One suggestion if you don't want a separate phone is to get a pay as you go Sim card. Put the Sim card in when you want to play, take it out after. Easier to conceal. The flip side of this, if in a relationship, delete your text history. It's an uncomfortable conversation when your wife calls and wants to know how long you've been seeing her man.

That's unfortunate... As a rule of good etiquette, most providers do not send unsolicited texts, e-mails or call unannounced. In this hobby, discretion is paramount. Thankfully your wife didn't see it. I know it can be frustrating, but it could have been a lot worse...

This is one reason why it's good to get a burner phone for illicit activities such as this. I have one, and it's permanently turned off unless I'm actually using it... so this kind of thing simply wouldn't be a problem. Reputable providers also understand that situations like this are a problem, which is why they won't respond to a text if they don't see it within some time limit (an hour or, maybe). Of course, sometimes they then get crap from clients because they didn't respond at all... It's often good to say something like, "Please don't respond if you don't see this before 7", or "Safe to reply until 8:30" or something - that way there's no doubt on either side.

Okay, but you aren't going to change the convention or ever prevent it from being used, with the possible exception of people you've already frightened into remembering. Weird thing happened when I was in the states last June. When I tried to log in to Backpage.ca using my laptop connected to the hotel's WiFi, I was redirected to Backpage.com with no options for Canadian provinces or cities. My understanding was that the hotel is connected to the web through Comcast. If I used my phone on the T-Mobile network, I could get to Backpage.ca no problem. Go figure!
