I love the additional comments, but I think we are all wasting our time making any suggestions to improve the site, or mentioning how it could be or is being perceived. We started out doing that, and got shot down for it. MJL, isn't it better to work towards including and getting the support from everyone, not just some? Saying that many do isn't really a recommendation, when it is being said in order to shame those who have made what they consider helpful comments. lol, at 'small minority'. lol, it is clear to me that you have spent very little time talking with abolitionists. They are very adamant that people like 'happy hookers' are clearly the very very "small minority". As they are quick to point out the majority, that 95%, are not willing, all victims, and definitely not 'happy'. So this 'small minority", which we know is actually the majority, do not count. It's funny to me that you would use that as a term to discount the ones that don't matter to you, that small minority. wtf rep comments?

So I didn't want to reply but I think what you said here is exactly what is missing from the site. This Bill is criminalizing the ability to screen clients and the SCC already unequivocally established that screening is vital to the safety of sex workers. You mention that it was the ability to screen your clients that increased your happiness because it changed your feelings of fear AND that is going to trigger a response from MPs or to attract MPs to listen to your messaging. Otherwise, like I have previously mentioned, the MPs will brush you aside and all sides of the political spectrum will dismiss your voice as a small minority or someone the Bill isn't meant to protect. You may argue that you are not a victim and that your voice isn't being heard but the logic behind the Bill isn't meant to protect the non-exploited sex workers. You can call this an opinion but I am telling you, your site misses the point of the charter challenge, the SCC decision and the government response (the Bill). These facts are undeniable. The SCC also said that third party violence does not negate the role of the state in creating the harms. If the Bill prevents a sex workers' ability to screen and the SCC already unequivocally established that screening is vital to the safety of sex workers, then the state is negating its role in creating harms in sex workers' lives. You can be happy all you want but you need to make it clear why you are happy on your site and why screening has protected you. Like I said, this isn't about happiness it is about safety and protection--the right to life, liberty, and security of person (FYI happiness isn't included in establishing the legal test for this type of charter challenge). And as for your comment, "why do your feelings matter and mine dont?" I never once said this was about my feelings. This isn't personal. Also thank you Gabriella for asking a much needed question!

One thing I will say about all of this, is that it has brought to light how flawed our justice system is. In other words, if the SCC renders a decision, then forthcoming laws by government should be made to follow that ruling - not disregarded only to have similarly bad laws enacted so that we are forced to endure the same harms all over again. There should be some clause that lets the SCC intervene in a situation such as this, instead of going through another court challenge to have them (eventually) struck down (again). Additional Comments: Let's not forget we're talking about the Harper Conservatives here... they probably still believe the earth is flat too...

While safety is of great importance to me, it's certainly not the only thing that makes me happy. Freedom, independence, financial security, etc combine to make me happy. Just got back from a day of being a tourist at home. Went whale watching in the Bay of Fundy and seen lots of whales and sea birds. Had lunch at a place ive always wanted to try and was amazing. Then spent the day with friends on a deck downtown. Life is good.

