Because I have a very solid group of returning clients that keeps me busy, I haven't done a lot of focused advertising lately. I noticed that traffic to my website jumped significantly on Saturday and on Monday. Maybe it's a coincidence that this happened when CL stopped posting SP ads, but I don't think there's any way to be sure. A number of my regulars will be out of town in January and February. After Mod reported the massive increase in traffic here, at escorts-canada.com and localescorts.ca, I renewed my ads and have already seen a jump in hits to my website today. Advertising here in the past was a very wise and lucrative thing for me and I'm sure it will be again. Have other companions noticed increased traffic since CL shut down the erotic ads?

I don't like the term, either. I prefer to describe myself as curvy, curvaceous, voluptuous, busty, etc. I wear a size 16 or 18, so I'm not a really large woman, though I've never been a spinner! I do use BBW in some of my ads and as a keyword on my website because it seems to mean something to clients. Truth in advertising means a lot!

I've had this happen to me three times when I lived in Ontario and twice since I moved to Vancouver. In every case, the bank either notified me before I found out or they suspended my debit card so that no one, including me, could use it. The suspensions were a pain, but the message that came up on the debit card machine was something like, "Card Error. Please Contact Your Bank," so it was clear that there was a problem. The banks immediately refunded the lost money. In both Vancouver and Ontario, the bank said that mine was one of a number of accounts that had been compromised a short time after the account card holder had used a debit card at a particular gas station or grocery store. I found the bank to be courteous and helpful.

I avoid texting. I prefer e-mail contact and then voice. I've only recently started advertising my cell number, though I've been providing it in e-mail for a long time. My phone isn't always turned on but my voice message encourages callers to contact me via my website. I usually ignore texts that come in asking if I'm available unless the person identifies himself first and we've already met. I don't take last minute appointments.

A SD is looking for an ongoing relationship and may also expect services that many pros don't offer, such as sex without condoms. I think that quite a few SDs are hoping to find someone who is less experienced (and therefore less savvy) than they are and who might be easier to control or intimidate. The thing I don't understand is how these guys can be certain that they're not hearing from professional providers. I get a lot of queries from women who have recently become paid companions or who are thinking about doing it. Quite a few of them have told me that they reply to those ads from guys who are looking for a non-pro. Unless he has her on call 24/7, he's going to be scheduling time with her just as everyone else does.

Lots of us started out advertising on CL, and I think that many of us learned very quickly what a time-waster that was. Much better in terms of time and profit to advertise here and on other paid sites. Trafficking is a big issue but I think that the controversy over it shows not simply that an unsupervised site will be a major promotion point for trafficking, but even more that the laws related to trafficking and underage services are not enforced. It's easier for politicians and activists to target CL but what they really need to be doing is ensuring that the traffickers and child abusers are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I don't think that this is the thin edge of the wedge, however. Legitimate, paid-for advertising for erotic services has been deemed to be legal and not contrary to the public interest in Canada for almost 30 years in Canada.

I've actually found that one of the best ways to use the female condom is to have the man put it on his penis and then I hold the larger-ringed end against me as he enters me. The condom slides into place easily and stays there. Meanwhile, he doesn't feel the thing. I've used them this way for anal sex, too, and find that it works very nicely. I've slowly been encouraging clients to use the female condom instead of a regular one for penetrative sex. Most of my clients are in their 50s and 60s and I notice that they often have erectile problems with regular condoms, but not with the female ones, perhaps because there's nothing that fits tightly around them that also dulls sensation. It's true that they're more expensive than other condoms, but then I'm a bit more expensive than many other companions. ;-)

Berlin, thank you for starting this conversation with your clear, sensitive and accurate opening post! I rarely offer one-hour appointments, and never to new clients. Instead, I give a bit of a discount for a first-time meeting so that we can spend a relaxed hour and a half, or more, together. A drink, a glass of wine or a cup of tea and some relaxed conversation smooth the way to a very good erotic encounter. Engage me, turn me on, help me reach high arousal and you're welcome to pound away as much as you like. I'll be with you, and I can be as demanding, responsive and energetic as you can, if not more! I have a client who arranged for a private dinner, cooked by a "personal chef" who came to my house, cooked the meal, served it, and cleaned up, leaving me to do nothing but settle back, enjoy the wine, the meal and dessert(s) while staying at home.

