2 pointsI agree with Daysha. We can charge how we wish. Everyone's bills and expenses are different. Everyone's situation is different. The pandemic has brought in a whole new wave of time wasters and no shows. Raising my rates reduce the time wasters I deal with. Adding in screening and deposits keep myself and my clients safe, and reduced my no shows/last minute cancellations. Having the same med to high volume for covid purposes is super risky whether you are in a hotel or private space. As to pre-covid. From few people in the hotels making it harder to blend in and everyone home in private spaces, making it more noticable for traffic. There is a lot of thought and details that we providers provide our clients to be able to maintain discretion and privacy for all of us. Hotels have jumped from 100ish/night to 150-250/night depending on where. 250/night in Sydney! Rents are doubling if not tripling all over the city. And that doesn't matter if you have a dump of a place to a high end newly built "luxury" space. Prices of houses have soared over 30% in the last 2 years. Inflation rates have double (did you know they change the formula every few years to make inflation not look as high or crazy as it actually is). Our overall dollar value has plummeted. $100 grocery shop is maybe a basket full now vrs almost 2 years ago. Expenses have double for most of us, being hotel or private space. Advertising costs have gone up, as we are no longer just advertising for in person locally but competing for advertising space with online workers too. Tax bills (HST and income tax) + regular expenses are still there too. My rates went up as I am seeing fewer clients to keep myself and my clients safer. They also went up set me apart buisness wise and attract the clientele I am looking for at this point. It also went up so I could make 300ish an hour after taxes. HST, CPP and income taxes are a b*tch. Most people sadly still view this as money to my pocket for me to buy frilly things. They don't take in account all the work mental, physical and emotional that it takes to run this as a buisness, the expenses that are incurred, and time behind the scenes. Building brands, website, online platforms, social media, verifying ourselves so you know us to be real. The list goes on. If this was just putting on lingerie, some lipstick and a dashingly respectful person was at my door waiting with cash in hand, that doesn't wish ill on me, this would be way easier. Maybe rates could be structured differently. But for now, and like any companion should, I will charge what I see fit for myself at this time.

1 pointLOL guys. There is a Tiffany that advertises on Kijiji. She is white and not associated with Sakura in any way. She just rents a room from the same building that Sakura used to operate out of. She does not offer anything other than a massage. I don't believe she is accepting any new clients at the moment so I wouldn't bother trying. Hopefully this puts things to rest.

1 pointI appreciate that my rates are comfortable for many, which is a big part of why I've left them as such since 2012 ❤️ But being totally honest.. My costs of running business have more than doubled since then, and now covid has made this industry a different world than it was even in 2019. Costs to maintain the business and travel have increased a ton, even since 2019 😞 My unpopular opinion.. The raises are well deserved, and more of us should be going for them, especially now, tbh. I know any providers here know what I mean lol We're definitely overdue for a rate increase, especially here in Halifax. It's been almost a decade since the norms changed 😂

1 pointUnderstandably the question arises occasionally and those who are serious know, the price is the price, full stop. The rights of services or refusal fall to the SP who has the power which includes pricing. That is not in question. Thank you Stephanie and Datsha for your input as well insight. Hopefully this will aid answering the OP curiosity around the changes in the required compensation occurring.

1 pointHonestly... I would love to see a swing to NDP. Historically it's the only time we've seen a balance budget in Canada. Jack Layton was so close and passed on too soon. I love what Jagmeet Singh stands for and the hope he brings to all Canadians. I think he would do well for the LBGTQ, sex workers and indigenous communities alike. I'd like to see a balanced budget. Social programs in place and accessible to those who need it. I am okay with paying taxes as long as they are going to where they should be and not being spent on fines and fees for cancelling projects that are almost completed. There is a lot of money that is very wastefully spent. It's honestly a dog chasing its tail game here. People get mad that the PC cut all the spending and funding to programs (to cut spending and pay down the debt), so they vote liberal. Liberal go on a spending spree, basically printing money and sending us into huge debt. The people get mad about that, then vote back in the PC. The Green party is a great social party, but they have had a lot of drama within their party since Elizabeth May stepped down. I think they will lose most of their gains this election from the last. Quebec party, if they ever get enough votes, will see Quebec become its own country very quickly. I think following that lead, we will see the west break off and the Maritimes' figuring out what to do next. Overall, I have to agree that we will see a blue wave through Canada. If it's not majority it'll be a strong minority.

1 pointI hate talking about politics because it doesn't matter who we vote for we will never find the right guy to run the country. I do care about bill C-36 and sex workers of course but will that decide on who I will vote for? Not really. With the pandemic and all the freebies that the liberal party gave out someone has to pay to get out out of debt. I have only stopped for a week and kept working throughout the pandemic. One thing is for sure I will not vote for the blue at this coming election. Red isn't my favorite party either so I'm left with 2 other ones that are not in my top 3.

1 pointAfter the recent defeat of the liberal government here in NS, I do have concerns that a "blue wave" might carry through federally as well. The last federal conservative government saw - the science community gagged and fired if they spoke out - all sitting politicians unable to speak publicly without first being validated by the PM's communication office And the list goes on and on. https://thetyee.ca/Opinion/2015/08/10/Harper-Abuses-of-Power-Final/ I think most can agree that while the liberal government hasn't done a lot of concrete measurable net positive things for both the sex worker community and the LGBTQ++++ community, at least things haven't slid backwards in time. I have fears of the country turning into a lighter friendlier version of the US under Trump should O'Toole win. Lighter and friendlier here means the right wing folks will say please and thank you when they are spouting slurs at any marginalized community they take issue with. I think we'll also see a shift from science to "I feel like" again.
