Someone mentioned Durham County, but it was a mini series, so the whole thing wrapped up (bad guy found) in that 2 seasons. It was a good premise.. I really like the series that wrap up. I thought Once Upon a Time in Wonderland was doing that, but it has come back, so nope. :) Continuum is back for season 3 this week, and Once Upon a Time (the original) as well. Trying to connect my mother to OUT since the Wicked Witch of OZ is on this season and Wizard of Oz is a big favourite of hers.

There was a study done not that long ago about street kids in NYC. They said the overwhelming majority of the kids wanted to be there, were not coerced into providing sex work, there were no pimps (again for the majority). I believe i posted a link to the study somewhere, it indicated something like 10% might have been 'managed'. These were the under 18s. A lot of these kids know what their options are. They may not be making great choices, but they are still making that choice. For the girl in the story, she chose not to remain in homes where she was living. She didn't want to live by the rules. This is not unusual with some teens, who feel like they are old enough to make their own decisions so in the end, this is what they decide. And like most teens, they make the bad choice and then they get stuck because they can't admit that the parents were right.

http://www.thestar.com/opinion/commentary/2014/03/18/look_to_new_zealand_to_change_prostitution_laws.html Canadian policy-makers overhauling our prostitution laws should look to New Zealand, which considers sex work as a human and labour rights issue. by: Emily van der Meulen Elya M. Durisin Victoria Love Published on Tue Mar 18 2014
Regarding Justice Minister Peter MacKayâ??s response to our article on the Starâ??s oped page of March 11 entitled â??Sex workers should have a say on prostitution lawsâ?: Peter MacKayâ??s objection to the premise of our article exposes a key disjuncture in what constitutes meaningful consultation with sex workers when creating new prostitution laws. We contend that adequate consultation is one where sex workersâ?? distinct knowledge and expertise is valued and prioritized above that of individuals and interest groups that do not have this particular experience. Sex workers have lived and worked under the current legislative system and are best positioned to understand both the causes of harms and their solutions. They are also directly impacted by prostitution laws and therefore have a different and vital stake in the future of such laws. MacKay writes that he has been exploring all options to address the harms that flow from prostitution to communities and beyond, and that doing nothing is not an option. We disagree: doing nothing certainly is an option, especially given that many of the prostitution laws not contested in Bedford still exist in the Criminal Code. There also remain numerous other criminal laws that can be used to deal with exploitative conditions in the sex industry, such as those against physical or sexual violence, extortion or assault. By not introducing new criminal sanctions that prohibit consensual adult activities, other areas of policy can develop. Labour and health policies, for example, will uphold the spirit of Bedford and will prioritize sex workersâ?? rights and safety. If MacKay is insistent that something must be done, then he and other policy makers should look to New Zealandâ??s 2003 Prostitution Reform Act, which considers sex work as a human and labour rights issue. A New Zealand government review five years after implementation concluded that decriminalization has had a beneficial effect on sex workersâ?? safety as they are empowered to refuse particular clients and practices. Sex workers are also more likely to call police in instances of violence and there has not been an increase in underage prostitution, despite concerns that there would be. Importantly, the New Zealand review also concluded that there was evidence to suggest that criminalizing sex workerâ?? clientss does not effectively deter the demand for purchasing sexual services and can instead increase sex workersâ?? vulnerability. Big Brother Canada 2

re: sabrina and Kenny, it seemed like the editing of BB showed that Kenny felt like Sabrina had a crush on him, nothing mentioned about it being Andrew Now on the updates, Sabrina sounds like she's a rabbit foot away from staking Allison for having lured Andrew away from her. Andrew had to do some sharp middle of the night talking to get himself out of the line of fire too. Then the girls alliance is flawed because the other girls think that Sarah and Sabrina are part of it all, but they are in the First Five. Then they themselves are planning to keep Paul, and vote out Heather simply because she didn't fit into their clique. Not to mention all of them also want Allison out. So it is hard to imagine how they think they have the numbers if they get rid of 2 girls. And know that the guys are also going to try to pick them off as well? So they want to pick off girls first, as do the guys, it reduces their numbers. Meantime Paul and Adel are sticking around another day, and who knows who will win next HOH lol. They also really think Jon is part of a guy group. They could have put up a Jon/Kenny/Andrew kind of combo, and replaced anyone who won the Veto with the 3rd option. The most important thing is that it would have taken out 2 votes who won't vote Ika's way and she should know they won't. She would have had both Adel and Paul, and also Heather. How she did it is she lost 2 votes that would have been for her, and she already knows Adel won't vote out Paul, so what was the point of those two nominees. Even Neda was shaking her head going wtf after the nominations lol -
New study of the internet's effect on the sex industry
fortunateone replied to sasquatch's topic in In the news
It is supposedly a comprehensive list of the online ads, and yet it is missing quite a few that i know sps/clients use in the US. It kind of shows where LE is looking for ads, rather than where clients/sps are placing/looking lol. other than the obvious bp. The pricing has little to do with any kind of 'trend'. it's more, you are paying for time and companionship only, for this amount of time, it costs this many $$. you aren't getting any acts for that, just time. Here is a handy link to the rather long study http://www.urban.org/UploadedPDF/413047-Underground-Commercial-Sex-Economy.pdf -

