Over the years I've had 5 facebook accounts and hundreds of email accounts. Currently I have two separate emails and separate Facebook accounts. I never let one know about the other and I do not let the computer save my passwords... for a laugh I friended myself, he he... (I'm my own best friend). Gmail is not the best choice because gmail wants to know everything about you and will set up a google plus account. So, to add to the answers above... I guess the main issue here is keeping your various online identities separate and not cross-pollinating them. On other devices... be careful of being tracked across sites. Many websites place cookies on your machine to track what you do online, mostly so that they can then target ads at you. So, using separate browsers for separate things is a good idea - as an example, I have one browser that I use for FB and nothing else. There are plenty of browsers out there (IE, Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Opera - that should be enough for most people). However at this time I would like to comment on some of the things I have read on some earlier post within this thread. Seems some ppl are being very selfish in their comments and very inconsiderate to the efforts put on by the organizers of these socials, past and present. First I did explain why we moved out of dtown. Many members would not attend social for lack of privacy, being afraid of being seen at a party dtown and intrusion we had on most events and locations. Mistert and I were asked by many at the time to look for a completely private location. We could not find any dtown but we did find the present location which we knew could pose a transportation issue. We mitigated that by arranging for a limo and except for a one time glitch with the driver, feedback we received from many was that they enjoyed the limo ride. In addition I must say that for all social held here in the West, some members posted that they could provide transportation to this location. Now for everyone's knowledge, I will say that twice I did a return trip 30 to 40 kms out of my way to go collect the ticket money from one member who posted here. I drive a Pick up truck so you can all imagine that the cost of gas for those 2 trips was not cheap. Did I ask this person to pay for my gas or did I take money from the social fund??? NO!!! I figured it was my own contribution to the social. And now to read that someone won't come and blames it on transportation cost, and at the same time suggesting its the organizers fault for not having the event dtown??? Well I am sure you can all imagine I am very pissed off right now. This is obviously putting oneself ahead of what is in the best interest of the community. While I am at this, I would like to point out that coming to this location was not an easy task. The place had been closed for a long time therefore required major cleaning. The owner and I spent one full week cleaning this place. To me it was a daily 120 KM return trip so you can all imagine how much money I spent in gas. As for the owner, for those who know Ontario liquor rules, since the place had to operate on a temporary liquor licence, all the liquor for the event had to be bought at LCBO and could not be sold at any other event. In other words the owner got stuck with whatever was left in the bottles. Again I am sure you can all imagine profit from that evening wasn't much. It didn't even fully compensate for location and bartender expenses. But hey again it was contribution to the event and putting that community first. May I also add that we are not the first to give of our own money and effort to organize a social. The reason we are not accepting payment at the door is that in the past an organizer had to pay out of his pocket because some ppl that said they would pay at the door didn't show up. Maybe next time, before posting comments, you should ask yourself: Am I being selfish here or am I making a comment that is in the best interest of the overall community. And certainly just don't say stuff just to justify the fact you don't want to attend. I certainly would like to take this opportunity to Thank again all those who have supported us and those who, at every social, took a few minutes to personally say nice words and show their appreciation for our efforts. Ahhh, the ?tipping? debate! I noticed there was a decided void in SP response so I will take a minute to share my thoughts? From an agency girl perspective, tipping is often a way to generate extra income because after they pay the agency and the driver, they usually end up on the short end of the stick. 10 years ago, I ran for an agency, we collected $260 for an hour, with $110 going to the house, $40-$100 to the driver depending on where the visit was located, which left me maximum of $110 with as little as $10 in my pocket. With a $15 book on fee and mandatory car cell phone fees of $25 per night, I needed 3 full fees per night to make working worthwhile, God forbid I get credit card calls, which somehow always worked out us getting nothing. We were not allowed to refuse a call so we had to find creative ways to ensure we were paid. Tipping for extra service was the only way to keep our heads above water. The nice thing was that we had a shift, we worked, and we went home and had a life. That said, it was unfair to the guest who would end up with less than what he expected because he was not prepared for the extra fees. Independents are in a slightly different boat. We usually have a higher upfront fee, but we also assume ALL the costs incurred, which is far more than many realize. If we charged what we feel we should to get our ROI, the protests would be heard long and loud. Many Indies have a smaller bottom line than an ambitious girl at a well run agency. So when it comes to tips, many things need to be considered. In the south, SP's are tipped much in the same manner as a restaurant. Anyone walking a restaurant wouldn?t consider walking out without leaving a tip if everything was satisfactory. Not to mention the monthly payments on augmentation, lifts, tucks and anything else to keep us up to the exceptionally high standards expected if we want to continue making money in this arena. There are few SP?s who can keep up the daily client service to ensure long term financial viability in this business because of the emotional and physical toll this business extracts which sometimes means extended time offs to get our heads, hearts and bodies back in order. We have no paid holidays, benefits or paid personal days. If there is a crisis that forces us to take time off, we lose money and clients which often means we work regardless of illness, pain or any other of lifes challenges. Each SP has her own reasons for working, but the universal element is that we all are trying to achieve some sort of financial stability. I never expect tips, and I can count on one hand how many I have received since my arrival in Canada because of the nature of the business here. Hate to tell you guys, but Canadian men are not known for their generous nature, they rank a close second to Germans in this realm (I think the outlandishly high taxes inflicted in both countries has something to do with it!). I would never expect a tip from guests that have me on retainer, I see them weekly. But unless you are going to be a bankable commodity in a SP?s life, a tip relative to the quality of service is a sure way to say thank you and have her know you mean it... Catherine
