Yes, The server was down today!
mod replied to mod's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
That was meant as an encouraging comment (not a dis or anything) I appreciate that you are learning something that is not mainstream. You may just end up being on the cutting edge as these "less popular" programing languages often spring up and take over. Right now when you look at the job market for programmers it's all php/java/ajaz/ruby/.net and C programmers for the most part. Pretty hard to make a living right now with alice but that could change if it catches on more. I learned COBOL back in the 80's (Worked for the government doing COBOL conversions off a unix mainframe to a IBM server and oracle DB). I learned turbo pascal, fox pro, basic and a little C as well. C was mainstream and they had started teaching it in university... but most schools were teaching pascal, basic, cobol and foxpro and only cobol and C were really mainstream and COBOL was pretty much at the end of it's life. The only reason I leaned COBOL was to help move the date from the main frame tape drives to the new digital DB as COBOL was on the way out the door along with fortran when I learned them. (Punch cards were before my time in case you are wondering) I learned CGI/perl because of the internet and these days PHP is the most popular language around at least for web based stuff. C#, .net and some other stuff are really mainstream as well and of course java/ajax are really popular as well. Stuff like CF and ASP and even perl are falling away now to make room for the once obscure stuff like Java/ajax, ruby on rails, and even the .net framework stuff from microsoft .. so picking the newer (not currently mainstream stuff) is a positive in my books as it could be tomorrows PHP! It may not make you lots of money (Most of the stuff they teach in schools don't - you need to branch out on your own or land a job willing to pay for specialized training) If it does take off your a head of the game and I would rather be in a small group of specialized programmers and not trying to compete with a million other php programmers all outbidding each other. I never really bothered to learn php (I know just enough to hack this site as it runs on php) but I am not proficient with it... My reason for this is I can pay someone 30.00 per hour to do the work for us who is a php god and I would not work for 30.00 an hour doing programming work so it's just not feasible for me to spend the time to learn it. -

Years ago (early to late 90's) when I started managing servers I would fall into a huge panic myself.... Some of the really huge companies now have so much redundancy it's insane... and they still go offline on occasion. I know a guy who's job is to make sure a bank server stays online at all costs... it has 12 backup drives for every one running drive! What are the chances of even 2 going down let alone 12!! Some of our members are techies like me... sorry for the over the top explanation. Angela asked the question and she has expressed interest in the past on the technical info of things (I beleive it is Angela who is learning to do some computer programing in a obscure language and I would encourage anyone with a interest to do just that). If it makes your hear hurt reading it... it's not for you (Just skip it and replace with Bla Bla Bla....) -
Many people feel this is a much higher risk time to have sex due to the possible transmission of certain blood sti/std's (hiv/Hep B/Syphilis for example) FYI: Sex in the presence of menstrual blood elevates the risk of HIV transmission only a little bit as long as a condom is worn. The risk is not much greater than any other "time of the month". Consuming the blood of another (Vampire fetish or whatever you want to call it) is however a much higher risk activity for the person doing the consuming. I do hope this lady gets tested often. Anyone with multiple... sex partners should be tested regularly but you can not always assume they do. So... this does have an extra "Scare" factor for many as it does increase the risk for the man. It does not increase the risk for women from what I can find with some quick research. ... and yeah it does have that ICK factor for most of us (natural or not).

Obviously asking someone directly about something like this ... you would never be 100% sure if the info was correct as they would obviously deny it if it was true or false but I agree you may find out some additional info by asking and I would invite Cupids to come discuss this openly if they wish as well - I have sent them a PM to see if they wish to comment or send me any info privately here on cerb. As I said I think the info is false and maybe he did own it but in Cupids defense I do not think her reputation should be tarnished from this. The newspapers should have printed "Former Owner" (Done some better research) as this could seriously effect her business having this published pointing a finger at her. Does he own Cachet ladies or is that also owned by someone else? As for the 15million... it is horrible for sure and a shame someone would do this. Saying "AIDS is the shadow under which this industry exists" is a little excessive (in my opinion) as I do think the focus on this site is the agencies involvement (or at least making sure the agency is not wrongly accused). How would you like to purchase a business and 5 years down the road the newspapers announces that the old own did something like this and owns the business you now own? Not saying that he was the previous owner or anything like that? You would be mad to say the least!! Since these agencies are part of our industry we should really try to find the facts before anyone boycotts them for being involved in this as people to tend to beleive things that are printed in the media (ofter irresponsibly) I don't want to underplay the evil of any person who would do such horrible things ... that was not my intention!! I do think the money would have been so much better spent helping people and finding a cure this horrible disease. I just feel the part of the story that our discussion site should focus on was the escort related parts.