Ika won the HOH, and to me is going to completely waste it by not putting up Andrew and Kenny as nominees. there is also no way to backdoor either of them, simply because if you put up one of them now, the other nominee is just going to be picked off. A and K have a majority share of the votes, the only way to ensure one of them went is if both of them were up on the block, and then that neither won Veto (which is never a sure thing), and/or that the 3rd possibility is part of their team and losing that 3rd person would affect their group numbers. As it is, i feel Ika is wasting it on non-threats, in order to curry favour, but is now repeating every other BB HOH mistake by not getting out the real problems when they have a chance. I see Kenny and Andrew at the end with one of their other Final 5, but i definitely see the majority of the women picked off one by one, until they are all gone. -
Opening up an online 'consultation' questionnaire is hardly the same thing as sitting down with sp organizations from across the country. It isn't like they are hard to find, i am sure they have all been contacting his and other mps offices for a long time now. He's taken the time to mention he is willing to meet with other specific organizations, LE, but not sex workers who would be affected by any sort of legislation? And wants to justify that by saying, oh, well they can always submit a questionnaire, we did our part to open up discussiion with them, uh huh.

But what about the Soap?
fortunateone replied to emiafish's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
I have a liquid soap that is just 'soap' scent, nothing overpowering, and then always have something fresher like Dial, Zest or Irish Spring. I like those scents, and it is often helpful on showers prior to a session starting for someone who needs a good cleanup :) -
There are a number of Canadian publishers, but you might want to consider US based ones. The best thing to do is to go into the non fiction section of any bookstore and note the names of the publishers of similar style books. Also compare how big or small the books are. Some publishers do the huge ones - 800 pages for example (more costly) others do something along the line of 150 pages. You need to have a real well worked out plan for the book, and include up to three written chapters. But first you would make a list of possible publishers that you think might be interested, and look for their submission guidelines. Some may not take anything over the transom, others will. Some may only deal via an agent, so you would be first looking for one of those, not a publisher. An agent if interested will work with you on editing and planning the content of the book to make it presentable to an editor. If it is a good topic, they will have multiple publishers interested in buying it. It is unlikely your book will make a lot of money, if you choose a Canadian slant and publisher. But it doesn't mean that it won't be the best choice for your topic.

Question For Clients Who Browse Ads on Backpage
fortunateone replied to Sweet Emily J's topic in Ottawa Discussion - Escorts
My ads, like others who've been doing this for a while, started off in newspapers, usually weeklies. If our clients assumed the only time the ad was 'good' was the day the issue came out that would indeed be a LOT of money wasted, and one very busy day lol. i found that internet advertising, particularly sites like CL ES at the time, and now bp, have 'trained' clients that the only 'good' ad is one that is not just posted that day, but preferable posted within the last couple of hours. They may 'take a chance' and called someone with an ad over 4 hours old, but that seemed really rare, and possibly only if they used some kind of search filter. Basically an ad on page 2 was a dead ad, and in Vancouver and other busy cities, your ad was on page 2 within a couple of hours. I did however learn to put schedule in the online ads, so please take the time not only to look at 'today's ads, but all the ads, and you will possibly see the same kind of information. CL has very strict posting limits, and flagging and it may be possible a lady's ad gets deleted without her knowing, or she cannot post another one. With bp, the expense is so high, that she simply has to make the choice to not post daily, or utilize the less expensive sponser ad option. In fact i think there are some cases in some cities where it should be a huge red flag to see someone posting many times a day, or even once a day, when frequent ad posting is not necessary. It kind of starts to look spammy, if not a bit desperate, neither of which is attractive. So the sp may have decided to limit her ad posting, on a less busy site, in order to appear sane as opposed to needy lol -

