If they ask to be removed I remove them and if the person has not logged in within 3 years the accounts do get purged... but I have no policy in place (at this time) for anything else.

That is true, EC boots off bait and switch (when it can be proven) and any dangerous encounters... but no directory would remove paying advertisers for something like the quality of the service so always do your homework.

ANNOUNCEMENT FOR NOW TILL MARCH 15th It's march again (Well in a few days) and this means I go into the office full time and work shifts to cover for other staff members taking vacations as I don't take time off during March. So what does this mean for cerb you ask? Well.. it means I have less time to check on cerb and it gets a slightly lower priority but I promise to check in at least once per day (even weekends) I need your help however as my check in time will be limited. I must ask that... 1) If you see something that needs my attention please flag it 2) Moderated accounts (Newbies) may take a little longer getting posts approved (Expect some delays and please do not ask me to "approve" your moderated posts / photos / guestbook entries / photo comments / etc... - I will get around to it) I will have little time so I will have less tolerance and will not be able to explain things in great detail so I may come across as rude but as I may be a little blunt when replying (It's not personal I am just busy). WHY? The site manager for LocalEscorts.ca is on vacation for the next two weeks (Well deserved vacation I might add) so I will be running localescorts.ca as well as cerb.ca and will be covering in the art department for escorts-canada as well part time as they are also a little short the next two weeks ... so many 16 hour days for me so please bare with me, cut me a little slack (and help me out by flagging posts I need to attend to).

It seams a lot of people have something to say about this. Why would I kill the thread? I hate stereotypes, I think threads like this make people realize things they did not know before (and help remove the bad stereotypes). If someone is being overly offensive just flag the post and explain why and I will review it.

Escort obtained judgment for libel & defamation from post made on review board
mod replied to mod's topic in In the news
Valerie asked me if I would post it as she is not permitted to post on cerb if she is on the DNR list. I felt this was good information for everyone here as the reason for posting this has really nothing to do with Valerie. The reason is so everyone can see that if a person slanders a SP online (For whatever reason) they can sue you for it. When it goes to court you could end up with your real name published, forced to pay restitution and court costs of the SP. Now, the reason Valerie was on the DNR list here was in large part due to be scared of this guy Mark doing even more damage to her business - she just got so fed up she asked to be on the DNR list on all the sites. This Mark guy was going around to every discussion board he could find - posting bad things about her (and getting the trolls who love this type of stuff to join him). Maybe Valerie will reconsider being on the DNR lists not that this person has been dealt with but I would not blame her if she stayed on them. My hat is off to her for perusing this and taking the guy to court and defending her right to be treated equally in our justice system. The guy obviously thought that since she was an escort the law would not treat her as a equal and that was just not the case! One of the members PM'd me and asked the following.... This is what most people in Canada think and it is NOT TRUE. Being a sex-worker in canada (escort/prostitute/courtesan/etc...) IS LEGAL! Being a client of a sex-worker is also LEGAL... as long as the lady is of legal age (18+) and is not working in a brothel (Common bawdy house) or soliciting you for sex in public she is working legally in Canada as a professional sex worker. For that reason sex workers can take these types of cases to court but if they do the newspapers could print stories about them (Using the ladies REAL names and most of them are afraid of this). Valerie's real name was not published here - it's a big security risk to the ladies to post such things. -
Escort obtained judgment for libel & defamation from post made on review board
mod replied to mod's topic in In the news
Yes, this is his real name. Part of the settlement was that this statement that included his REAL name be posted publicly on any escort related board that she wanted to post it to. She asked me for permission to post it and since Valerie is on the DNR list she is not permitted to have an account on here (That is just the rules we have here). so I posted it to let everyone know. She did say if anyone had questions they could email her. -
Escort obtained judgment for libel & defamation from post made on review board

