This old dinosaur most definately has USB 1.0, as I bought it as an auction piece that was nuked and paved. I decided to forgo the TV card, as I am just lazy anyways  My TV is in the the other room (13" citizen) I am on the computer more then I sleep or watch tv, so to me it made sense to have upgraded the ram and the monitor.

I might have to look into that one, none of the stores here had it. I do believe Tiger Direct does, they are in Ontario and I would have to get it shipped ( I hate waiting)

I took the tuner card back to London Drugs, didn't even open it. I am going to order a bare bones one from Tiger Direct for less than half the price. All in all this is a decent end user monitor, but for graphics and gaming, I would recommend you spend the max amount you can afford.

Not that it hasn't been mentioned before but...

It's the same over here. You NEED multiple accounts if you are to be seen, which I do. Not going to say how, but it is possible. I feel for ya Maya, we are being over run by the asian mircos like there is no tomorrow:roll: -
Yes, the ACER logo turned itself on:roll: No probem with the colors from my eye's prospectives. As for the headaches, that CRT was brutal (could literally see the flickering) Hopefully this will help. For the 2.2 VS 1.8 I mean the processor speed. The TV card package had a minimum spec of 2.2 GHZ vs the 1.8 that I have Yah, I know some are literally laughing their asses off, but for what I need this computer to do (surf the net, make ads, etc) it just does just fine:lol:

Started off at Walmart, I now have the ACER X223W, 22" widescreen, sold for $199.99, total price I think was $223. It was easy to set up, installed automatically, had no problem with "no signal" message. The only thing that sucks is the stand for the monitor, it's a bit wobvly, and not much you can do to adjust the height. I am not a hardcore gamer like some, nor am I "pro" such as our MOD, or people that need high resolution. This one is 1680x1060. All in all, I would recommend this one. Walmart for the price and return policy, it's 90 days, and beats most competition, no hassels. The CRT is going back to my neighbours, it was just on loan:lol: Popped a 512MB 184pin DDR1 400 chip into the slot, and I have also noticed the difference in start up speed. I now have a total of 1GB RAM. Bought it from a local shop for $39, yes I know the price is a bit high for that amount of RAM, but it was close, and if there ever was a problem, I could go back and talk to the owner. Next thing to instal is a TV tuner card, from Hauppauge. It's model 1201, bought for around $67 from London Drugs, I can watch both Analog, and HDTV on this system. Just one question, it states the min requirement for the TV card is 2.2 and this one is 1.8, would that make much of a difference? Should I NOT instal it?

Good old Walmart came to my rescue today  They have a 90 day return policy, it used to be a year, but that changed quite a while ago. Now all I have to do is unplug, pop off the case, slip it in, hook it up, and I am off to the races, LOL

Just posting out of curiosity... do you have kids? If so how many? ME, I am childless by choice. I don't see it as being fulfilling part of my life. To each their own right? I will always been known as the old lady who lived in a shoe, with cats j/k Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this!

Project that helps Vancouver prostitutes in jeopardy Updated: Sat Mar. 21 2009 12:49:51 The Canadian Press VANCOUVER ? Driving through the night along the seamy streets of Vancouver's notorious Downtown Eastside, three women in the large van dispense coffee, juice and conversation, along with condoms and clean needles, to sex-trade workers. But funding for the Mobile Access Project, which began in 2003 with a converted ambulance, depends on the provincial government and there's been no promise to renew the money when it runs out at the end of April. "So far not so good," says Kate Gibson, executive-director of the WISH Drop-in Centre Society that operates the van in partnership with the Prostitution Alternatives Counselling and Education Society (PACE). The van used to get funding from the federal and provincial governments and the City of Vancouver. But for the last two years it's been solely dependent on the province for the $265,000 needed annually to operate the vehicle and pay staff. Victoria, Calgary and Halifax have similar programs, said Gibson, who has written to Rich Coleman, minister of housing and social development, and John van Dongen, minister of public safety, to push for funding renewal. She got a letter saying only they would look into it. No one from the government would comment on the fate of the funding. The van with three paid staff operates seven nights a week from 10:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. "That's primarily what the money goes to," said Gibson. On a typical night workers will talk to about 50 prostitutes, as many as 1,400 in a month, says Gibson. "They live and work in complete isolation," says Gibson. "They know the van will come. They know that somebody will be there. Somebody can hear them. Somebody can help them." She says the project's success can be gauged by talking to the women. "You measure success by how the women on the street feel about it and how much safer they feel because it's there," Gibson says. Many women make their "bad date reports" -- information about clients who beat them or fail to pay -- with van personnel. "The van is there when they work," says Gibson. "It's not the same as having a conversation with someone way after the fact." The women inside the van also know the game. Some were in the sex-trade. The bad guys know about the van too, says Gibson. "There are all kinds of predators who know it's out there," she says. The Downtown Eastside was the hunting ground of serial Robert Pickton, convicted of murdering six women and facing trial in the deaths of 20 more. Gibson says in a 2006 report compiled by WISH and PACE, 16 per cent of van users recalled a specific incident in which the van's presence prevented them from being sexually assaulted. Fifty-seven per cent said they had reported bad dates to van staff. The number of condoms and needles distributed continues to rise and the van collects more than 1,200 used needles a month. The program began as a pilot project in 2003 in response to an HIV-AIDS epidemic on the Downtown Eastside, along with an alarming number of drug overdose deaths. Funding came through the Vancouver Agreement between the city, province and Ottawa to fund projects aimed at improving the health and safety of the city. Christine Lattey, executive director of Vancouver Agreement, described the van project as "successful and really important." But she said the Vancouver Agreement, which expires in 2010, only co-ordinated pilot projects and the van program "is now an ongoing service and the agreement doesn't have funding for that." Karen Mirsky, a lawyer and sex work community liaison for the Pivot Legal Society that operates in the Downtown Eastside, agrees the van plays a crucial role. Pivot is worried police will crack down on street activity in the Downtown Eastside in an attempt to clean up the neighbourhood before the 2010 Winter Olympics next February. "It is very important that (the van) continue to operate because crackdowns displace sex industry workers who are the most vulnerable as they work at street level," she says. A crackdown risks chasing sex-trade workers to remote areas where they're easier prey for predators, says Mirsky. Women new to the street are also more likely to seek help from the van than go into a government office, she adds. Mirsky says she understands a government facing at least two years of deficits has some hard choices to make. "But to save money on the backs of the most marginalized people in society is abhorrent to me," she says.

Chat room and the people who use it....
A***** A***** replied to antlerman's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
That is pretty much the reason I am there. I like to chat, and get to know people, even though I am on the west coast. I am fond of "bugging" a few, but it's all in good humor. Sometimes, I will go in when I am bored, others, well just to have fun. I don't have a problem with the web cam part, but what would irk me if there are people giving full on sex shows that you would see on those pay to chat sites. The thing is here, we are all adults, and act like it. Same can't be said for other sites, thats for sure:lol: -

Thanks for the info, I was wondering what "exactly" it did. I thought that most guys just popped the pill, got a big woody, and if they where lucky, got it up again. My apologies if this comes off sounding crass
