What's everyone reading these days?
VedaSloan replied to VedaSloan's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
In terms of fiction, I love science fiction, particularly dystopias. I also love magic realism (of the kind put forth by Gabriel Garcia Marquez). I also love poetry. My favourite poets include: Dylan Thomas, Walt Whitman, Maya Angelou, Sylvia Plath, e.e. cummings. I also enjoy non-fiction. I recently read Confessions of an Economic Hit-Man by John Perkins, and the Wisdom of Whores by Elizabeth Pisani (which I'd recommend to ANYONE interested in the business of AIDS and sex work in Asia). It's pretty excellent, she argues that the measures needed to control disease are not impossible, just unpopular: "It would mean making fun things (sex, drugs) safe, instead of trying to make safe things (abstinence, monogamy) fun." -

I remember reading part of Moll Flanders in high school. I don't think I really appreciated it as much as I could have, because I had to do a book report type thing and I got lazy and cole's noted it. Ha. -
A question for all you Ladies.

I'm into half hours or hours, but depending on the client, there are a couple of you I could easily spend multiple hours with. In general, I'm happy to go fast or slow, because in the end, it's about you and your pleasure. :) -

Ha, you are much stronger than I. I commend you good sir! -
Obviously I used an extreme example. My point was that people can change their minds and even if they got halfway into it and then for whatever reason change their minds, it should be respected. And I wasn't implying that someone would purposefully get a guy all fired up and then quit (although I'm sure there are people out there who don't think that's a fucked up thing to do OR that they're asking for trouble). I too, was taught not to give the impression that I wanted something I didn't. But if you can't control your urges, you need help, and if you won't control them, you belong in jail. That being said, I think men and women are too caught up in gender roles and the proper way to act, when really they should just treat everyone with respect and be themselves. Everyone talks about women getting the short end of the stick, and we do for the most part. But have you ever thought of all the fucked up things that men have to deal with? Like, if a middle aged woman commented that she thought your child was really cute, you'd thank her and think nothing of it. If a middle aged man said the same thing, you'd assume he was some sort of child molester and even if that wasn't your first thought, you'd still be wary. Until everyone sees each other as equals, as human beings, rather than trying to fit everyone into proscribed gender roles, this kind of thing is still going to continue. The date rape that occurred in Kingston, I'm not familiar with, mainly because in 1990 I was seven and living north of Toronto. But everyone, not just women, needs to take responsibility for sexual outcomes.

Currently, I've got the following on the go: Rent Boys: The World of Male Sex Workers-Michel Dorais -this is a study that was the result of interviews with forty male sex workers in Montreal. Leaves of Grass-Walt Whitman -I've always loved Whitman and when I learned that Leaves of Grass was banned in some states because of the gratuitous sex, well I went out and got my own copy :) Anyone reading anything good? I'm always on the prowl for new reads.

Coming up on two years in October! Here's to another awesome two years!

I sometimes wish the Playgirls were open during the day also, as sometimes it's easier for me to do a day shift than an evening shift, but I make up for it by doing my own thing during the day and working the evening for them. I haven't worked for any other agencies, but OPG treats their girls fabulously. Don't give them any BS and you're golden.

I want a shopping trip to Northern Leather. Damn! Ok, joking aside, Annessa has already covered everything I would say, and I have to agree with her re: discussing the sexual aspect prior. As long as both of you are clear about what is going to happen and there aren't any unexpected surprises, things will go a lot smoother. Have fun! And of course, be sure and let us know how it went :)

Aww, thanks! I like to make folks laugh :) -
I was trying to think of Canadian publishers who would be amenable to a book on sex work, but all I could think of was Cleis Press and Autonomedia, both of which are American publishers, I think. You should start out by publishing articles in local papers, in Ottawa I'd say Capital Xtra and go from there. If you need contributions, I've got tons of stuff that I've written (mostly short stories). As well, I'd be totally down for SP karaoke :)

Poly Party (group sex)
VedaSloan replied to redbeard's topic in Poly Party (group sex)'s Poly Party (group sex) Topics
I'm leaving this group. Sorry guys. If I get the urge for a gangbang, I'll set it up myself. I can't handle the rumours and gossip going on, or the lack of discretion. -

Yeah, who knew that IKEA coffee table could be so versatile ;) -
GOSSIP! Yes, man this pisses me off. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't fucking say it. Venting is one thing, but talking shit about people behind their backs is totally uncalled for. I also don't like when people ask personal questions. I mean, would you ask your lawyer or your doctor how much they make in a year?

Poly Party (group sex)

Effing hell. I constantly forget to check this thing. I wish it got updated like subscribed threads. If there's a social event, not necessarily the actual "action" per se, could someone PM me? Yes, yes, I'm lazy. :) -
None of these are related to driving, mainly because I haven't been the driver of a vehicle in a few years. -people who don't say thank you when someone does something courteous, like open a door, or offer their seat on a crowded bus. -people who won't give up their seat for the elderly. -people who makeout on the bus. -people who practically shout on their cell phones on the bus. -groups who don't reduce to single file to walk past me on the sidewalk. - Baby stroller SVU's. Seriously, do you really need all that space FOR ONE KID? -bad breath. -dirty hands/fingernails. -people who don't introduce themselves on the phone. -when I get books from the library and someone has folded the corner of the page over to mark their place. -guys who chat for half of their appointment and then ask me for a deal because the sex only took 15 minutes. -Quebec bus drivers who refuse to speak to me in English. -cab drivers who argue about the best way to get to my destination. Just go the way I told you. -when my lover hangs up on me during a heated argument over the phone. You can't bail everytime things don't go your way. -condescending clients who think they're smarter than me because they're older. Older does not necessarily make you wiser, and you have no idea what I've experienced in my life already. -rando's who tell me I have nice tits in contexts UNRELATED to sex work. -when fat people talk shit about other people being fat. Hating yourself are we?

Dude, I will give you a years supply of Kleenex, garbage bags, a shiny, metal garbage can, a bottle of grape seed oil AND I'll massage your horns if you get me an air conditioner. Jesus, I am melting. -

I'm sorry for your loss. Take care, Erin -
Personally, I think that whole theory about men not being able to keep it in their pants, who are overcome with lust, is complete and utter BS. If I decide to rub my tits all over your face, and then decide that this isn't a good idea anymore, that's it. Game over. That blue balls shit is a myth designed to get women to give in and to perpetuate the notion that men are helpless slaves to their dicks. Not to mention, people have a right to change their mind, for WHATEVER reason, and it should be respected, hard-on or not.

hate crimes against sex workers......
VedaSloan replied to Susie's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Stella's XXX guide is amazing! You can email them and ask for it and they will send it to you for free if you are a sex worker. It outlines the law and how it affects you, as well as talks about how to work safely, what to look for in an STD check, etc