I don't think the board could be held responsible if they remove it when asked by the person being slandered. The person being slandered may need to have a cease and desist letter drawn up as well and sent to the site owner. A good example of this for instance is google's blogger. It is FULL of slanderous blog posts and they only act when the blogs are flagged and even then it's like pulling teeth to get them to look at it and act on it and it usually takes a cease and desist order issued to them for them to even notice. If they knowingly allowed this to continue they could be held accountable so once a cease and desist is issued they would not take any chances and they would pull the blog I am sure... but chances are if they comply with the cease and desist notice they would be fine and the boards liability would end. Also the courts would need to issue a subpoena to the owner of the board for the release of the IP address of the original poster and his/her information such as email address. Once they got the IP address they would need to Subpoena the ISP to find out who the person was and maybe even Subpoena the email company to release info (Companies such as gmail block the IP and it requires a Subpoena to acquire that info). So it's a lot of work to find out who the slanderous person is. -
New to area! Where works 2 advertise!
mod replied to AmericanGeisha's topic in New to this? Things you should know...
Not sure what city you are touring in? If it's Ottawa (Very popular here on cerb) you can place 1 ad thread per day in the Ottawa announcements area on cerb here for free. Touring across Canada? You will want to be on http://www.escorts-canada.com for sure. -
Escort obtained judgment for libel & defamation from post made on review board
mod replied to mod's topic in In the news
If someone is on the DNR list you should respect their wishes and not discuss them (Fake name or not). If the site allowed this to go on the site could be held responsible. The members who try to circumvent the DNR list should be removed from the site. (They would be removed here on cerb for this). -
Escort obtained judgment for libel & defamation from post made on review board
mod replied to mod's topic in In the news
Valerie did not want to name the board. Her email to me was very specific about this. It would be pretty hard to hold the site accountable for this. Valerie also said -
This has not made the papers (Not sure if it will) but it is news for our industry. It shows again why negative reviews that can be considered slanderous should stay off the sites. This statement (Below) was part of a settlement agreement when Valerie charged a review board and one of the boards members "Mark Charles Robins" (Known as John Q. on the site where this took place) for libel and defamation (Slander). "Fun Valerie has obtained judgment in Toronto, Ontario on January 28, 2010 against Mark Charles Robins ("Mark") of Ontario for libel and defamation for postings he has posed on an "escort review" board. Mark has apologized." It goes to show that if you slander someone on the internet and your actions damage the persons business they can still successfully take you to court!

The only incurable STD besides HIV??? I didn't say that... I should not have to tell you this but you really need to do your homework. You obviously have concerns about heath risks and you obviously have not educated yourself in regards to these risks adequately - this is not wise and it makes me shake my head at you. Herpes and Aids are both incurable and condom use does help ... but they are not the only STD/STI's that are incurable and you are forgetting two that are much worse!! Your forgetting about Hepatitis (Also can kill you) and Genital warts (HPV) that doesn't really kill but has no cure and apparently it can also cause certain cancers from what I have read and well.. the HPV doesn't kill you but Cancer can. Luckily a condom is about 98% safe to protect you from Hep! If your not going to educate yourself internet porn is probably a good place to go back to as many people only use the computer and internet for that purpose... but .... if you want to smarten up you could use the internet for something better than porn and research some STD's / STI's and educate yourself.

They actually assume this number is MUCH higher as many people are carriers and show no symptoms (blisters) and since you can pass this even when no soar is showing (or can be felt) it's really not possible to avoid. You can pass herpes even with a condom (Thinking that CBJ and sex with a condom will stop the spread of herpes is WRONG!) Herpes should be the least of your concerns when it comes to sti/std's

The current ipad/iphone software does not multitask. It runs one app at a time... but it does that one app very well. If you have specific needs for multitasking you either have to have an application made custom to do what you need (or) you may want to hold off for the intel "Moorestown" based tablets that will multitask. Rumor has it that apple held back on some features (web cam, mutlitasking, etc..) for the initial release (To keep the costs down and so they have something to launch in a year with more features to get people to upgrade). In a world with no real competition (Like Apple will have with the Ipad) they can afford to do this.

That is in poor taste E.D. You know how much I hate stereotypes!! I am going to leave the comment for everyone to see who made it but you should reconsider it and ask to have it removed.
-
Really everyone knows how risky this is so you have to ask why someone would offer this to the general public. Might be more to this that we don't know, could be a scam, could be a very desperate person with nothing to loose... etc... who knows the reason but it's clear enough everyone should stay away.