I have had many memorable dates with Emily. And each time we see each other our time together gets better and better. Our relationship has gone beyond just SP/Client, we have become good friends. For me, the important thing about this weekend was being with Emily, so I was very flexible on what we did. But what lady doesn't like going to a spa (conventional "civilian" spa that is) So I booked a couples massage for us at a spa. Emily's smile, knowing she was getting pampered at a spa, that made it all worthwhile. And I had my first ever spa day. When our spa session finished, we walked back, stopping to take in the view of the Falls. And we slowly made our way back to our room. We spent the afternoon in our suite relaxing, having drinks over pleasant conversation. And as things progressed, we went to bed, kissing caressing and snuggling with one another. Then Emily looked at me with a smile on her face, and said she has another surprise for me. But I won't see it until close to dinner. So I patiently waited...something difficult to do while in bed with a beautiful Goddess. But the clock got closer to when we needed to get ready for our dinner out. I quickly got dressed, and then Emily came in and kicked me out of the bedroom. A few minutes later, out she came and well WOW!!!.....Emily emerged wearing a very sexy white and black summer dress. Again, I woke up to Emily's smile, a smile that brightens a room. But today was our last day together. We lounged in bed for a bit, then headed down for breakfast But all good things must come to an end. Emily had a flight to catch and I had to go home. So we packed up. I went downstairs to the lobby with Emily to see her off. We hugged and kissed good bye. But the weekend seemed all too short, it could have lasted a lifetime for me. A lot of details of this weekend are private and will remain that way. Because they are special memories between two friends, and not to be shared. But I do consider myself a very lucky man to have met Emily, and that we clicked and have a special connection. Emily is a very special lady, even more beautiful on the inside than on the out. She is a caring supportive friend, a gem with a heart of gold. I consider myself blessed to be counted as her friend. And any gentleman should feel fortunate if Emily agrees to have a date with you. Hmmm, I don't know how to say this without upsetting anyone. I get that MJL wanted to take some sort of action. I commend you for stepping up to the plate and filling (what you thought) was a gap in the discussion. However, I have to say that the major issue with the happy hooker narratives is when the anti-sex workers employ these arguments, "If you are so happy with your job why aren't you out and proud as a sex worker?" Well there are a lot of reasons why, the main one, criminalization. As a sex worker, if you are charged with any prostitution related charges, then you will not be able to cross the border. If you are a mother and you are outed as a sex worker, you may potentially lose your children or access to your children. If you are a sex worker and are working other forms of employment, you could lose your other forms of employment. If you are a sex worker and a student, you could potentially damage your future career--yes some sex workers only do this part time and to help fund schooling. If you are a sex worker and you volunteer with certain organizations (or want to volunteer with certain organizations), sometimes those require background checks and/or a "clean" criminal record. Some sex workers are alienated from their family/friends and/or their personal/professional relationships are harmed and they are pushed further to isolation and alienation. Not everyone can be out and proud because of the risk of criminalization which contributes to stigmatization, alienation, and isolation especially for the most marginalized sex work populations. There are so many other things you could lose access to if you are out and proud as a sex worker like access to equitable health care, access to housing, access to safety and security, access to social supports--this isn't just about a few sex workers who can afford all the nice things in life, plus happiness and more. While I get that the intentions were good and that someone wanted to have their story heard, that could have been done in many ways that does not feed into these anti-sex work narratives. The antis and the government HAVE already said that if you are safe and it was criminal before, then what is the problem with sex work STILL being criminal, As quoted by Hillyer, "In the sex worker's letter...if these people are already willing to give their information during this illegal activity, I am not sure why they would not under this new legislation." The site says, "a happy hooker is a safe hooker" and if this all that is needed, then I am certain that the antis will also say, "well, you don't have to have your work decriminalized for your safety then" and they already HAVE made this argument plenty of times--they always argue, "this is for the victims!" and this is what the happy hooker site contributes to--these happy hooker/victim narratives. The site basically says that sex work doesn't need to be decriminalized and supports the intent of the Bill, which is "to protect the victims and if you aren't a victim, then you don't have to worry! The Bill doesn't worry about you!" You can be a proud sex worker/hooker/whatever but when we feed into these larger discourses, we run the risk of hurting the case for decriminalization which is access to rights not access to happiness. I hope, Jessica, you realize that nobody is attacking you personally. I also hope what I said was clear and if you have any questions/comments/concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me or reply here.

What I do not know is a lot, but what I am reasonably confident of is that one commonality among Cerb members and elsewhere, clients or sex workers, is the desire to stop this insane legislation.The correct way, or the best way to do this is certainly not unanimously agreed upon. I have written here in the past about my faith that wisdom would prevail, and then I wrote after Bill C-36 was introduced about the need to follow proper process and procedure. After watching the hearings I wrote some pretty crazy stuff here as well, and my progression in thought has changed as I have seen the intransigence of government and come to the realization that this will pass and that many are sluffing it off as no problem because the Supreme Court will overturn it. First that is in no way a sure thing but more important is that in the time for that process to be followed from start to finish is the question of how many sex workers will be hurt, killed or criminalized As well, the forgotten people are the clients as well who will face increased danger and certain criminal charges if `caught.`` I have serious reservations about creating a two tier level of sex workers and clients. I am not ready to abandon street workers or those sex workers who ARE in this industry solely because of a lack of viable choices, and there is NO doubt in my mind that they DO exist. Experience thus far seems to say that the proper process and procedure methodology has gotten us nowhere, but a Happy Hooker type campaign as noted may not be any more effective, and may hurt. Conservative `spin,`regardless of who says what in whichever forum is going to belittle supporters and discredit them with every opportunity. Ms. McDonald from Maggie`s delivered an amazing presentation before the committee and yet was disregarded and asked foolish questions by many of the committee members. The Happy Hooker reference from Conservative Stella Ambler shows how they will treat any discussion by consenting adults. The bottom line is that I certainly do not know the `best,`way, but I am quite confident that supporters of this bill will delight in any sort of a split in a coordinated response. Each of us will choose to do what we think is best and afterwards, keep in mind making donations to Maggie`s or POWER, as it is through their efforts that this is going to be fought in courtrooms.

