  1. Not a waste if you aren't comfortable with managing a computers operating system, and the solution he chose did the trick easily.
  2. A different perspective, I was able to walk my daughter down the aisle and have that first waltz at the reception. The downer was that she couldn't have her mother there at such a defining moment in her life. She had died nearly 10 months prior to the event.
  3. There was a program aired this morning on CBC - The Current, which aired the issues surrounding this procedure. I think it was fairly balanced. You can listen to it at the following link. http://www.cbc.ca/thecurrent/popupaudio.html?clipIds=2446133132 It will be interesting to hear what people have to say about it.
  4. Used to be an IE user, but switched to Firefox a number of years ago. As I am now using Win8 I might give Explorer another try.
  5. Congratulations, good on you, you have been a great contributor to the board and community. I'm sure you'll be here to accomplish a many more milestones.
  6. Saw this article in the Globe this morning. I'm not sure it would help me at my age, but who knows. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/health-and-fitness/health-advisor/eight-great-ways-yoga-can-improve-your-sex-life/article17667177/
  7. Great to have such nice company to be storm stayed. You're probably praying for the storm to make a leisurely retreat.
  8. I would suggest you attend the next party they have. As long as you let them know ahead I'm sure you would be welcome.
  9. It's a matter of acceptance, the friend in question probably knows what it takes to pull out of their spiral. One mistake is to show them a judgmental stance. You don't turn your back on them, don't necessarily abandon them by maintaining your distance, but have to have assured them that when they do need help even temporarily, that you are there to assist them.
  10. I think one of the best ways to mitigate the risk is do your research and be selective in who you decide to see. I don't think it's too hard to pick out the ladies who provide a safe and enjoyable time.

    PW manager

I am looking for a good password manager, but one that works across a number of platforms. i.e. Win8, Android, and BB10. I'm presently using The Vault on my Blackberry, and has a few options I like. It's encrypted and backed up to Dropbox, and it destructs after 3 failed attempts. Might work if I could get one I like for Win8 and Android, as might be able to extract the Android version for use on the BB. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  12. Wow, that's a hard one. I am north of 65, and already experiencing some less than positive changes that occur with age. Presently, I am traveling extensively and treating myself to many new experiences, and will probably sell the house and maybe a move to a condo in Toronto. But in the end I don't really believe that getting old is all is cracked up to be.
  13. I think you will find that the big five are quite competitive and have a full menu of services. One may be higher in one area and lower in others so that it evens out in the end. I have used the same bank for forty years, and in that time my needs have evolved. I think it makes a lot of sense to build a relationship with one and maintain it. My first credit card account, several car loans, and mortgage were all with that bank. As far as the mortgage went I was able to change the terms when I needed to, to my advantage with great savings. Last year they were very helpful with some estate planning issues and with investment advice. These are very safe institutions. There are other alternatives, such as the regional banks and credit unions. I think you first have to decide on what you need from them and what they can offer you in the long term. We all go through phases in our lives with changing needs, career, family, maybe purchasing a home, and saving for retirement, so you can shop for each individually or use one for one stop shopping.
  14. There was a rather interesting article in the Globe and Mail this morning which is relevant to the current discussion about prostitution. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/arts/books-and-media/book-reviews/put-out-the-red-light-are-sex-workers-being-heard-in-the-legal-dialogue-over-prostitution/article17502956/
  15. It really doesn't matter if done as a selfie or professional. Pictures are a great tool and should be done periodically, some ladies put up pictures which haven't been refreshed for years and it detracts from their marketing strategy. That said, if doing it as a selfie it's important to take the time to think out and plan the shots so the are truly representative. As an example, pose to highlight your best features, think about the lighting, and consider what will be shown in the background. I've seen ashtrays with buts visible, beer bottles and unkempt beds which detract from what you want to portray. You pay the the pros to take the time to consider these sort of things, but it's quite possible to do quite a good DIY job wit a little thought.
  16. It's take a while, but now that I've learned how to take advantage of the system I wouldn't want to go back. Both my laptop and Surface Pro are touch so that may be why I have taken to it. For the legacy software the classic desktop is just a tap away. The technology will continue to advance, so it only makes to stay current, as illustrated by the announcement that XP support is discontinued.
  17. I think personalty is a far more important trait. Usually, I talk to a lady on the phone before I book, and if I can't establish a rapport at that point I don't usually book. I'm probably going to get in trouble for this. Maybe it's a little extreme, but there's a grain of truth to the Chubby Checker song. To the best of my recollection it goes as follows. " If you want to be happy for the rest of your life, make an ugly woman your wife. " I think he was trying to say there are many more important attributes to consider in enjoying a woman than dynamite looks. Every woman is beautiful in her own way.
  18. I'm quite careful and live within my means, but splurge now and then. I like my toys, and travel quite often. With a number of credit cards, timing isn't an issue, about ten days ago decided to hop a flight for a little R&R in Toronto.
  19. Using you real name only makes sense, as if the use a pseudonym it undermines the intent and effectiveness of the of the petition. If it were one to parliament, not just the minister there are very clear rules about the requirement of using your real name. There was a concern expressed about whether to be worried about change.org or the government, but I would guess it's not so much about the government but a particular political party. I would think that if delivered to the justice minister he has a duty of confidentiality, and this sort of information would not be used for political benefit by targeting individuals who have signed.
  20. Just had a chance to see the season 2 opener that I had recorded on the PVR. It promises to be as exciting as the first, lots of blood and intrigue.
  21. Hi Carrie As already stated you may have a recovery drive, check to see if you have a D drive. If you do, do a help search and I'm sure it'll direct you on how to proceed (probably a command in the control panel). It should reformat and reinstall the C for you. I would also guess you can download the software from Microsoft as long as you have the holographic decal on the bottom of the laptop to certify the OS ownership.
  22. Good luck. Great to someone making the commitment and move on. Although this outlet has served you well, time to leave this life in the rear view mirror.
  23. Getting a text from my daughter to see if I'm available for a Skype session. She'll have the baby on for a visit, and he's now able to sit up and starting to recognize whats going on, on the laptop. It's such a treat watching him develop, just seven months old.
  24. Just checked in to my hotel in TO for four days of R&R. Plan to take in the International Auto Show, the new Aquarium and maybe look into a few condos, and there's no shortage of ice women here.