Yes, The server was down today!

I did finally figure out what it was ... I edited some server setting to optimize the site a couple weeks ago and one of the settings I beleive was the reason the server would not reboot properly. We run a very unique web server here and not all "normal" settings work - in fact many settings can "break" the server as many systems are tied into each other in some complex ways. For those who know about MySQL/Postgresql you would know about the setting skip-innodb (Popular optimization setting to invoke when running vbul as you don't need innodb). For those who have never tried it on a server running a control panel (cpanel/plesk/etc...) a word of advise... don't use that setting as it breaks the control panel as the control panels apparently need innodb (Not sure why but that seams to be the case) This was done a while ago but I had not done a full server reboot. Everything worked very well (until today)... Today I went to routinely optimize the tables using the "optimize tables" settings built into the vbul software (You have to do that every couple weeks to keep the site running well) and 1/2 way through the optimization the MySQL server crashed and corrupted a table. (Problem on it's own). The server was due for a reboot so instead of just restarting mysql I took the opportunity to reboot the server and it never came back online fully and the control panel locked up and postgresql would not start. It took us HOURS to figure out what went wrong... I noticed MySQL was not loading as well as the postgresql so it dawned on me that I should just remove the optimization settings (back to default settings) and give it a try (Really I was just guessing) and sure enough the server came back online. I systematically entered the optimization settings back in (Most of them one at a time) rebooting each time until it crashed again (Eventually finding my answer). I than went on google and searched for info to find out that others have had the same problem when using skip-innodb with a similar config like we have. Lesson learned (the hard way as always but these are the lessons that you really do learn from) ... Talk about a stressful day! WHEW! -

Ok, I had to add some of the optimization back in as being offline the server is getting hit hard all at once here as everyone is trying to get back in. I am done for now but some of you may still have encountered some database errors while I added the optimization settings back in. Should be all good now so if you notice anything odd please PM me or post here as a reply. Thanks, and sorry for the offline time today! -
TORONTO, May 11 (UPI) -- The Canadian Revenue Agency says it has shut down a fraudulent AIDS charity that took in about $15 million in donations in 2006 and 2007. Not sure yet if this is true. As far as I know Cupids is owned and run by a lady so I don't think they have the story right here (But one never knows anymore). The article claims that the guy behind the dake aids charity owned Cupids and Cachet ladies (I am not sure if these facts are right but it's news that involves a part of our industry and I hope it's not true but still it should be posted here). http://www.upi.com/Top_News/International/2010/05/11/Canada-shuts-down-fake-AIDS-charity/UPI-42871273583991/

I was doing routine maintenance on the server and something bad happened and shut the entire site down for a number of hours while we repaired the server. I thought it was just a coincidence that it died just as I was working on stuff but needless to say... it crashed HARD!... and I am not sure yet what exactly it was. It's back up now but I had to remove all my optimization code so the site may be a little slower today than normal. I will work on fixing that later tonight when the server is slow.

I got my reminder last Monday that it was time for the valued members awards again... just trying to find the time to start it. I hope to get it up in the next week.

