My understanding of advertising is that if you are advertising in a form of media (newspaper, magazine, internet, etc) this is not a place--it's a type of media and as such falls under freedom of speech.

I love that movie so much, but it makes me sad that James Spader is a rapist. The story on that is that he raped an extra while making Crash--there's an Asian chick he's fucking in the beginning ish of the movie (I think) and anyways, it's supposed to be simulated, but he penetrated her. I don't think charges were ever laid, but my source is credible (they worked on the film and were friends with said rape victim). Also, I guess that implicates Cronenberg as well, since he directed the film and probably would have known what was going on.

Generally, edge play such as breath play is done with a hand signal, rather than a verbal safe word. I much prefer advance booking. As the rest of the ladies have (mostly) all stated, it gives us time to get to know you. Plus, since my school schedule is rather heavy this year, if you book in advance then I can plan my studying/writing/freaking out around that.

My issue with this ruling is the potential for it to be used in other cases, such as date rape, where the victim may have been drugged and absolutely did not consent--now there is a precedent where her rapist can argue that she consented prior. As others have noted, I think the comparison to surgery is a bit off considering one does not expect to wake up in the middle.

I think there is a touch of ethnocentrism at play when people are concerned about the pressure on women in such cultures to wear the hijab/etc. Many studies of women in those cultures see wearing the hijab/burka as liberating, rather than as oppressive. It has largely been a Western assumption that the burka/etc. is oppressive to Muslim women. That's not to deny that some women do feel it is oppressive and that, in largely Western contexts, refusal to wear the burka/hijab/etc., is seen as becoming more Western (ie promiscuous) and can be dangerous to the woman (ie. honour killings). But these are relatively few in number.

The whole point of prison is to limit your freedom--that is the punishment. Nothing else should change, you still have rights as a human being. When you commit a crime you don't surrender those rights, despite what everyone else may think.

I don't support prisons either. I'm all for the abolishment of prisons, but as to what would happen in place of that, I'm not sure. I haven't done that much research into the topic myself.

It's not exactly a similar comparison. Women wearing a hijab/burka aren't hurting anyone else. But trying to abolish/criminalize prostitution because you think it's sinful/disgusting/depraved/etc does have consequences for those who work in the sex industry. Religious freedom has its limits--many countries constitutions have specific provisions re: religious right that include public order, and health. Religious right is subject to the constitutional rights of equality and freedom from discrimination. So if your "religious beliefs" infringe on other's civil liberties or cause harm to someone (ie female circumcision)--religious justification then doesn't hold.

It doesn't matter that he didn't name names, many of us knew who he was referring to. And the issue isn't whether or not Megan replied promptly or that he was impatient, it's that he went to the trouble of posting it publicly. That is what has some folks upset. Just to play devil's advocate, don't you think it's a bit hypocritical to give a murderer the death penalty (thus murdering yourself)? Using death penalty makes us no better than the criminals we want to get rid of. Don't get me wrong, he deserves to be punished to the fullest extent. And after reading this article yesterday about a woman who was raped at knifepoint and her rapist acquitted (despite the fact that she had taped evidence of him admitting he raped her and that it was completely random), there are times when I think vigilante justice might just be the way. But then again, to steal a phrase from one of my favourite graphic novels: who watches the watchmen?

I much prefer to have appointments with clients where there was a few emails back and forth prior. Not only does it allow me to get a feel for what your wants and needs are, but I am able to determine if you're going to be problematic for me. Plus, going into an appointment cold makes it that much more difficult to assess whether you're satisfied, think I talk too much, etc.

I just got my decoy owl (which I have named Mason) at Home Depot. I haven't had a chance to put it up though, so if that fails, I suppose wind socks and chimes will be my next try. Because seriously, if I have to play pigeon abortionist again this year, I will be annoyed (they built a nest and laid eggs and I chucked the eggs off the balcony--I was trying to see if I could hit the dumpsters below, but they are farther away than they look).
