As someone who tours full time, I will say this. Not one city is any better than the rest, they all have their flaws in some way shape or form. Some have high rates of no shows, others WOTS. Some are hard to get to, others are full of hagglers. You have to take the good with the bad. To me that is the great company I am fortunate to enjoy - it makes everything better. Every city has something different to offer and its about finding out if it's good fit for the lady travelling. No amount of advertising or interest will prove if its a profitable place until you have visited on a few occasions. The days of showing up in a city and making fantastic money on a first trip are few and far. Many men have been ripped off or had bad experiences and they are more leery to book. In this biz to travel now a days you need to spend the money to make money. I travel everywhere, as I said I would visit all of Canada before I retire and well Ive almost done that. As for clients, they vary for different reasons and none I wish to publicly repost here (search will bring them up) in this thread, Ive done so in other posts on the no shows and time wasters in a few sections and my views still remain the same in that. Every lady is different and how she conducts her business will vary and that will attract the clientele she chooses to book with. Any city can be a great city, however quite a few places have been wrecked in this business and its very sad. Any city can be a wonderful place to work, its how you choose to market yourself.

I am in agreement with Kate here on this. The difference with being an indy to being part of an agency is vast. As an indy, you definitely have more control over who you see, how you advertise, when you want to work, and how you want to work. You are responsible for your own reputation, not at the mercy of an agency if someone there decides to gain a bad reputation at that agency. Agencies tend to take a large cut of the income, and you have no control over what they say you can make, you are responsible for negotiating after you are with a gentleman what you are going to offer and at what rate your time is then. Can be overbearing, especially if you are new to this. I have done both, been a part of an agency and been independent. I love the freedom of being indy. There is a little more work involved with being indy, but the pros definitely outweigh the cons on it. Have a website, post some pics, state your time for companionship and take it from there. Choose how you want the gentlemen to contact you. I wouldn't go back to an agency now no matter what. But, that is my own opinion. Just remember that you are in control of your own destiny here, and have your rules in place as you move forward. Don't let anyone bully you into doing anything you don't want to do, and just have fun doing this. It can be a lot of fun when you have been here for a while.

Had my staples removed yesterday morning. CLSC nurse said a portion of the incision margins didn't look just right so she used steri-strips to help until it got better. About six in the evening I felt way too much liquid in my lap. On inspection, found a small tear in my incision had opened and was acting as a drain. Not a doctor, but pretty sure this isn't good. On the advice of Info-Sante, went to the ER. Doc on call was impressed with the McGyver-esque arrangement I'd assembled to keep my insides in. Declared it to be okay enough to get me through the night and said to see my doc in the morning. Just got back from seeing him. All is okay. Keep the site dry. Pick up nothing heavier that 5 (five) pounds. Have a nice life. Which I will do. But I gotta say there was a moment in there that scared the bejeebers out of me!!

My approach to just about everything in life is to boil it down to the simplest forms I can and then go from there. So from my perspective, some factors to consider are: MONEY As an indy you keep all your money, but your overhead (ads, phone, etc.) has to be paid by you. Take the time to do a bit of math - factor in reasonable estimates for monthly income, then subtract overhead from your indy side and agency fees from your agency side, and see which option makes you more satisfied. TIME As an indy, you have to invest some time into making ads, posting ads, fielding phone calls, e-mails and text messages. Now, you can control these things if you so choose as well. If you really don't like text messages, just state "no texts" in your ads. Done. But there is still a fair bit of time put into these things. And let's face it: not everyone who contacts us is polite and friendly. You have to decide not only what methods of contact you prefer, but also if this is worthwhile for you after taking into account the difference in monthly income as an indy vs agency. CONTROL As an indy, you are you. Unaffiliated with anyone else. As an agency girl if the agency gets a bad name because of a few bad seeds, your business may also suffer. There is also the hazard of having a manager or drivers who make you uncomfortable or are not professional and pleasant to you. And as an indy, you have the added bonus of being able to have the client's phone number and/or e-mail and/or board handle rather than the agency just giving you a name and a time he'll be coming by. It's pretty easy to see that I am biased towards being an indy, but that's my own love of total autonomy speaking. You should consider those factors, in the order I mentioned them: money, time and control. Really take the time to think it through, every little detail. Write it out if you like to have visuals.

