The Nordic Model - We May Be Worse Off Than Before...
drlove replied to drlove's topic in Legal discussion, cases & questions
I'm beginning to think it would have been better if Bedford et. al. had adhered to the old adage of leaving well enough alone with respect to Canada's prostitution laws. -
The Nordic Model - We May Be Worse Off Than Before...
drlove replied to drlove's topic in Legal discussion, cases & questions
The entire premise of the Nordic Model is nonsensical. It would be legal for ladies to open and work out of a brothel, but God forbid a client would dare purchase their services - he will be arrested. As others have said, I feel not many clients would want to take the risk of arrest, a criminal record, a fine and/or a mandatory minimum sentence. Typical Conservative logic at its finest... -
The Nordic Model - We May Be Worse Off Than Before...
drlove replied to drlove's topic in Legal discussion, cases & questions
This is a pretty sobering thought. It appears that not everyone on the board is getting this message, as some still believe that having the laws struck down is a good thing - While it is in theory, the Harper government will use it to its advantage by drafting draconian laws that will serve to advance their own conservative agenda. The loss of Cerb would be a huge blow to a lot of people, SPs and hobbyists alike. It looks like we're all going to get screwed, and not in a good way! -

What Should Happen After Bedford
drlove replied to waterrat's topic in Legal discussion, cases & questions
Not quite... the sale of sex will still be legal e.g since the laws were struck down, ladies may now work in a brothel. The Nordic model will criminalize the client as opposed to the SP. The model basically says it's ok to sell but not ok to buy, which is in and of itself ridiculous because it will only serve to maintain the status quo - the industry will be driven underground once more and the relative safety of the ladies working in it will still be compromised. I don't know if this particular law will hold water when examined through the lens of the Supreme Court ruling. -
I've been hearing increasing calls for the Harper government to adopt the Nordic model to take the place of the prostitution laws which were struck down. The most disconcerting part of that is the reference to 'criminalizing the client' - more on that in a bit. However, it does sound a bit paradoxical. That is, brothels will now be legal, but the police will be arresting the clients at the desk as they pay! Seriously though, if it will now be illegal to purchase the services of SPs, I must seriously ponder whether to continue on in this industry. I've always liked the fact that outcalls are legal. Therefore, I'm not breaking any laws. However, I'm sure the prospect of being arrested and charged if the Nordic model were to come into play would lead many hobbyists to second guess their involvement. No doubt, this type of legislation will undoubtedly be at the forefront of any debate the Conservatives have regarding what type of new laws to impose. I read an article the other day written by a law professor who stated that the Conservatives' only agenda will be not if, but how to criminalize prostitution. That said, what are the chances of the government going this route, and what can we do to ensure this does not come to pass?

I had some appointments booked with her, but unfortunately she had to cancel... it was a string of bad luck, it seems. The first night the weather was bad, so she was unable to make it; perfectly understandable - after all, safety comes first! lol. Then, we made a tentative date for Thursday and had another appointment booked for this morning, but she forgot that she had promised to visit a friend. Then, we planned a date for tonight, but she was a bit under the weather. I hope she's feeling better soon because although I am a bit disappointed at the fact our schedules haven't meshed, I'm waiting to hear back from her regarding a re-schedule - keeping my fingers crossed!

The other thing I've been hearing today is talk around invoking the Nordic model, which would have the effect of criminalizing the client. What I don't particularly understand is this: Would not the Nordic model simply put the shoe on the other foot as it were, and still do nothing to resolve issues surrounding the safety of SPs? I don't see how this would be an acceptable solution bearing in mind the court's decision. Secondly, would not making prostitution illegal decrease safety levels for the ladies? In the States, the industry is thriving underground - undoubtedly, it would not simply cease to exist in Canada, either. Furthermore, on what grounds could the government make it illegal? The courts are not in the business of legislating morality, yet this appears to be the framework around which Conservative ideology is based.

Supreme Court strikes down Canada's prostitution laws
drlove replied to Cowboy kenny's topic in In the news
After reading this article, it's the notion that Parliament could pass a law to make prostitution illegal in Canada that worries me... if that were to happen, then we would be worse off than we were before!- 1 reply

I feel there should be respect for all holiday traditions, where people are free to express them without fear that they may offend someone. I agree with Katherine - political correctness has gotten way too out of hand. What's the deal with Christmas trees being termed 'holiday trees' anyway? It's akin to calling the Menorah a holiday candlestick...absolutely ridiculous! It's a Menorah, steeped in tradition, the same way a Christmas tree is. Let's get over ourselves and remember it's not what's said, but the intention behind it. Just something to think about during this season of cheer and goodwill to all...

SP who Contact Clients On their Own

I remember a few years ago, I was seeing a 22 year old Jennifer Aniston look alike on the clock. We developed a good rapport and she would call me from time to time to see if I wanted to "set something up". She was so good looking that I had been seeing her exclusively for about half a year+, and I was single at the time so I didn't have a problem with it. -
To a certain point, I suppose that's true. However, it's still important to have confidence in yourself, as that allows you to be assertive. I consider myself pretty laid back, generally speaking - that not withstanding, I would never allow myself to be walked on, either. Many times, I have been successful in negotiations with banks, companies etc. by simply refusing to take "no" for an answer. In my experience, I have found that you get the respect you demand.

Is Halifax Playmates Still In Business?
drlove replied to drlove's topic in Escort Discussion for Nova Scotia
No, my name and phone number are always visible to the person I call, as I'm well aware of the unwritten "blocked number" rule. In any case, I called from my land line and left several messages, texted as well over the course of about a week- However, no response... not very professional IMHO. I understand that perhaps the lady I'm looking for may no longer be working. However, how much of an effort would it be for Nikki et. al to let me know what the situation is? After all, I feel it is just common courtesy on anyone's part. At least that way, I'd know the score and could move on, instead of continually wasting my time trying to elicit a response. Just my two cents... -
Does she have an ad up? I checked BP but couldn't find it.

Or Allyson... hope she comes back!
