As someone who was in an open marriage, it can work. You just have to be careful that your partner does not get jealous. Though I thought my wife was ok with our arrangement, turned out she became quite jealous over time, and was a serious issue at the end. I don't think she was ever comfortable with the situation and I know many other couples who have run in to the same problems over time. Takes two very emotionally strong people to live in an open relationship.
