Not the least bit surprised to read that some are a bit taken aback by the lack of 'forwardness' exhibited by many of the dancers at the 'Mate. On any number of occasions I've had the feeling that this venue combines the atmosphere of an SC and a neighbourhood bar. For those patrons who dislike constant approaches by dancers asking for CR trips, this can be a welcome change from what is often experienced elsewhere. Typically (at Barb's, say) I prefer to catch the attention of a dancer and have her approach my table after giving an indication that her attentions are sought. At the 'Mate, though, the very casual, 'laid-back' atmosphere (especially in the afternoons, but I've noticed this mood, to a lesser extent, at night in the past) can mean that it really is up to the patron to be a bit more forthright than he may be accustomed to being in order to talk to his 'targeted' dancer. This is not to say that I've never been approached at the table by 'Mate dancers - this has certainly occurred. But I have noticed that some of the afternoon 'regulars' are not especially forthcoming and seem to eschew table-hopping, preferring to situate themselves on a stool at the bar, near the CR entrance or by the DJ booth. Shyer patrons may just have to learn to approach the dancer of choice in these circumstances. On my last visit, the dancer I was hoping to speak with was chatting with colleagues at the bar in street clothes, so I was a bit hesistant to approach. When I did get the chance to speak to her, she told me I should have just spoken to her earlier and been more direct. In the past, I've tended to be far more direct in walking up to dancers at the 'Mate than I've been (or needed to be) elsewhere. This is only my sense of things at the 'Mate, but I suspect patrons really should (and may have to) be less hesitant to use the direct approach than they may be used to at other local establishments. Having said all this, there's certainly nothing wrong with taking a direct (but polite) approach anywhere but, as indicated in a post above, some patrons may prefer not to approach dancers directly.

It's before the busy late night but it can work in your favour. Pick out the girl that you like the best and go to her and invite her to join you. Should be able to enjoy her in conversation before going for dances.

Been PM'ing with a MA that is going Indy and she is the midst of moving. I was surprised at that, and often I would offer to massage the woman at the beginning of the session or at the end if time allows. That's good to know. Thanks. I've only been once and had no problems but I was sitting by myself in a corner seat in full view of the stage and bar. It's a fine line. Do you sit and wait and get no attention or be more bold and maybe end up looking like a jerk? I guess it all depends on how warm you want/need your lap to be.

Feet are very sensitive and erogenous :) it is actually quite pleasurable to get a hands or tongue massage there ;) I have to say that the giving on the other side can be conditional. Like OceanMassage said, some people don't take good care of their feet and hygiene is an important factor there.

I've been in a few times since last checking in. I don't think it is necessary to report all of my activity. Friday was a bit of a different day. I am finishing up 2 weeks of vacation and needed a break from all the cleaning, moving, digging, sorting, etc. I'd been very good about taking care of myself the whole time: wearing a back and knee brace when working hard and only going at about half-speed to pace myself so I'd be able to keep up the pace for 2 weeks. Friday, I forgot my brace and put my back out. To recover, I decided to go someplace dark and inviting. That had beer. And pretty girls. Anyway, it was more comfortable to put on a pair of shorts than to strap on my regular kilt, so that was the first time that anyone there had ever seen me wearing a bifurcated garment. I'll admit, the experience was more than slightly different without my regular attire, but I also had a bad back and that put a bit of a damper on my regular flexibility. Eva treated me well. This is too funny. I was going to post the exact same thing. I was there from 5 until about 8pm. One girl approached me the instant I came in but as I hadn't even had a sip of my drink yet I said I was just settling in. It was then probably close to 2 hours before I met daytime Ashley (first time for me). Went to the CR for a few dances, she is very nice and talkative, but I didn't feel any connection with her. I tried being young once. It didn't take. You're doing a pretty good job of shoring up your defenses on this one, but I'm still going to disagree. Relax. Have a beer. Wait your turn. I've been having a great time with a dancer at times and tried to push her back onto the floor to make some more money, and have been told that they'd rather just be talking to me. So, it isn't always about the money as you can see. Keep that in mind. If you don't get to the girl you want on this trip, don't sweat it. Maybe next time. This kind of behaviour normally ends in a fight at a bar, so why would you expect any different in a dance hall? I mean, we're not animals. Right? You can buy me a beer any time, buddy. Probably while we're waiting for a lady to drop by. Actually, lately it's been the other way around. The dancers complain that they can't get to me because I always have someone at my table/on my lap/getting a massage, or I'm in the CR. I have no problem calling someone over that I plan to spend on while in this situation, either. They all know the way it works with me. I'm everybody's confidant/masseur/soft shoulder, but they aren't going to get in the way of someone else making a dollar either. Yes, they have the power to say no to a client. However, they aren't going to say no to another contractor. Also, they know it isn't personal and that they can slip right in next to me when I get back like nothing happened. Reputation matters. Mine has cost me a lot of time, money, and life experience. Being a dick can be part of that if you act like one. In most cases, dancers have long memories. That's my experience, anyway.

Well that's fair enough I guess, WtS. If the dancer is "hopping tables" and not really intent on chatting with a particular someone, I can see how it's a somewhat different scenario. Personally, I'd still be inclined to wait until the dancer is not attempting to engage with another patron.

someguy, you're completely right about that. I started as an SP in Montreal 5 years ago to be able to go to school after a pretty expensive teenage. I started purely because I needed money, like a big part of us I am sure of that. I quickly started to enjoy doing it.