Website links are for a reason!
mod replied to Julie By Night's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
This leads to some good questions... Maybe a worthy poll if someone wants to create one for this topic? For instance... 1) How many people just look at the photos and don't really read the details? I know some ladies write PAGES of info (Overwhelming) others don't write enough (This may scare some people away) some use amazing well written text, others use bad language and punctuation (some have language barriers as well) 2) Do you (the guys) feel you need to be reassured? How many people do not trust the text? Have read stuff on ladies profiles only to find out that those services (Like the video service that was mentioned) were actually not on the menu (or worse... they ripped you off)? Maybe this is a big reason for the questions as well... other ladies who are not very honest in the text are wrecking this for everyone as the general population is loosing trust in your ads. 3) Do you call the lady just to hear her voice and to "feel her out" over the phone? 4) Do you call to see if she has a sexy voice?? I remember a lady about 10 years ago who advertised with one of our sites. Her photos were stunning (10/10 easy) and she called our office to make a payment and I answered the phone and was SHOCKED. She was a VERY nice lady but it sounded like she was speaking through a voice box. She emailed us at the end of the month to tell us she was disappointed as she did not get many bookings from the site. I asked her if she got many calls and she said yes but they did not book her (She didn't seam to realize that her voice was turning guys away obviously). A sexy voice would go a LONG way in this business. This topic opens up a lot of spin off discussions. The ladies in this business don't have a outlet for formal training on how to answer phones for this business... and many of the agencies (Remember most of the ladies get into this business by either friends or agencies) are agencies are often not setting a good example of how to run a business properly. Many of these ladies copy the agency and inherit the agencies ethics assuming this is how it's done in this business. Maybe we need someone to produce a DVD for Canadian escorts with some "How to" guides!! - Honestly that may not be a bad idea.... how to place ads, ethics of the business, how to answer the phones, email, texting, voice mail, how to seal the deal, how to schedule your appointments, what to say when... etc... (Probably have some legal issues in certain topics but this could really help some of the new ladies and the ladies who are struggling with different aspects of the business) I have script software from another project I worked on for a sort of clone site like the YAHOO-ANSWERS site (where you ask the question and the community helps answer the questions and you vote on who gave the best answer so that when someone else asks the question the answers show up with the best answer on top). I wonder if something like this be beneficial for our industry? I think it may! -

She is wise?? LOL.. I am actually a guy (The one who moderates the site full time under this user name) ... We do have a lady on staff who does read the site regularly and can moderate the site if I am not available to (many of you who have ads with escorts-canada have spoken to her on the phone over the years) but I am sorry to say... I am a man. -
Website links are for a reason!

