A Word We Should All Get Rid Of
docottawa replied to Lowdark's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
SecretAdmirer, I'm quite confident that you could not be arrested for calling someone a mean name, with or without the testimony of witnesses. It isn't illegal. People have the right to be mean and offensive, just as you and I have the right to not associate with people who exercise that right. You are correct when you say that people have been fired for being mean, insensitive or outright offensive. It's pretty good policy to get rid of workers who are jerks. They tend to make for a toxic work environment. You've probably also noticed that people who are mean tend to be repulsive to decent people. That's the way social interaction works. We'll have to agree to disagree on your assertion that: I know it as a fact (and don't have to be a lawyer for that) is that the use of such slangs with intention to demean other human beings IS NOT A RIGHT that a Canadian citizen or infact any citizen of the world will have. There are countries in which it is illegal to insult people, yes. In Yemen or Morroco, for example, it is illegal to insult the head of state. In Saudi Arabia it is illegal to insult a whole religion! There are, however, no laws in Canada that expressly forbid insulting somebody. Allowing, of course, that the insults are not lies. -

Secret Admirer, You're correct that there is a limit to free speech. It is illegal to spread lies about a person's actions or character, there is a law against that here in Canada. For example, if I was to send a letter to the editorial page of my local paper claiming that my accountant is a fraud and he isn't...I could be tried in court and found guilty of an offense. It is illegal to incite a person to commit a crime of violence, there is a law against that too. If I were to council my neighbour to assault the postman...again I would end up before a judge. It's also illegal to threaten someone with physical violence. There are safeguards within our legal system to protect against unfettered freedom of speech and justly so. However, I respectfully refute your claim that: "In this case freedom of expression does NOT extend to hateful derogatory and demeaning words and those who use it intentionally to heart (sic) another human being should and will be punished. This is the law in every free and civilized society." So, for example, if you were to come up to me on a sidewalk and say loudly and for all within earshot to hear, that you think me fat, lazy, ugly, pasty, overweight, too skinny, foul of breath, demented, deluded, a Leafs fan, belligerent, stubborn, etc... Well, you may find yourself out of breath and my feelings might likely be hurt but you would absolutely be within your right to do so. That is your right as a Canadian citizen. You can say all sorts of mean things to me. Is it nice? No. Is it mean? Yes. Would it likely expose you to the gathered crowd as a raving bully? Probably. You see, that is another great thing about free speech. If I hear a man call a woman a whore I would more likely think poorly of him then I would of her. I might even exercise my very own right to step in and tell the fellow that he is behaving like an insufferable twit. Most of the women who I know, however, would likely be faster of wit and tongue than I in setting the fool straight. I also imagine that most of the women who are posting their opinions on this subject within this very thread would be strong and smart enough to make the jerk look like more the fool than he already is. Free speech would allow them to do so. Blah, blah, blah...Somebody stop me before I rant some more! -

What a great thread with thoughtful and clear opinions being shared. This is the way that discourse in a free society is meant to run. The fact that we can discuss this issue in the way that we are is directly attributable to the fact that we enjoy freedom of speech on the internet. By limiting our language we limit our freedom to express ourselves. Yes, words can be hurtful. Yes, words can make us angry. Yes, words can shock our sensibilities. However, in a free society we have no right to be protected from having our feelings hurt by words. For example, AngelaofOttawa, you say a number of things in your latest post on this subject. All of them well stated. However when you say that: "Only close friends have the right to call me that, and it's usually in jest." I must disagree. Any person absolutely has the right to call you a "whore". It is one of our rights within this free society to do so. It is the same right that allows you to call that person a "God damned, little dicked, son of a bitch.". You wouldn't want that right taken away, I'm sure. ;) A person who uses language to express vitriol is often exposed as an ass and we're then able to refute that persons ideas, freely and publicly. It's the beauty of language. -