I don't ask for references. My intuition has never let me down. No prospective client will get an appointment with me today, or even this week. We're going to exchange some e-mail, maybe have a couple of phone conversations, first. I might suggest we have lunch instead of a private meeting (my lunch rate is lower than my private rate) so that we can check each other out and make sure that we do want to have private time together. I also ask new clients to pay a deposit to confirm their first meeting. I accept credit cards, and they know that they can cancel a credit card transaction if they need to. My cancellation policy is clearly outlined on my website (and was worded by my lawyer). That has virtually eliminated time-wasters and no-shows. The main thing I want to say, however, is this: You're concerned for your privacy. Fair enough. We're concerned for our safety. No matter who you are, or how important you are--or think you are--the one who is taking the most risks is the companion. Always.

Coming late into this discussion, I very much appreciate what everyone has already said. I am sick and tired of the anti-sex "feminists" who presume to make definitions and state so-called norms and standards about women and about sex workers without consulting women like us, who are in the business by choice. Their attitudes about us are not only paternalistic, but they're also dehumanizing. I refuse to accept the notion that I am somehow deficient or ignorant or mind-controlled because I am a prostitute. That's utter nonsense. I also refuse to accept the claim that normal, healthy women do not enjoy having sex with strangers or having multiple partners. I'm normal and very healthy and I'm having a very good time. Safely, too! I think it's fair to say that we're all concerned about women who work on the streets. Prostitution isn't their biggest problem, however. Most of them have addictions and/or live in dire poverty. Those are the problems that need to be solved; outlawing the purchase of sex isn't going to do anything about them. I'm sure we're all concerned about trafficking that includes or involves sex work. No one should have to be a sex worker unless they want to, period. We have laws against human trafficking, but they are not adequately enforced. We also have laws against sexual activity with people under 18 years of age. These, too, may not be adequately enforced. Why not? That's the question. We have these laws, but the people who should be protected by them are not necessarily receiving the protection they're entitled to. That's a big problem, and more laws won't change the attitudes of the police and judiciary system. Finally, most studies say that at least 85% of sex workers in Canada work indoors, in private. We're in every city, in every neighbourhood, quiet, discrete and orderly. I'm in a very up-scale Vancouver neighbourhood. My rates are fairly high. Those two things, all by themselves, contribute enormously to my safety. If it does become illegal to pay for sex in Canada, I don't think my business will be affected: I'm so under the radar as it is, now. Most people have no idea that women my age work very successfully as paid companions. Now, if we could just get our clients who are politicians, police officers, lawyers, judges and court staff on side.... LOL

I don't have to deal with heavy winters anymore, but when I lived in Ontario we were under snow for weeks on end every year. Two essential things for the car's trunk were a collapsible shovel (Canadian Tire has them) and a bag of non-clumping kitty litter. Both are very helpful if you get stuck!

Definitely! Raiding becomes another form of grinding, after awhile, only you have to deal with more players who have no clue what they're doing. But Cataclysm... oh, that'll be impossible to pass up! It may be my consolation when we head into the inevitable Christmas slump!

I appreciate booking ahead of time. I'm rarely available on a last-minute basis and only sometimes on a same-day basis. I have many clients who live out of town but travel to Vancouver on business frequently. One of those has booked time with me through next spring. Another comes to the city three times a year and usually spends three evenings with me, so he books ahead of time, too. I have a few regular clients who like to see me once a month, and they book ahead to be sure that they have the day and time they prefer. Sometimes, I can go weeks without seeing anyone new, and at others, I may be seeing only new clients. I generally know what my week is going to be like by Friday afternoon, and I don't bother booking appointments on Mondays because 90% of them cancel. New clients who make an appointment 24-48 hours ahead are much appreciated!

I keep an assortment of condoms on hand, but my favourites are One and Kimono. I prefer the Lifestyles Large to the Trojan XL, but only because they taste better. I have two clients who are very large--one of them is unusually large--and I use female condoms with them. As for lube, I love the JO lube--no sugar, no perfume, no flavour at all and it does its job nicely. For me, the critical thing is that it can't contain any sugar. I also use only condoms and lube that I supply. That way, I know for sure how old it is, how it's been stored and that it hasn't been tampered with.