NOTE: I was writing this while Shavez posted the above post... Ladies: Bluntly put... A lot of guys call you to see what you voice sounds like, to get a feel for what your personality is like over the phone, to see how professional you conduct yourself, to see if your sweet or rude/cold. etc... they probably read your ad and know the answers they are asking, chances are they just want to "Feel you out" to see if you sound nice!! If your site answers all his questions it may leave very little to ask you over the phone... but the phone call to some of the guys is very important. I am sure most of them DID read your info and site (Sure some don't and those guys are really just idiots and jerks) but many of the guys just want to feel you out a little to see if you sound as sexy as you look to them in the photos. It could also be a first timer who is nervous... MANY reasons exist for this to happen - bait and switch ads on CL is a perfect example... many of the guys are probably SICK of being lied to and they no longer trust the crap info on the ads - they are going to ask everyone questions to see if they slip up too... if you advertise on places where you know they have a lot of BAD advertisers you can expect this MORE!! (CL). The smarter business women know to be kind, polite, flirty, sexy and use this opportunity to "real in the catch" when someone calls them asking questions - Sorry for the phrase but it's true... you got a fish on the hook are you going to let him go easily or reel him in and land the catch!! This is your time to shine and seam the deal! Some companies pay MILLIONS of dollars a year to get consumers to call them and ask questions about products. All the info could be online but companies know that it's a lot easier to sell on the phone or in person (especially with a good sales person on the phone). ... I am not saying you should chat with the guys for hours but a few minutes to land the deal is not a bad thing and unless you are a playboy playmate (or similar) and can get tons of bookings off your photos along you do need to include personality in the mix to land the deal... and it's part of a successful business. If you have the model looks and the personality to boot - look out as your going to be very busy but than again if you don't have the centerfold looks but are a sweetheart and can make the guy feel like a million bucks your going to be very popular with lots of regular clients! If you tell a guy who calls to hear your voice to go to your website instead of talking on the phone with him your pretty much saying "stop wasting my time" (We all know a lot of ladies do this) and I don't blame anyone for hanging up on a person who does this. If I call a company for information and they don't want to answer my questions over the phone... Screw'em! I am going to someone who does offer a more personal service and will take the time to answer my questions. For the ladies who do this and wonder why the other ladies get more appointments and a lot more recommendations it's because your pretty much telling them to go find someone else. I get complaints ALL THE TIME about ladies who are rude to the guys (The guys feel they need to tell me about this all the time in PM's and my reply to them is - good indication to find someone else who is not rude or bitchy to you right?) Some guys (Not all) but some NEED this first phone call to entice them enough to book time with you. I understand you may be busy at the time the phone rings but for heavens sake be nice to the guy, don't answer the phone when you can't talk in quiet and openly, have a sexy intriguing voice message so to add to his fantasy and make sure he comes back... your not selling just sex (especially those who do GFE) your selling a whole package (Sex appeal, lust, eroticism, fantasy, etc) If you do answer the phone and don't have time to answer the questions make sure you leave him wanting more and wanting to call you back. Say I am sorry I would love to talk but I can not right now can you call me back in 20 minutes and I will make some time for you to answer any questions you have... if you sweet and sexy he is going to call back and if you are polite and intriguing on the phone you will probably land the call. It surprises me how some ladies answer their business phone. Sometimes you hear screaming kids, sometimes you here people in the background yelling, some ladies answer the phone sounding like you just woke them up, some sound like they just smoked 50 cigarettes, loud music in the background, and worst of all some ladies (and agencies) are FAR from polite... Still after all these years BLOWS MY MIND but this happens to our staff all the time. On the flip side... You have the ones who answer the phone very sweet, they are super kind and inviting... often bubbly, you know they are genuine good hearted soles, those are the ladies who really stand out and I am sure the ones you have the multiple page recommendations on here for as well. The phone call is just part of the experience for many guys. Does she sound sexy? Does she sound sweet? Is she warm or cold/abrupt? The phone call is a way for the guy to say "I am interested enough to call you now