^ Yeah retirements can be sad, after working with people for years suddenly you never see them again. My best friend's dad was one of the RCMP executive. He retired and had a very difficult time for the first few months. He went from being a real "big shot" to being an ordinary guy. But after six months he loved being retired!

New Brunswick has a bit of everything. Coastal areas, forest areas, hills, lakes and streams. If you like biking, just outside of Saint John is St Martins. A small fishing village and a great park you can bike or walk seeing the ocean. You can also see the caves at low tide. This is the funds trail. Saint John also has the reversing falls where at high tide it pushes the Saint John river back and is great for jet skis. Just ignore the pulp mill lol. Lots more to see but thought a good start.

Totally agree. Before she shuffled off the mortal coil, my mother went for her driving test in Renfrew. Because of her advanced age and the early morning test time and because she had to drive a fair distance to get to the Testing Centre, she booked a room in a local motel. On her way to the motel she got into an accident (pulled into traffic without looking) and had the front end of her Lincoln Town Car torn off, engine and all. Fortunately she was not hurt. In fact she managed to convince the local policeman to give her a ride to the motel. The next day she took the test and passed with flying colours. At age 88, my dear Mom was the proud owner of a new drivers license. It was never used. I refused to buy her another car and soon after she moved into an assisted living facility. Imagine if she had a car? She might have killed herself or others. Shame on Ontario for taking the 'arms length' approach. BTW - the local doctors were little help. None would intercede to help us have the license revoked. Hence the Machiavellian approach to deny her another vehicle. She traded in her Lincoln for a walker.

I have used the Get-a-way Room several times. And the answer is...it depends. It depends on the MA, it depends on my mood, it depends on the amount of time booked. Sometimes the jacuzzi is a great ice breaker. You and your attendant have time to get to know each other face to face before you hop on the table. The room is larger than the regular rooms and it is kept at a comfortable temperature, just right for cavorting in the nude. Sometimes I prefer to get right down to business, so to speak. Next thing you know, Harper's go-fer McKay is telling everyone how out of touch she is...As if McKay knows more about the law than a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Could you possibly be more arrogant and self-important Petey boy? Edit: he railed against the Senate before being elected. Now he sees it as a reward for loyal Tories and a place to put fund raisers like Pamela Wallin and Mike Duffy. Yes, the two senators he knew personally for many years but he had no idea they lived in Ottawa. Shocked he was! Those two did no actual work in the Senate. All they did was fly around at our expense making speeches at Tory fundraising events. So Harper got two very effective fundraisers, paid for by the taxpayers. Now he thinks, the Senate isn't bad! Yes it's worth joining CMJ but its also worth going to ALO, Paradise Spa/Angels Touch, VibeUrbanSpa and other smaller locations. However you will not be getting a massage from a place but from a lady. Therefore just like seeing an SP, getting a massage is all about the lady and the connection you will establish, not where you meet her. Some ladies have worked at different spas and it certainly has not changed their service or personality. My recommendation is look at the different spa's account on here and their website, check ladies pic and for those that catch your attention check the recco section see what has been written about them. I would like to vouch for both CMJ and Angel's Touch as well. Both agencies are very well managed and with five star accommodations. The letters specificall ask to include suggestions for the gov on how to make YOUR particular situation better. 3. The letters we have received range from sparkly strippers with sugar daddies to oiled up massage girls paying for college to street level workers who found enjoyment thru connection. We have stories from owners, and from clients. They are beautiful unique stories. Some sad. Some joyful. All impactful and important they be heard. This movement is only to voice our stories, our experiences. I had an amazing career. Im very lucky. I in turn provide an amazing experience for my staff.