Honestly, what is a word except for a vehicle that we use to describe something. On paper it is just a series of letters. Vocally, it's a structured sound designed to illicit a response or an understanding. Sometimes that response comes in the form of an emotional feeling. If you're the type who is offended by a particular word then what you're really objecting to is the feeling that the word provokes. By censoring, banning, restricting the use of any particular word or phrase you're actually trying to protect yourself from having your feelings hurt, if even in a small or minor way. Well, the human condition is such that we're subject to a myriad of complex feelings throughout our lives. In fact, our feelings are often what shape and define our characters. Trying to ban a particular feeling is like trying to deny who we are. I'm uncomfortable with the whole idea of banning, censoring, blocking words or thoughts of any kind. We all know where censorship leads. -

I'd be surprised if anyone knew what the heck it is but I was a sucker for...Ironed Toast. Yup. Just as it reads. Ironed Toast. White bread pressed down flat with a hot iron until golden brown and just slightly crispy. Slathered with butter, about half a loaf...Utterly unbelievable. My mouth waters as I type. -
I've not much to add to Pete's glowing recommendation except to say that Angel is a fine blend of sexy, sensual, naughty, adventurous, talented (Yes, gentlemen...this girl is VERY talented.), and a whole slew of other great qualities. I had a great time in her company and am looking forward to her next capital visit.

Remember your first Ottawa SC ?

A walk down memory lane. Gatineau, Quebec, 1983...Club le Ranch. My fifteenth birthday. I went with a group of friends, they ranged from 17 to 22 I think. I was petrified. From the greasy doorman with the long beard, vast beer gut and rotten teeth to the dancers who weren't much better (I'm being facetious, here. The doorman wasn't that bad.), I was convinced that someone would figure out that I was only a kid and throw me out on my ear. I couldn't believe that I fooled them all but, of course, I fooled no one. Everyone who cared to look knew I was underage they just didn't care! The lighting was dim, the music was loud, the air was so filled with cigarette smoke that it was like a fog machine was going half tilt. Regardless of the atmosphere...the site of grown naked women gyrating onstage like that...LOL. I was dumbfounded. The night ended prematurely when I was treated to another first. I saw a guy take a beer bottle across the face when a brawl between five or six mill workers broke out. Yup. I remember. Doc. -
Consider the We-Vibe. It's another couples toy that is kinda fun. They actually handed them out to Oscar nominees about three years ago in the gift packages that are given out. It's a Canadian product, too. Doc.

Okay. So I came across this article recently and remembered reading about the poor guy a few months back. Do any members here have similar stories, minor or major, that they would like to share? It might be an opportunity to get it off your chest. http://www.ottawacitizen.com/Ottawa+fraud+victim+devastated+news+lover+dead+trial+hears/4133351/story.html

Antony, of Antony and the Johnsons...Can't recall his last name, Hegarty?...His version of Cohens "If It Be Your Will". I get goosebumps every time I hear it.

What do different people find attractive...always an interesting topic. Okay, here goes. I love watching how a woman moves. How she walks, how she dances, her quirks and mannerisms of movement, the way that she crosses her legs. For example, I can get turned on watching how a woman touches her neck or plays with her hair when she is sipping wine from a glass. Things like that. What is wrong with perfume? I love a woman's scent, it is part of her personal style. Generally, when a woman takes the time to do herself up, the transformation is sexy. The clothes, the make up, the shoes (love the shoes), the personal jewelery...When a woman goes through the effort and she knows that she looks hot...THAT is hot. On a different note, I notice that some people are choosing sarcasm as a turn on...I don't get it. I've always considered sarcasm to be a rather lazy form of humour. That's just me, though. :)

Hi Meg. Having a similar problem, here. When I try to see the history of posts from a certain member a message shows up claiming that this member has no posts, which is not correct. I suspect that we're experiencing a temporary glitch.

Wow...I hope that it's okay if I nominate a local MP for the club. Hailey, a new gal at Paradise Spa has fan-tabulous breasts. Small with perky pointy nipples that point to the sky...aahhhhhhhhhhhhh. -
Overlook Michelle_MA? Please don't concern yourself on that point! I had the pleasure of enjoying a session with her last year. She is a sweetheart, through and through. I don't particularly remember if her touch was deep and therapeutic, though. I think that I may have been a little mesmerized by her body.