you can also go to jokersupdates for ongoing posts about what is going on via the live feeds :) Todays news, the Veto competition doesn't show a winner, but it does show Paul (one of the nominees) making it thru one round then giving up entirely, making it clear he won't be the winner of the veto. The First Five alliance consists of Andrew (current HOH), Kenny (beard guy), Sabrina (curvy chick), Sarah (older woman) and Arlie (I think it is Arlie) Ika (skinny one) seems to think there is a girls alliance that includes Sabrina and Sarah, but not Heather (blonde). No one seems to like Heather or Adel, tho it is unclear to me why not. They don't seem any better or worse than anyone else. :) Jon and Neda (opposite sides of the country I think) seem to be in a flirtmance. There are no solid showmances at this time. Rachelle looks and sounds a lot like Jillian. The show's episodes seem to rarely feature her at all, making me think they noticed it too lol and in a bad way they don't want to be seen as having a type? I find I am liking Andrew. I didn't expect to, as I thought he was most likely a jackass, but it turns out he seems like a really solid nice guy. There appears to be a solid divide between Adel, Paul and Kyle (beefy working out guy) and the entire rest of the house. :) Meaning it is very likely that since Paul isn't winning the Veto, just about anyone else will win it and possibly use it, and Paul will be on the block with either Adel or Kyle. Sabrina seems to have a big hatemance with Adel, even tho the only After Dark show I've seen is him reassuring her that she is a great person and he really likes her, so I don't know what she is up to as they seemed to be pretty tight in week one after that. -
I would suggest if anyone has an opportunity to post a comment in any news article, especially like this one, BEFORE they get closed for comments 3 hours after it goes up, to put a link to the Say No to the Nordic model petition. When you see results like the one in the above article poll, it may mean more exposure to the types of people who would sign such a petition. thousands of viewers, in other words, :)

I agree. I find myself constantly repeating the same stuff: Street worker stats do not reflect the stats of all sex workers. And the poor street workers, apparently everyone thinks they are riddled with stds because I suppose it is assumed they don't use condoms. Which is equally annoying, because there is absolutely no reason to believe that streetworkers don't have access to freely distributed condoms and/or know about stds themselves already. The way these people talk is disgusting to me.

Question For Clients Who Browse Ads on Backpage
fortunateone replied to Sweet Emily J's topic in Ottawa Discussion - Escorts
i seem to get MORE traffic on days I do not bump my ad, I find that in Vancouver, it isn't necessary to have an ad every day, and with the huge $$ increase this year, I won't do it more than twice a week, if that. The sponser ad keeps my ad on page one, and i get the top bump, for 10 bucks usually, compared to 7 bucks one time bump that drops to pg 2 by day 3. It isn't worth spending that kind of $$ for daily posts. So the ad is being seen, i assume the sponser ad is being seen because the index ad itself can be 4 days old before i do another one. -

There are some typical mistakes. Paul put up a guy who is strong, and likely to win physical competitions. He indeed won the POV, meaning he was going to come after Paul (which he did by putting him up for eviction when he as expected won HOH as well. The time to get that kind of "Emmet' type out is the first week, after that it is doubtful you'll get him out because everyone is going to want to keep a bad guy in there as a target away from them. Rachelle is a complete twin of Jillian, looks like, sounds like, same accent lol. Bad casting. -
i don't mind getting contacted. If i don't want the emails filling up my inbox, i know i can just filter them into a folder to look at some other time, or just delete without reading based on the title.

Petition re: the Nordic Model
fortunateone replied to fortunateone's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
I feel that some folks think that signing the petition is admitting that they partake in it, in some way, whether client or sp. I don't see that at all. There are a variety of different folks signing up, and as citizens i don't think it is a big issue to sign under your real name to say that. I don't think the govt dept that will receive the copy of the petition are planning to scrutinize all the signatures and investigate them as to what they do for work, or in their spare time, considering both things are legal. ;) @RG, I wish the poster of the petition was accessible too. I would like to ask why are so many signatures needed on this petition, given there is another pro-nordic model petition that only needed 3000 or less signatures. I wonder how/why the minimums are determined :) Also it would be nice to thank the person, and/or find out a bit about them. :) Maybe someone with twitter will post a link to this petitition on #notyourrescueproject for more exposure :) -

When you are filling out your information, below it gives you the choice to have your name show up (you can see other names show up below that box) or not show up by clicking it off or on. -
I liked this story. I had it all set up ready ready to paste on cerb lol. It does set a good precedent, but I also wonder can this be used against women who 'take away consent' from men who are told the woman is on birth control and/or pinpricks condoms to get pregnant.

I like the side show. I have always felt that they needed to spend more time after evictions and in analysis. imo, on each and every BB, the finale show has always been extremely disappointing because they just announce the winner and blip, that's the end of it. They should be spending a lot more time in interview about it all, right at the end of the show, to make it more complete. I agree that Anick was probably annoying. Everyone spent a week with her, we only spent one episode so we don't know what kind of deals were going on. She was definitely a wasted eviction when they could have or should have evicted someone much more athletic or friendly -

i've seen Emily Rushton, and Meghan Mcleod sign up in their sp names. I don't think it is a problem. The form requires an address and email address, and I don't think it will accept multiple submissions from the same email, address, and/or IPs, but otherwise I don't see any reason you can't just say R. Guy for your first and last names lol -
