Tax season is just over....thats all I'm saying.

Check out the 'Rules & FAQ' section. It covers this issue there.

Considering how powerful computers are these days virtualbox is a simple means of trying a new OS. It is the only way for me to do my taxes :) VirtualBox on Mac running Win2K for TurboTax. Other instance runs OpenSolaris. I've tried qemu and it doesn't come close.

A backup isn't quite the same as a recovery disk. A recovery disk would help you start the computer while a backup is meant to store applications and setting you currently have installed on your computer. You can then restore the backup and have those settings back. While doing the backup just say everything, when the backup is restored it is smart enough to compare dates and only overwrite older files. Copying a system and later copying it over a newer OS is fraught with complications. If any of the critical files had changed you will be overwriting them with an older version.

Usually a backup, install new OS version and restore should do the trick. Regardless I do agree they should have warned homeusers about this little quirk. Most developers or sysadmins who would try a beta are likely to a) run it within a virtual machine, b) use a separate partition or c) fully willing to reinstall. If you have Norton Antivirus it should come with a backup utility. Will require a DVD/CD burner though. Another option is to backup to an external hard drive.

You could use innuendo, allegories or have her pre-read the recommendation. I know how you feel though as I'm the same way. My time with my special someone is my special time with her. That is why my (limited) recommendations are quite 'tame'. -

I didn't grok 'Stranger in a Strange Land' nor any of the Lazarus Long series either. My current fav quotes: "The best way to predict the future is to invent it" - Alan Kay and Pareto's principle "80% of the benefits come from 20% of the effort" -

Over reaching interpretation of rules leading to hacking charges. Also shows the lack of workplace policy on computer usage. Do you know your company's computer usage policy ? http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2009/05/court-upholds-hacking-conviction-of-man-for-uploading-porn-pics-from-work-computer/

Negotiating Rates???

I would personally be nervous placing a deposit with any business unless someone I know vouches for it. In this case by another known SP. However once this chain on trust is establish the need for a deposit typically goes away! If it doesn't I have no problems putting my money where my intentions are :) Just my 2 cents. -

Yes it is a storage and router all in one, which supports wireless 802.11a/b/g/n. Basically older devices might only be 802.11a or 802.11b but newer systems tend to support multiple variants. It could simple be that your old router does not support the wireless protocol the Brother wireless printer supports. TimeCapsule works for both Mac and PC. It comes with PC drivers on a CD which you will need to install on the PC. It was very much an out-of-the-box experience with respect to the Mac.

Why Do People Not Write Recos?
etasman2000 replied to Cumquat's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
I lurked for several years before writing my first recommendation. It was really the fear of public writing akin to the fear for public speaking. It took an incredibly wonderful SP who showed me what GFE really meant that got me started. I realize a recommendation would be the best lasting gift I could give her as I was just visiting her city. Recommendations don't just benefit other hobbiest: by writing you relive the encounter obtaining an after pleasure, it helps subsequent encounters by informing SPs what you liked (unless you have muted reco like me :-|), and acts as a form of textual foreplay. Not sure how to start ? See an SP :-D Find a reco you like and copy the structure. Fill in your details. Click "Submit". Happy hobbying -

If you also need a wireless router then I would recommend an Apple TimeCapsule. You are paying more, partly for the brand, however it is a simple joy to use it. I have it as a network (wired and wireless) storage device for my Linux, Mac and Windows boxes with only a software install. Granted with Linux it was self serve. You can also extend the storage capacity by adding a USB external harddrive to it. Finally it also allowed me to network my USB printer.

I'm assuming for Windows. PaintShop Pro (by Corel) has screen capture. Its a decent app.