I need to change my spelling of Hobbyist. LOL...
-
It does not appear that anyone has called her and asked her about this (before posting it here?) I suspect it's a pimp scam to get guys to see her. A lot of guys try to get BBFS (Seriously in this day and age who would) but I guess some people have real problems with the condom. These people should not be looking for escorts that offer this however. Very bad idea....

The term "John" - Do you find it offensive?
mod replied to mod's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
"Gentlemen" and "Clients" are much more suitable terms if you were going to choose a polite word that should not offend anyone. I have seen the media use "clients" in the past as a way to describe the gentlemen who use her service. Oddly enough the over in England it seams that they embrace the name "Punter" from what I can tell. I know some people here in North America have tried to make the term John more acceptable as well with websites such as forums with the name "John" in the URL (Not sure if any of them still exist as this could explain why they were no popular) This is all good feedback. I never really thought anyone would be overly offended by the term... It's good to know that some are. I think the term "hobbiest" is kind of an odd choice as well but it's pretty hard to make that word sound bad. ;) -
That is great news... fix one problem and it fixes something else by accident. Perfect!! ;)

I would be upset if they printed the term "Hooker" in the paper as opposed to "escorts" the way the story is online. Please confirm this as the way the story is online I would expect it to be the same in the paper. Hooker is such a negative word. As for "John" see my post here as your not the only one who was offended by this.. and maybe this post can bring some light on that.

The recent news stories about our efforts to raise money for the Red Cross's Haiti earthquake relief fund referred to the men as "Johns" and this is so common that I never really thought much of it (and I am sure Kennith who wrote the story did not either). I did receive a PM however from a member of the site who mentioned that he did not like the term John as he believed it was a term that one should be offended by (A negative term).... I believed it was a term used to identify a person's who's true identity was unknown (such as a John Doe)... so to be sure I took the time tonight to do some research and this is what I found (If anyone is interested... I found it interesting). JOHN (English Given Name meaning "The lord is gracious" - The name John is speculated to derive, via Latin and Greek, from the Hebrew name Yochanan (יוחנן) meaning "Yahweh is gracious" and used in biblical reference to "John the Baptist") Because of the biblical reference "John" was a very common name (Still is today) and because of it's popularity is why the men who see escorts in North America today are known as "Johns". When the ladies asked the guys what his name was in a panic he would usually say "John" or "John Smith" as to not say his real name in order to keep his real identity private. John was such a common place name that it was the logical name to say when giving yourself a fictitious name. It was such a popular name given that the ladies (and the police) adapted it as a nickname for men who see prostitutes as a joke name "Let me guess, his name was John?". The term in reference to men who see prostitutes appears to have started in the early 1900's as the terms being used at the time were not very nice (Popular terms were "Tricks" and "kerb crawlers"). The North american name that is now common place is "John" and the British version is "Punter". Both being much better than "Trick" and especially "kerb crawlers" (I have never head the kerb crawlers term before until today). In north America we refer to a generic or typical male who's identity is unknown as John Q. Public or John Smith and a dead person with no identity as John Doe (All relating back to John being such a common place name). The first known use of the name as a alias was in 1659, in England and The Oxford English Dictionary states that John Doe is "the name given to the fictitious lessee of the plaintiff, in the mixed action of ejectment". So... the use of "John" as a name given to a fictitious person dates back to the 1600's... I find it all very interesting. I don't see any reason for anyone to take offense to the term. I know everyone on cerb likes to be considered Hobbyists (some prefer other terms as well). I am just curious who else is offended by this term and if knowing this info above makes it any less offensive?

Have you tried private browsing in firefox? You may have a buggy version of chrome.. If you have firefox click CTRL+SHIFT+P (or click the private browsing option under "Tools". It seams to work well.
-
Did you use the tools section from the incognito window? I suspect the cookies may be stored differently in this window as it is not suppose to leave evidence of what you were doing on your computer... ideally the window is suppose to remove all traces from your computer of what you were doing in the window TIP: Guy's don't get any ideas at work... Incognito in Chrome (or private browsing like in firefox) does not hide your browsing habbits from the IT guys at work. All the websites you look at show up in the router logs and it would show them exactly where you have been going during work hours! What this does is stop you from having to delete your "History" and other temp browsing files when you are done surfing so your kid (or wife in some of your cases) doesn't look in the history folder and say "What is this cerb.ca website you are always on".
