Does Anyone Own A Bose Wave Music System?
Kubrickfan replied to drlove's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Dont get me wrong, I keep my CDs, and I still have a small tube amp and my Stax headphones, but I gave my brother my good hifi system. I think you can set iTunes to encode at a higher rate, cant you? It will take up more space on your computer and iPod, but memory is cheap. My point is that for this sort of an application, an iPod with normal encoding would probably work fine and be more convenient. Or just go with the Bose or Tivoli to keep it simple... whatever turns your crank. -
Would you date me?

This is one of the most interesting questions I have seen in quite a while on cerb. Its like an onion when you peel it back, there are more and more issues to consider. My answer is yes, but it would have to be for love and mutual interests, not sex per se. I have no idea how I would handle the issue of my partner continuing to have physical relationships with others, but if we are in love, I'd suspect we would find a way. -

This is a decision you have got to make for yourself. If you like the sound of the Bose, buy it. You are probably not going to be doing any critical listening in your bedroom anyways where projecting a soundstage is important or anything like that. Just enjoy the music. A more modern solution would probably include an ipod interface or an Apple airport or other wifi device to plug into your system to play music. That way, you could include your entire collection and not changes CDs once. -
Not happening, in this or any other life. There is a famous video of Cowboy Kenny punching another guy's horse:

Some Great Truths
Kubrickfan replied to roamingguy's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
It is comforting to know that there is at least one genuine conservative in Canada! (smile) Additional Comments: Also, one of my favorite Churchill Quotes: "Many forms of Government have been tried and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time." -

Tivoli is a good idea and definitely worth a listen. I think they were founded by the same guys that started Cambridge Sound Works and go for the same "value proposition" marketing, but more upscale than Combridge Sound Works. I forgotm, but I have a basic Tivoli table radio on my desk at work. Just give them a listen. Peachtree will have a money back guarantee I'm sure, but that's a larger commitment (time and money). Its all about what you are after "sonically." -

Bose equipment can sound pretty nice, but the way they accomplish the sound is through some sonic "tricks" in terms of modifying the sound in ways that drive audiophiles completely nuts. That why you will likely never see their systems promoted very heavily in high end audio publications. If you want to consider something that reflects current high end audio in a compact size, I suggest you consider Peachtree Audio (peachtreeaudio.com). They sell both through higher end audio stores and online, and they also sell packages with speakers as well that are also very highly rated. Not sure if you are an iPod fan, but Peachtree offers one of the least expensive true digital iPod interfaces (in other words, through the bottom of the iPod, not the headphones). -
Best wishes and good luck ... Great posts.

I have no issue as long as its the good stuff: http://www.creedperfumes.us/creed-spring-flower.php Created personally for Audrey Hepburn and wasn't sold to the public until after her death. -
It's a bit of a drive, but they are widely available in Washington DC. (smile)

Recommendations for Washington DC
Kubrickfan replied to emb3750's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Guys, respectfully, be careful ... I think its against the rules here to discuss activities that are illegal, and prostitution is most definitely illegal in Washington (unless you're a politician ... wink). Seriously, you may want to take this private unless the Mod says its OK. -
That's good!!! There are a number of ladies on Cerb that only pop up on occasion, so hopefully that will still work out.

There's some good news and bad news here. The good news is that I think it would be very possible to collect 2% of the incomes of taxpayers voluntarily .... just give them the option to take a tax credit (not just a deduction) for that 2% ... in other words, they can subtract what they owe the goverment in taxes up to 2% of the value on their income. That would be a strong economic incentive to contribute. The problem is that ... at least in the US ... 97% of all income taxes collected are paid by the top 50% of the taxpayers (that figure is right from our Internal Revenue Service), meaning that the other half are not even paying enough taxes on which to create a tax credit. The bad news is definitely getting that money to where it is needed which is really tough to do without a lot of "nation building" and other milltary activities due to the various political factions already in place in those regions as SA points out. I do have an issue in this thread with the assertion that "capitalism isn't working." It works just fine when its left alone, or minimally regulated, and its the engine that makes philanthropy possible. Milton Friedman, a famous economist, said that capitalism isn't perfect, but its a heckuva lot better than the feasible alternatives. And I would agree that there are a heckuva lot of fat kids out there.