This has been an informative exercise. Thanks to Ottawa Adventurer for opening the dialogue. Being quite new to this whole business I wondered about this situation, myself. I now have a better understanding of how the economics of the trade work.

Wow. Definitely a thread that I can sink my teeth into. :) Firstly, when it comes to a steakhouse every patron loves his/her cut done to his/her expectations of "done-ness" (Just made that word up!). Consequently, even the best houses get bad reviews from discriminating palates. All that being said, there are good ones in Ottawa. Prime 360, is one of the spots that gets many rave reviews and almost as many enthusiastic "thumbs downs"...go figure. For my dollar, it's a great spot. the service is professional, the Scotch selection is FANTASTIC!!!, the cuts are interesting and delicious. For example, I love a bone-in strip loin and it's so hard to find in town. However, Prime 360 has it. Also, the damned restaurant is just below the Minto Suites, hands down the best rooms for weekend romps! Now, why more folks haven't mentioned le Baccarat or L' Arome in the Casino is beyond me...two fantastic spots. Juniper on Richmond Road...excellent. They're holding their annual cooking competitions this year, too. Worth checking into. Best burger...Try Vera's in Bells Corners, inside of The Butchery. They're new to Ottawa but have more than twenty spots out west. Delicious and juicy. I find that The Works overcooks their beef, leaving it way too dry. Whalebone...know how to make fish interesting. Very cool atmosphere, too. For a national chain, Moxies is very good. Bekta, 18, Foundations, Social...all worth a visit but, in my opinion, over valued.

Wow...Say the word "PORN" and everybody listens! I'm partial to the stuff from KINK.com There is some exceptionally imaginative stuff going on there. The Upper Floor is very cool, sometimes bordering on performance art as much as porn. There are always amateurs on the Fucking Machines part of the site. Hell, there is someting for everyone there LOL. Additional Comments: Oh yeah. Just in case anyone was curious about a video starring a different Berlin... Voila! http://content.kinkondemand.com/imagedb/4929/v/h/320/hires/4929_7.wmv

I'm pretty new to this board but I've been trying to glean information that would lead me towards MP's who offer excellent deep tissue massage. There have been other threads with many intriguing suggestions but three names consistently seem to pop up; Jude (Jude Masso), Pauline (Michelle's Massage) and Rosa (Body Works). I've experienced Jude and was very impressed with her skill. Not too hard on the eyes, either, but I digress. So I'm wondering if anyone has some insight that he would like to offer about the other two ladies. I've been to Pauline's website and am left with the impression of a quirky/kooky/kinky kind of gal. All qualities which I value so please don't mistakenly think that I'm being critical. I can't, however find much information about Rosa and am curious about her schedule, personality, appearance, etc... Any help would be appreciated.

Not much to add to the discussion but I did want to agree with all of the positive comments. I met with Jessica yesterday and am still smiling from the memory. She is a delightful and fun young lady, very attractive and sensual. The experience was more like meeting a girlfriend for a quickie downtown than it was a massage...very exciting. What an absolute gem.

Of the three adult massages that I've had Jude is easily the best, therapeutically. Of the 70+ sports/deep tissue sessions that I've had with CMT's I would rate her in the top 5%. She has strong hands and excellent technique. Hope this helps.

I enjoyed my first massage with Jude earlier this week and it was a lovely experience. Jude's location is easy to access and the room is private, clean and pleasingly decorated. Jude, herself, is a very attractive young lady with a petite and fit physique. Long hair, beautiful eyes, soft skin...very feminine and somewhat exotic. The massage itself was excellent. She has some training in massage therapy and it is evident in her technique. I entered the room with a sore back and shoulders from too much exercise the week before and I left the room relaxed and loose. Usually after a good massage I expect to remain loose for about a day before the muscles tighten up again but it's been three days now and I'm still feeling the benefits. The massage finished very nicely, too. Not rushed at all. In fact, she took extra time and it felt wonderful. As I mentioned earlier, it was our first meeting and, as such, there was an initial sense of reservation in the air but after a little while conversation opened up to reveal an interesting and intriguing personality. That was another nice surprise. All in all, I would highly recommend Jude. In fact, I hope to see her again soon.
