I am working on this, the security certificate expired

I renewed the certificate hopefully this fixes it.

It's with mixed feelings that I announce that I've retired. I was expecting it to happen within the next month or so, but I landed an amazing job in my field and I start immediately. Thank you all for the good times and support. I owe my success to you. You've made so many many things possible: paying off my student loans, travel, my apartment, weathering crazy vet bills, things I never thought I'd get to do. For most of my adult life I have been involved in charities and community groups mostly related to children's needs and supporting families in the community... I will readily admit that my main motivation for this involvement has tended to be my own children whose capacity to care for others and seek out opportunities help has been inspiring to me... I'm not sure if a Christmas tradition we started as a family played apart in the giving nature of my children but I hope it did. Each year as a family at Christmas time we would seek out families that we could assist during the Christmas season with gifts and food and frankly the basic necessities of life.. in the early years money was tight in our family but we made a point of ensuring that as we did for ourselves at Christmas then we did for others... As our family income grew we were able to do more but the reality is we tended to get more out of the giving then the families receiving... To meet and develop friendships with these families sometimes over several years taught me and I think my children that happiness was not derived from financial abundance... I learned that the stereotypes of people in need are just that stereotypes ... people find themselves in need for many many reasons and it in no way reflects on their character or integrity. The fact is you or I could be in the same situation...I have always felt that it was a blessing for me and my family to be allowed to be part of their lives. My children are older now and they continue to contribute to the community in wonderful ways well beyond anything their old man could ever have thought possible for me personally my charitable en devours have slowed quite a bit over the last few years as I have struggled with personal issues in my own life but our family tradition of giving to others at Christmas has remained a huge part of the Christmas Spirit for me.

Many of us donate to charity all year long whether it be through churches, the United Fund or many of the other commendable organizations that are out there. As we approach the Christmas season thoughts go to others very often and decisions and choices are made. It shouldn't be that its only in December that people contribute that little bit extra here and there but that in reality is very much the way of it. Therefore, if you give where should it be? For me my thinking has changed over the years. For a few years as a Christmas gift I gave goats to families in third world countries through the World Vision organization. Two years ago I decided that there are people in need in Canada so I moved much of my donation to local food banks. Last year I gave a donation to Power as a Christmas gift. This year I am undecided as yet. POWER or PIVOT are choices for their work with sex workers and their involvement in fighting our one year old legislation. I gave a small donation today to a local group that is sponsoring a Syrian refugee family. There are so many great places that require funding. Wherever I decide to make donations I will check beforehand to be assured that the funds are going to the place and purpose that I intend and not primarily to administrative fees. Whether it be because of Christmas, or for any other reason, I encourage everyone to support worthwhile groups that assist those of us who are less fortunate than we may be ourselves.