sell me on your services so I will book an appointment with you". Some of you think that your website or photos and text should be enough (maybe it is for some but many need to hear your voice and feel you out over the phone first). You do need to be able to feel out the time wasters and the non-serious guys but that is just part of the business... everyone gets these guys too. Answer 1 or 2 quick questions than take control of the conversation... steer the conversation with something like "How did you find my number?" and "Do you like my photos?" or even to the point "When would you like to come see me I have some time open tomorrow at noon??" (Be in control but be sexy and intriguing) ... by this time they have heard your voice and your personality and if they continue to ask questions that are on the ad where they found you they may be a time waster or maybe they are shy and nervous still. If you rush them, brush them off, send them away to read your info like you don't have time to answer a few simple questions on the phone... they are going to assume a date with you will go pretty much the same way!! EWE!!!! You have to land the deal at the phone call time and know when they are wasting your time so you can move on if need to. It's not easy, it is the art of seduction. If you think they are dragging out the call it's your last chance to land the deal but let them know if they want more they must book some time with you. Something like "I am sorry but I have an appointment right now and have to run, I would love to see you so how bout you give me a call when your ready to come see me??" If you did the job they will set up an appointment right on the spot at that moment or they may call you back in a few days after they spend some nights fantasizing about how wonderful you SOUND! This phone call is your chance to LAND the DEAL and it is why you spend all the time making ads (and paying for ads on high traffic sites and newspapers). The ads can only go so far... that phone call is often what lands the deal so don't blow it by being rude or cold or having screaming kids or mood killing distractions like screaming people or loud music in the background! EWE!! Guys... am I wrong? How much of that initial phone calls lands the deal or not for you? How many of you have been turned off of a lady because of how that phone call went? -
Okay.. even more odd here both kisaku69 and chloeaubertin have used the same computer to access cerb... so what's the deal with that??
-
SO previous photos you used were fake? That was a bad choice and now you have to work twice as hard to fix your reputation. I would suggest you upload some REAL photos here on cerb, apologize for using fake photos and work at making a better reputation for yourself. If you continue to use fake photos you will not be welcome on cerb and I am sure the guys will post this in the bait and switch warnings area.
-
Sorry this thread is out of order - We corrected the server time today and it caused this problem. The first post should be the one from hagglunds.t1 (I can not fix this unfortunately)
-
Thanks, it does appear to be fixed now. Things reported so far have been .. 1) The search feature would not let people search if they did a search within the hour before I changed the date back. If you tried you would have got an error like "Try again in 3600 seconds" (Or less as 3600 seconds is 1 hour and the time was adjusted 1 hour back). 2) The order of some posts may be out of whack a little (Yes, that is my technical term for this). If you posted within that hour before the server time was changed and someone else posted within the hour after - the post they made would get bumped up above your first post. I have no real way to fix this if it has happened... hopefully nothing really odd happened (If you notice something send it to me and I will see what I can do to make it better. So far that is it... good news is everyone seams to have the right date/time stamp now on posts.
-
Whew! It worked... Please let me know if everyone else has the correct time now.
-
The server seams to be having an issue with the time and time zones. I am trying to figure the problem out. If anyone notices the time on the posts are wrong in your time zone please let me know by replying to this thread with the current time you have and the timezone you are in. For instance I am in EST and it is 7:12PM EST so I hope when I submit this post the time stamp says the same.... Crossing my fingers....
-
I don't know how you came to that conclusion? From the sounds of this discussion Jdottawa asked about a asian massage spa and the next day toobhoj tells him they moved back to Toronto so this is obviously not the same person trying to shill with two accounts or an attempt at trying to convince people to go to this place... I just fail to see the logic in assuming this. I must be missing something here...
-
I have to agree with redmachine... you guys are not making the newbies feel very welcome. I think welcoming new posters is much more productive and it's nice to show new members (or previous lurkers turned posters) how nice our community is. Let's try not to turn people away who join the conversations.

