So, has anyone seen her yet? I'm waiting for a positive recommendation before I take the plunge.

MP Bids to Make Buying Sex Illegal in Canada
drlove replied to a topic in Legal discussion, cases & questions
Even if a private member's bill such as this one is pushed through, how would it ever be enforceable? For instance, who's to say that an independent escort isn't just visiting a bonafide friend and hanging out, as opposed to seeing a client? Will LE resort to wiretaps on suspected escort's phone lines?!?! lol. The idea that law enforcement's time and manpower would be wasted on pursuing such matters instead of devoting their resources to fighting "real crime" is a monument to idiocy. -

Incalls and Decriminalization - Halifax
drlove replied to drlove's topic in Escort Discussion for Nova Scotia
It makes me wonder why there aren't even any good outcall agencies here in Halifax, either. Granted we're not as large as major centers like Toronto; however, I'm surprised that we don't even have one or two. I.e. ( something along the lines of Select, or Cupids). -
Incalls and Decriminalization - Halifax

I agree with you Summer. It would be a great thing for the laws to be relaxed, somewhat along the lines of the Australian model, for instance. It would be a win-win situation for everyone involved. I feel that over the last two decades, HRM has adopted an increasingly conservative view where dealing with the adult entertainment industry is concerned. It's a real shame, since I feel the concern is not warranted. I long for the days when Halifax and Dartmouth were much more wide open cities, so to speak. I feel this is why former incall agencies were able to thrive as long as they did. Moreover, their business practices never hurt anyone, and they pretty much kept to themselves. It would be nice to see that again. Hope it works out for you! -
I'm sure she'll get back to you shortly. My guess is that since she's relatively new to the business and to Cerb, she's been overwhelmed with responses to her profile.

Malika, I'm so sorry you had to go through an experience like that. I'm shocked and appalled by this man's reaction. Religious beliefs are very personal, and should be respected. Moreover, I wish people would focus on what's important - i.e. (the kind of person someone is). IMHO, deeds matter more than beliefs. This individual passed judgement without even attempting to get to know you in the least. Whatever happened to "judge not, lest ye be judged?" I say live and let live. -
Hi Kylie, Welcome to Cerb! Is there any chance you might consider visiting Halifax on occasion?

If the court of appeal upholds Judge Himmel's decision and the laws surrounding prostitution are struck down, would it create an impetus for enterprising individuals to fill the void left by prominent brothels of days gone by? I'm thinking of back in the day when places like Park Avenue and Gentlemen's Club were in operation. No doubt the owners of these establishments made a tidy profit. I for one would be ecstatic if an upscale incall/outcall agency were to open e.g (one that treats the ladies with dignity and respect) since it would provide variety and ease of booking appointments. Furthermore, there would be no second guessing if a lady is legit, as is the case with many of the new independents, who sometimes turn out too good to be true. For instance, if one knows a certain agency is reputable, then one may be reasonably assured that the ladies working for them are reputable also, by default. While I love booking appointments with independents, I miss having a tried tested and true agency to call when the mood strikes me. Thoughts?

Good to know... thanks, Mod!

I agree with you, Samantha. Indeed, you hit the conundrum of non-sensical arguments in favour of criminalizing prostitution on the head. It reminds me of a conversation my ex girlfriend and I had one time. We met on a dating site. As a bit of a joke, she made a comment on our first date that it should change its name to "Plenty Of Prostitution" since men will curry a woman's favour by "wining and dining" them in exchange for sex. It's odd that sex can be 'given away for free' so to speak in the context of dating, yet treating it as a commodity in the free market raises a plethora of objections. Moreover, the official explanation points to the guise of protecting women from exploitation, yet IMO the majority of the sentiment stems from antiquated Victorian notions surrounding the moral implications of selling sex. I feel society at large should just get over itself and move on.

Yes, I've noticed that as well.

This is the type of narrow minded drivel that just floors me. The justice system is in place to enforce laws, not morality. IMO, anyone with a bit of common sense can see that the laws surrounding the practice of prostitution in Canada are fundamentally flawed, and should therefore be eradicated. I feel that Bedford et.al are doing a superb job of presenting empirical evidence to support this argument. On the other hand, the religious right is stating that prostitution is immoral. This begs the question "by whose standards?" Morality by nature is subjective, and therefore does not provide a sound footing to base a case like this on. Constitutional rights are precisely that - rights afforded to all Canadians and cannot be denied based on a purely arbitrary distinction.

What The Hell Is Wrong With You?
drlove replied to a topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
I feel discretion is key... the best thing to do is say nothing at all. Yet, if someone feels compelled to say something, please refrain from using names. I.e. something along the lines of "Hi, how are you?" would have been enough to catch the lady's attention without revealing anything else.
