters end up about anyway (that is the direction this thread has taken); that is, personal preference and mere discussion about the ins and outs of such service offerings. They clearly take on a tone of debasement and abjection and we should all know by now who the stigma largely clings to. To be clear, this statement is not about reducing any one particular comment made by my fellow members to a sum total judgement, but rather, reflects an observation about the overall character such discussion has taken on....and, tends to take on... I was contacted recently by a man who wanted a half hour session with me. When I informed him it was a one hour minimum, he became irate and disrespectful and continued on trying to negotiate obtaining my services anyway...as though I was some sort of irritating pylon to get by to get by to reach his single-minded end-goal. When I told him it was clear to me we were not a good fit due to the hostility I was sensing, he proceeded to tell me I was essentially a 'fat cum dump anyway'. I was astonished. Some say I shouldn't be; that such qualifying, hateful remarks are all around and to be expected here and there if I'm going to remain in the industry. It doesn't matter if it was transparent and pathetic; after all, he'd been interested and turned on enough to contact me! It still hurt, and went to the core of my being. I agree with you, Nicolette (Vaughn), that it is truly upsetting when men seeking our services do not respect our boundaries.....who assert an automatic sense of entitlement to access our time and our bodies without respect for the business model we are going by and the parameters we have set. And, be prepared to accept our answers! And, at the level of our participation on the forum, let's be mindful of how our words and ideas transform themselves from mere subject content and 'free' and 'open' discussion to qualifying value judgments about the relative value of our colleagues, and the customers they bring pleasure to. Service Providers have their reasons for doing things the way they do. It is a highly competitive industry out there. Socio-economic privilege and access to certain markets play a huge role here, as do the personal motivations and short and long term economic goals and needs of SPs in making such determinations about how to run their businesses. Service Providers need our thoughtful care, affirmation and concern. Let's start more threads about that! Just read this now. Respectfully Cleo, it was not my intent to insult other ladies who offer 15 min appts. I was simply saying that it makes me feel a certain way ( i.e. a device for a quick release rather than feeling like I'm being treated like a person) and especially since I DON'T offer these sessions and make it quite clear in my ads.