How do I enforce a no review policy
mod replied to FineWineDiva's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
They will not be able to do much. They may be able to scare the owner of the website into thinking you could sue him/her and he/she may panic and pull the reviews if he is concerned about being taken to court. When you know someone is serious enough to get a lawyer involved you usually take the quick and easy way to make it all go away as no one likes court or lawyers for that matter. The only ones who seam to win in a court battle these days are the lawyers. You can search the whois info on the domain name (Maybe you will get lucky and it is not a private registration - most are these days) and if so have your lawyer friend draw up a cease and desist letter and send it by registered mail to the address on the whois. Some scary emails threatening legal action from a actual accredited lawyer may do the trick as well but most websites that allow negative reviews know that they are still pretty safe from any legal action and it's pretty hard to track down the owners of many of these sites (often they are not even in the country you would expect them to be in). THink about how HUGE google is and if you look on BLOGGER you will see 10000's of slanderous blogs and google does not get sued or held accountable for any of it... same as craigs list and other sites. Most are US based sites where everyone sues everyone for sport as well... we have slightly different laws here in Canada but not different enough to make that much of a difference when it comes to law suits for this type of thing. You would need to prove that the post is damaging to your business and most sp's don't want there real names and identity being out in the court system with everyone to see as public record. You would need to publicly admit what you do and explain how this impacts your business (many of these sites bank on the fact that most ladies would not want to do this). When ever you have a public legal battle you risk the media picking up the story (and escort stories are fairly popular). It would cost you 1000's to take the case to a higher level court (between lawyer costs, time off work and expenses) plus it's stressful with very little reward because the time it's all over it's been long forgotten about as the courts don't move very fast, everything gets drawn out with appeal after appeal and in the end the lawyers are richer and your nothing would really be accomplished. Chances are the site makes little (or next to no money) and you would have a hard time recovering your costs as even if you win a judgment the guy/girl has to have money to pay you as you can not squeeze water from stone. The courts could order the site to give you the IP address of the person who wrote the post (This technically is the person responsible for this) and you would need to have the IP traced back (it could have been made from a public wifi point, a internet cafe, a hotel, etc... so a chance exists that you would not be able to find out who posted it in the first place) If you did manage to find out you would need to subpoena the ISP (Rogers, Bell, etc...) and have them disclose who the user was. Than you would need to file against that person as well as he/she is the true "Slanderer" and the website is only partially responsible as it allowed the slander to stay on the site (if they did not remove it when you sent them the cease and desist letter). My point... very long drawn out process, unless it's someone with deep pockets your never going to recover any money if you have to take it to court and chances are your going to spend a lot of money and hit a number of road blocks. One SP in Ottawa did manage to take a escort discussion site to small claims court (by the time the court case was even started the site was long gone as it was not a very popular site) but she knew exactly who posted the slanderous comments and that really was who she was after so she did pursue it. She did not need to look up the IP info and was able to confirm it was him when the site owner released his IP. Basically... not really worth the time and effort past the cease and desist notice for anything bigger than small claims court (where you really don't need a lawyer for). -
How do I enforce a no review policy
mod replied to FineWineDiva's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
You can be asked to be placed on the DNR/DND (Do not review/recommend or Discuss) lists. All reputable discussion boards have these. Things you should know... 1) If you ask to be placed on the list we do publish your name on the list 2) Some members will assume you are trying to avoid negative comments 3) You would not be permitted to advertise or contribute on the board where you have asked to be on the DNR list (That would not be fair) 4) Any data posted about you before your request to be on the DNR/DND list may be kept on the sites. Cerb has a no-negative review policy so anything negative about you found on this site would be removed (With or without the DNR/DND list) 5) We (site moderators or owners) of escort discussion boards such as this do not have 100% control over what is posted on the site as most members can post in real time and we do not always read every thread posted. If you ask to be on the DNR/DND list it is up to you (Not us) to watch for posts being made about you. If you find someone has posted something about you after you have asked to be on the DNR list you can flag it and the post would be removed (and the member who posted it would be warned or possibly be removed depending on what was posted). Many long term members will FLAG posts made about people who are on the DNR list. ***If you wish to be placed on the DNR list on cerb you need to PM me. -
I have had to delete two threads in the past 24 hours of people using cerb to vent about things that I like to refer to as AIRING OUT YOUR DIRTY LAUNDRY that is not the purpose of CERB and I must delete these posts and give out warnings for such things. For example... calling out a guy who is stalking you in hopes that he reads your thread about him on cerb (THIS WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED!). If you have a stalker CALL THE POLICE do not bring these problems (or encourage these people) to/on cerb. If it is a cerb member REPORT him/her to me and CALL the police. Posting about someone in public who is obviously unstable and harassing you will only make things worse and could encourage that person to escalate his/her attempts to harass you. If you have a TIFF with someone, keep it off cerb please. For example #2... If you work in a massage spa and as an escort on the site and you want to complain in public that guys are coming to see you in the massage spa and talking about your escorting (or looking for "extra's at the spa")... this is something you need to deal with privately not complaining on cerb about it. The point I am getting at here is cerb is NOT to be used as a place to vent, a place to call out other people or air out your dirty laundry. Some things are better dealt with in private or by the proper authorities.

She is probably just busy, you gave her 8 hours notice I am sure she is fine with it as long as you were polite and honest. In these situations we never hear the FULL story so if this is all accurate you should have no problems booking another appointment. -
I agree with etasman, the problem is not the ladies it's either physical or psychological and you are searching for help in the wrong places. Your actions in the chat room earlier today forced me to remove you from the chat room and suspend you from the site so I have a good idea of what one this is.
