Writing the beginning and ending of a Christmas Letter. My folks have put out a letter every year since 1948. Let me rephrase that. My mother has written a letter every year. The sequence has always been a creative word description of the season as the first paragraph. filler on how everyone is doing and a creative word description on best wishes for next year. Followed with a short original poem. When Mom's dementia took over, I took on the role of author for the beginning, end, and poem. Glad to do it. No problem. Mom passed last summer. Dad decided at the last minute he wanted another letter to go out this year. Sitting there at home, alone, trying to come up with a beginning, and ending, and a poem, the reality, the finality of my mother's death hit me. It was so easy to avoid before. There was so much to do. People to talk to. Places to be. Sitting there trying to write those simple things, I cried like a baby. Got them written, though. Emailed them to my sister who is the editor. She declared them to be beautiful. This one's for you, Mom.

I am in introvert. And the only thing I don't like about this thread is that there seems to be an underlying idea that there is something wrong with being introverted. Has this profession helped? With what? Being an introvert? Like it's a bad thing and I require help to not be introverted? I hope I've completely misunderstood the post. Because there is absolutely nothing wrong with being introverted. I personally love my alone time! It's the best thing in the world. But that doesn't mean I don't like people or never leave the house or am not super ridiculously busy in my life. It just means that instead of waking up and running downstairs to see my family (I'm home for xmas), I am instead writing this, and delaying the chaos because regardless of if I go down now, or in another 30 minutes, we'll have the same interaction and I am not missing anything other than small talk. Also, can you imagine the whole world being extroverts?! Nothing would ever get done because there would be too much chatting going on! Ha. (See how I've generalized extroverts ;-)) Anyhow, introverts don't need help to not be introverted. And introversion does not mean I am shy, or dislike people, or am anti-social and hide under a blanket in the corner, or that I want to live my entire life alone, or can't hold a conversation (though I do admit small talk is painful). Meaningless chatter we (I) find well... meaningless and I often tune out (sorry peeps). I love public speaking, the bigger the crowd the better. Small groups I prefer to hear what other people have to say rather than hear myself talking. Intimate gatherings I enjoy comparing points of view. Introverts are independent and don't require people around us in order to function. That's it.

No recommendations doesn't necessarily mean the lady isn't a reputable companion. One lady I saw asked me specifically not to write any recommendations, she had personal reasons for not wanting them. So my first four encounters (going by memory here) with her I couldn't write a recommendation. My fifth and sixth encounter, I wrote recommendations for her...with her permission. So a lady with no recommendation may not have them because she does not want them Another lady had no recommendations in the cities I saw her (although very well known and respected) But I'm very happy to say she has a recommendation thread started in those cities we have met in after we had our encounters. As for no websites, one lady (she has a website now) when we met didn't have a website, but she has a recommendation thread pages long...all recommendations deserved btw. And I can think off the top of my head two ladies who have websites and/or recommendations and were ladies I could not/would not ever recommend My point is no recommendations and no website don't necessarily mean that lady is someone to avoid My opinion only, the best tool to gauge if a lady is someone I'd like to meet is a board presence on Lyla. And not just advertising. Take part in discussions going on (gawd there are tons of forums here) Even those in a lighter vein, be it jokes, movies, music. That for me has worked best. To be as fortunate as I am. Christmas is approaching and my kids will all be home along with my still new grandson who is already here. I am fortunate to have such an amazing family, a lovely warm farm home that looks like a Christmas postcard, good friends and my health.

Everyone needs to lighten up and take it less seriously! It should be fun and not an ordeal. If you want to bake go ahead, but don't do it because you feel pressured. Same with trees, lights, cards, parties. Make it a time to enjoy each other's company. Visit friends you don't see very often. Only children under about twelve should get presents, and only a very few close friends. Please don't make it about what I want/what I got for Christmas.

