NDP, Liberals, Greens Commit to Repealing Anti-Sex-Work Law
Cato replied to Sweet Emily J's topic in In the news
This is encouraging news! Let's hope this happens. -
I just read an item in the press that the Cons considered announcing that Harper would resign if re-elected, or not run for yet another term, but they realised it was too late to turn the tide of public opinion. One problem they faced was who would succeed him, as he had a cabinet full of lightweights and ran a one-man show.

Funny to hear the defeated Cons raving about the press as the cause of their misfortunes! Vile man, vile party, vile campaign, vile base.

I think the fears of Liberal tax hikes are exaggerated, except for the wealthiest. HAroer shielded corporations and the wealthy from tax; there is clear evidence on this. Maybe this will change. A couple of things I find interesting: a quick look at the map indicates that the first time the Conservatives get any urban representation is in Saskatchewan. East of there, all the cities are Liberal or NDP, though there may still be one Con in the greater Toronto area. Also, the NDP vote collapse in Toronto is spectacular, showing that people really were voting strategically, and that it worked. The idea was to get rid of Harper. That was a good idea. :) I think the Liberals will need to be pressured to keep their election promises, but it's a start.

Wishing you a very Happy Birthday!

And a new era begins, at least new possibilities. I am not naive about the Liberals and their history, but at least politics will be done in a different style, and that's a start. One journalist observed tonight how Harper's cronies refused to answer questions and eveything was top secret and paranoid. The new pm struck a very different note. That is encouraging. But citizens have to keep up the pressure for a repeal of all the bad Harper legislation...and to reverse the dismantling of public services. Harper leaves a terrible legacy of destruction.

So true. Cowardly, true to form, right to the end!

And some have no redeeming qualities at all...

Today is the day that Canada can start to find its way again.

Anticipating the last day of the Harper regime

Harper's "getting ready" to move out. Reports of frantic shredding at the PMO! :) But it's too soon to celebrate. Get out and vote! Encourage your friends and families to vote!

Harper's boasting about his economic management is all spin and no substance. Canada was the only G8 economy in recession this year. And we only emerged from the 2008 crisis relatively ok because of the regulatory regime that previous Liberal governments had put in place. These clowns would probably have dismantled it if they had had the chance.