A question asked in another thread prompted me to post this one. Many companions use their sex appeal to attract clients, so is there anything wrong with other professionals doing the same? Read below. I've been in this situation once and I'll never forget it. I had been hired for an 8 month contract at a prominent company in my field of expertise. I was stoked because the job was awesome and better yet, it was going to look amazing on my resume. It was a great opportunity that would open many doors... Let's just say that I never made it to the end of my contract and put in my resignation within 5 months (said I accepted a full-time job elsewhere) because of the behavior of my boss, which I had to work closely with. Since I didn't want to lose my job at the time, therefore my $ income $, and I wanted the experience and the reference, I put up with a lot of BS from him: from him making friendly advances and then saying he was just joking, from him constantly asking me out to late dinners (saying it would be strictly about business), from him always trying to have any kind of physical contact with him (rubbing my shoulders, holding my hand when he was talking to me, asking for a kiss on the cheek before I left, etc.) and the list goes on and on and on... I managed to leave that job with an outstanding reference but the overall experience made me feel cheap and totally disrespected. It felt like I was there for his personal entertainment. As a professional in my field, it was not the experience I was looking for nor should any employee have to deal with this BS, male or female.

I just wanted to clarify she didn't say "all" hobbyists. I will say thank you to Miss Jane for her honesty. It is hard for some to accept or hear of such negativities, but sadly they do exist. Strangely enough I don't actually think that the Canadian public is becoming more "conservative" I kinda thing the public is becoming more open and accepting.. unfortunately acceptance and willingness to actually stand up and defend someone's rights are not the same thing... sure most people in Canada if polled might agree to making prostitution legal but are they passionate enough about the issue to actually push for it to happen.. NO. On the other side though there, is a passionate well organized right wing organization that is willing to put their money and their actions where their mouth is so they while a minority have been very successful in driving the political agenda. Certainly the pro legalization side has been making gains and is more active but let's face it for a lot of Canadians, because of the way this industry has been portrayed in the past they look down on sex workers even when they agree in theory on the right for a person to control their own body. We may have a majority of Canadians who now are not against legalization of prostitution but for the most part it is still a SILENT majority. This is a cultural change which will take time. As I have never worked in the industry I certainly can't have the same perspective as people who have but I can't help but think that the criminalization of this industry by government (either with the current or previous laws) only creates an environment where the "perverts" as you refer to them get to perpetuate their inappropriate behavior. In a legal, regulated and safe work environment these types of behaviors would not be tolerated but when forced to work in the shadows sex workers and for that matter clients have to except that this is just part of the business. As for people participating in this industry against their free will.... I think we all know this happens ... some because they are coerced into the industry by others (pimps, traffickers etc) and others because of financial desperation. I don't think that the simple Legalization of this industry would make this problem just disappear but it would I hope improve the working conditions for many in the industry... hopefully it would over time reduce the social stigma associated with working in the industry and would make it easier for those in the industry against their free will to reach out for help in getting out of the industry. I also would hope that it would allow Law Enforcement to clearly focus their attention on the situations where coercion is at play ( traffickers and pimps). Finally while I am sure there are clients out there looking for a "free flesh market where the best inhumane deal could be made, akin to drive through!" I think education is the key. During the past decades, religion has been the main educational tool society had to educate people about sex (?!?). I think, from an old school perception, having sex is a sin because we are ''suppose'' to make babies, and that's what sex is for. For us, this is all WRONG! Sex is a new way to VENT, to enjoy LIFE, to make EXERCISE, and to get rid of the STRESS of the day. This is a whole new psychology... Don't worry, it will eventually be accepted in society, just as alcool (prohibition) and drugs (medical uses)...

A female anchor on a local TV station asked the weatherman on air about some nasty weather that was supposed to come in over night. She said, "Bob, where's that 8 inches you promised last night?" In Ontario 10 charges under new Criminal Code have been made for pimping and 4 charges have been made in ontario for advertising the sale of sexual services. none of the charges in ontario are "purchase of sexual services" but thats ontario.... Saskatoon has been going after guys and i am not sure how many charges and not sure about other provinces.

My understanding from the thread on this was that we took a hit when the bill became law, but that people - both clients and ladies - are slowly coming back. A short-term hit was probably inevitable; if the current lack of enforcement continues then I'd expect the long-term effect on board participation to be zero. Also: that's just this board. I have no clue about any others.

So interesting what you say Tracey. I was in Sydney NS last week and I use the paper primarily as my main means of advertising . Most folks there have no computers so paper woks best . I know all the classified people at the paper to the degree when someone answers I know exactly to whom I speak and likewise. Ba. Boom . I called to advertise my intention to be in Sydney and as soon as my rep answered I felt terrible sadness in her voice. She apologised profusely and even tried to work my add to make it " tolerable " They told me that any ad that a client know finds offensive they can sue the paper and in CB the only publication could be lost . Everyone felt so bad for me it was a sad time of saying thank you and good bye, However the night I left town several staff called me and took me to dinner and we had an awesome time . So even those bound by " the rules " will always do their best to support us . That feels really good to me and we will all thrive as we have community support!!!