Was I wrong to think...

Julia -- Just one point that I dont think has been discussed, but I just want to clarify ... you said you questioned his smaller than normal donation, but did you challenge him on that? Let me be clear that I definitely agree that you should receive your normal rate unless agreed otherwise, but my point is a little subtler ... if this guy doesn't think he did anything wrong, you may want to explain to him that can never be the deal unless arrangements are made up front and that you feel he ripped you off and you are angry about it. My only point is that is this is a good customer except for this one incident, it might be worth trying to salvage that relationship. As only you were there, only you know the answer to this ... just trying to help in case its worth giving this a try. -
To paraphrase Isabella, having little control over many things in your life that directly affect you. Lots of stress inducing anxiety.

Definitely agree this should never happen but the point is to build in another level of protection for yourself. Too close for comfort. At a minimum, you could put a sticker or a piece of tape on your phone so your SO is less likely to pick it up by mistake. Having an inexpensive separate phone that you can hide away and rarely turn on (and erase when you are done) seems like an even better idea. -

RIP Steve Jobs
Kubrickfan replied to Victoria Banks's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
This news really affected me ... not when I heard it (at work), but when I got home that evening and started reading the stories on various websites and on CNN and FOX. But what really got me was going to Apple's website and seeing their very elegant ... and perfect tribute ... I really teared up. Steve Jobs is someone that a lot of people felt they knew through his presentations at Apple events, and those people that are big Apple fans (there aren't really "small" Apple fans) took comfort in that fact that, especially during the last 10 years, they always knew something else special was right around the corner because he firmly was in control at Apple. Now he's not, and that's really sad. But there's still the company, and all of the people that adopted the same corporate DNA, that should keep things going. The one risk ... as best exemplified at Disney after Walt Disney died, is everyone tried to figure out "what would Walt do" instead of just making the best decisions they could, and that almost bankrupted Disney. If Apple employees try to make business decisions based on trying to figure out "what would Steve do," things wont go well. But if these very bright, extremely talented people maintain the same values while pursuing what they think is best, there's no limit to what can happen. Probably the best quote I have heard about the news is a quote from Dr. Seuss (and my fellow Apple fans will understand this one): "Don't be sad because its over ... be happy because it happened!" -
The Best Bond and the Worst Bond
Kubrickfan replied to roamingguy's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
+1 Agreed fully except that I would list Daniel Craig as no. 2 due primarily to the fact that I loved Casino Royale ... it included many of the great elements on the original Bond movies ... gritty and mostly realistic(although I could do without that goofy prototype plane ... should have had something else being blown up). -
Opinion Needed: Was this a genuine "come on"?
Kubrickfan replied to drlove's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
One more thought ... if you wait until your next appointment, you can certainly ask a series of questions about where she is at in her life without "going all in," so to speak, until you have a pretty good idea what her answer would be. If she is not interested, that will be pretty clear in her answers. This all assumes, of course, that there aren't other nosey co-workers nearby to screw things up. -
Why can boys do it but we can't...?
Kubrickfan replied to a topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Bumps ... templates ... etc ... respectfully, I dont see what the problem is here. I really don't think most of the guys focus at all on the recos on the first page, but instead look for a certain lady in the alphabetized list. And the brief conversations that occur within a reco thread are really the last vestige of a true discussion on cerb of a given lady, and I thought the guys a while ago were asked by the mod to avoid messages that were simply a "thanks" - type message. I dont think there are a lor of efforts by the guys trying to bump any given reco. thread on a particular lady. -

Not to digress, but I still remember exactly where I was when I heard the US beat the Soviets in Lake Placid. I suspect it's a similar feeling. -
True ... Sounds like a reasonable story. Just a few years ago, I shook President Bush's hand and sat near (4 seats away) the First Lady and the current governor of one of our larger states. Btw, congrats OD for getting yelled at by the idiot Gore. (smile)
