I had the opportunity last night to have an in-depth discussion about C-36 with an Ottawa policeman. All this was off the record, he was speaking only for himself and his situation may change but none the less it was interesting. Based on what he's been told, he does not see any major changes on the horizon. They will continue the occasional street level John Sweep. The guys will get charged. The SPs most likely won't. As for SPs working from their home, condo, apartments or agencies, they have no interest in pursuing them. The probable results are not worth the investment in time and resources. Besides, he said, those people are paying their taxes just like any other person so barring any complaints, why would they bother them? He said this was the same for agencies, independents and "rub & tugs". He explained that they, the police, are generally in a reactive mode. There is only so much money, manpower, and resource available so they will react to community issues (complaints). The closest thing to proactive effort he mentioned was a Sergeant who was reaching out to women working from ....... to make sure the SPs were aware of the resources available to them in case they had problems. Apparently this Sergeant got into difficulty when he got a little too friendly with the SPs but that's a different story. He's not aware of any new money being allocated to address this "issue". Bottom line: Don't go looking for sex on street corners. Be discrete. Life will go on.

Alexis, Sophia was directing that at my post. I certainly don't want guys to think they can call up a provider and ask her what they will get for their money. If, however, SHE wishes to tell a client what she enjoys during her encounters, that her choice. I think the biggest task is going to be re-training clients, as Angela mentioned. Especially here in BC where this industry has always been pretty accepted and things are fairly open and easy-going here. However, not all municipalities take as tolerant and benevolent a view on our industry and as a rule, I think it's a good idea to stick to basic information and key phrases like "open-minded" (can we still use that? Surely, I would think we can). Clients will just have to learn to read between the lines. And in the end, I find clients that don't want a menu are almost always better clients than the ones who are eager to reduce your companionship to how good your .... skills are or other such things. It's been said by many ladies, and it bears mentioning again: this is chance for us girls to bring back some of the tact and elegance of our companionship. Yes, many clients will not catch on as they are either unaware of the new law and/or they're just stubborn. Ultimately, you have to decide for yourself what you consider to be okay in terms of how you interact with clients before meeting them. If you're comfortable going into detail over the phone, just be aware of the risks involved. There are many advocacy groups in many cities around Canada, and I see no reason why you shouldn't contact them and/or speak to the liason officer at your municipality's police department about the reality of this law. Afterall, while a law may be on the books, the reality of enforcing it may not be so severe. It's good to be informed so you can make a choice that you are comfortable with and that works for you.

Ok - so when a guy calls a new play who is offering a unbelievable special, and he asks for "details of what she will do," and then finds out its a sting. Is his defense going to be "I was told it's best to ask by phone." I'm sorry, but I feel we are giving a false illusion that text and email is not ok, but voice calling is, and is doing them a disservice to them. They should be able to understand by the ad itself. My point is that clients should not be asking for details except to clarify rates and locations.

I agree. I think what the poster meant is to call for further details. Nothing was said about soliciting ......... It is best to call for further details as code words can be better used in conversation.

I read the post you are referring to and she never said she would tell them what she "enjoys" during her encounter. Which is why it's always best to clarify what someone means rather than assuming. As for answering questions by voice call, I have no problem doing that to a certain extent. Besides, it is not illegal for us to discuss these things on the phone. Yes, guys shouldn't be doing this because it's technically soliciting sex for money. But that doesn't mean they still aren't going to and we need to come up with well prepared answers. It's going to take some time to "train" them on the new etiquette. I have been working in-call for years and was technically breaking the law, but no-one seemed to worry about that. Honestly I don't see much changing except the way I word my ads and answer written correspondence.

If an acronym is deemed unsuitable, I am assuming the "long form" term which is undoubtedly more obvious must also be banned. Again, this is just my assumption. If I can't say 3 little letters (which were considered "secret code" for SEXUAL ACTS) I highly doubt mod would let me spell it out in plain English. Afterall, the acronym could have been short form for "anything" whereas the full on terms are rather straightforward and quite explicit. If anything, the long form would/should be banned before any acronyms.

As an experienced hobbyist for the past eight years I can honestly say that the price paid for " " time and companionship " typically can have nothing to do with how much you enjoyed the encounter. In some cases I paid a very high donation and had a less than average time and other times paid a much lower donation and had an incredible very memorable time. One thing I can say is in many cases there can be no rhyme or reason to this hobby in this regard. Having said that I will continue to enjoy the good times and shrug off the less than good times. You're first post, which we both commented on, said nothing about restrictions. You just said phone calls were OK, which was very vague. We only both pointed out that soliciting over the phone is not OK, neither of us "accused" you of soliciting sex; we both just spelled out the minor details a tad further for the uninformed reader.

There is also some PM adjustments being made .. certain acronyms are being replaced with "........." I thought I had received the weirdest PM ever until the writer clarified a bit more. Relax, the new bill is just being released, and I don't think LE and the prosecutors know yet how to proceed. A lot of us have been saying pretty much this since C-36 was looming months ago. Even when certain things were illegal, LE didn't go around busting everyone they could find. C-36 won't change that. The biggest difficulties will be in us ladies advertising effectively and having our online communities like Cerb. Independent ladies and agencies likely will get zero troubles from LE. We've beaten this discussion to death over many threads, and frankly I'm not the slightest bit surprised that an officer told you this. This law sounds scary, but it's up to LE to enforce it, and they've never been too concerned about busting up the sex trade. It's pretty low on the list when you've got rapists, murderers, thieves and all manner of other criminals out there.

Even that video is really extreme, but Sweden has the law for 15 years, and they have set up their decision to lurk outside of ....... like that to enforce it. Since that is the 'norm' there now, it isn't unusual there. but it is far from being the norm here, they don't do it now, they could do it now, and could have done it for the past 30 years but they do not. even in the video example, first they received a phone call from a client who found the ad, contacted the sp, and believes she is the victim of trafficking. he reported the ad to LE, who followed up. In this case, first there is a desire to help someone who may be a victim, not harass an adult consenting sex worker. In almost every article that i've seen so far with LE being asked about enforcement or concerns, almost every single time they redirect the questions to the street trade. That has been their focus. I would bet that the LE in Steve's story is also talking about street work. When it comes to the term 'cleaning up', no one is talking about sex workers and clients they cannot see, they are only talking about traffic and people on the streets.

As Boomer said, just because C36 is now law doesn't mean LE and prosecutors will know what to do with it. There is still a lot of vagueness and personal opinion involved in some parts. According to one lap dances and massage that offers HE are illegal but I haven't read much on how they will deal with strip clubs and parlors. I'm sure there will be much hesitation in these two areas. If your MA is independent and reputable, I expect she has things in place for both your protection and hers. We may be mostly safe in doing what we do but the safety of our clients is also extremely important. There are things you can look for with new MA's/SP's. There should be no mention of ........ or a menu. A disclaimer for time and companionship only, research ads and recos and see if the person is established or completely new. LE will try whatever is easy and cost effective so stings to lure clients and street based arrests, I expect, will be the focus. You have to play smart and do your research now especially with new ladies. Even ladies who have been around for awhile. If they are not adjusting the way they do business to the new law, chances are your privacy and safety are not being taken into consideration. There is going to be a risk now but just like this hobby in general, there are ways to reduce your risk.