I was more or less saying, chances are that LE would never go threw the bother of setting up a web site. Of course, not all ladies will have one or needs one, especially if you are already established as a business women. Obviously having a profile here certainly helps too! But for a new name that no one has seen before, but have a website, then it may provide some comfort if you are wanting to make contact. I get ya tho:)

In addition to my last post and in response to Lester, I don't believe a complaint from a neighbour would change anything. LE still has to get in the building and knock on the door. The MA and gentleman can still just ignore the knocking at the door. The only scenario that could be different is if the neighbour makes specific complaints about criminal activity going on there and LE gets them to swear an affidavit in support of obtaining a search warrant. That being said, most of the Judges I know would not grant the warrant without very specific allegations from the neighbour. Speculation alone would be insufficient. IMO, the neighbour would have to go as far as saying they have seen money exchanged and overheard it was some form of solicitation. BUT, in any event, LE still can't just bust down the door in executing the search warrant, so we're back to the sanctity of private locations. To go further, even if one were charged (which would be a wrongful arrest IMO), the neighbour's credibility could easily be torn to shreds by defence counsel and if the search warrant is quashed, all evidence derived therefrom is inadmissible and charges will be dropped. From speaking with lawyers, law professors and judges, I have been told that the real purpose of the legislation is to focus on what is visible on the streets and go after human trafficking. A noble cause. I hate the thought of human beings forced into the industry. The legislators are not interested in what goes on in the privacy of the nation's bedrooms (or hotel rooms :icon_wink:). IMO, the collateral effect of this will push the industry more in the closet and what happens in private locations will stay private. Additional Comments: In response to Vivero's post yesterday, I'd like to point out that raids have been made at some spas in Ottawa in the past few years, even before this new legislation was on the radar. It does happen. I was fortunate enough not to be there when they occured and have to deal with the stress that would entail. But I was told by a lady I know well what happens. Essentially, LE shows up but does not try to create a panic or be too forceful. They ask politely if they can just come in and check things out because they want to make sure that the conditions are clean and safe, and make sure the girls are ok and no one is being forced to work there against their will. Once LE realized that the MA's are there on their own accord (and it really is their choice), LE left without the threat of any charges. I was told that the gentlemen who were there got a pass and LE did not ask them for ID or interview them. It was all about the safety of the girls. And this goes to the heart of this matter. IMO, private locations are safe from raids because of the process involved to execute a search warrant. Public places are not. However, I believe spa's are a bit safer for the MA's as opposed to being independent. If LE tries to shake down all the spa's, alot of these very same ladies would go indy and this may increase the risks by being one on one with an idiot in private (I do acknowledge that indy's have their own safety practices, but still). The effect of closing down all spas is the exact opposite of what this legislation is intended to be. So I do not expect that the manner in which raids have been conducted in the past will change with this new legislation. And for those places that are doing human trafficking - they have it coming and I believe charges are well deserved, and I would commend LE for a job well done in those cases.

I have just learned that my best friend's mother died. My friend is only in her early thirties. Her father died many years ago and she has no brother or sister. She is single, no children. Although we (friends) are here for her, we know that it will be a very sad and lonely Christmas, New Year and birthday for her - yes, all at the same time! Crap.

Really great article, Nathalie! :) Thank you so much for sharing! (I know this is an old thread, but it seems to have gotten some new life!) Like others, I was also able to relate to the explanations written. A few years ago, I thought it was weird to want to be alone so often, but now I am comfortable with just doing what feels right. I have traced part of this back to growing up as an only child. I had friends, but it's not the same as having other siblings in the house at all times. I figure that I became accustomed to often being alone and having my own privacy, finding ways to entertain myself, and learning to be comfortable with a calm and relaxed atmosphere. I've never felt that I need people around all the time to be happy, and in fact, I feel quite the opposite. And when there is people around, it doesn't have to be constant interaction. When I reflect on being an SP, and consider my personality and lifestyle, it just really all fits together. I do like people, but in a quiet, private setting, and for a short while. I get my necessary physical human contact, my intimate needs are met, I have enough social time with others, yet it's in the perfect sized small doses. And then I get my adequate time to myself :) For me, it is a perfect balance. I wonder if there is also some sort of connection with introverts and animals. It seems logical that the company and presence of an animal would often be preferred by an introvert, as opposed to the company of another person. I feel that way, at least. I adore the companionship of my dog and cats, in a way that another person could never substitute.
