I am not that impressed by the stats. It takes 10 sweeps to pick up just over 100 men. It seems like such a huge waste of time, when the charges have nothing to do with the legal prostitution, and only to do with how and where they were trying to connect with the sp. Had the sp been indoors and the guys made phone calls, none of those 117 would have seen a police officer. Because even tho the majority of the socalled crimes (incalls) go on indoors, they still focus on the street work. If they make street work illegal, completely, that would probably satisfy the police, and the NIMBY types, because everything else about the sex trade is indoors, out of sight out of mind. If the nordic model even went into place, they aren't going to be any more able to enforce it than they do now, unless they continue to focus only on street work. The only reason they like it is because they can continue to use it against the sps who work on the streets by making it impossible for them to make money, by driving away their clients. That is usually the goal of anything anti sex work. And that worked so well since the 80's when they brought in the public solicitation laws, which imo are pretty much the same thing as nordic. The fact that Ottawa stopped charging the sps doing street work is irrelevant to me. And it still astonishes me that this guy, who pretends to know what he's talking about, doesn't know the government already did an indepth study of prostitution in Canada, and after studying it, they did NOT decide to bring in the Nordic model of laws. http://www.parl.gc.ca/HousePublications/Publication.aspx?DocId=2599932&Language=E&Mode=1&Parl=39&Ses=1

Regulating as a public health issue might be the key to satisfying both sides of the issue: https://www.healthed.govt.nz/resource/health-and-safety-information-sex-workers I was looking to see if NZ had mandatory testing, and that is one of the links that came up. It does not appear that they have mandatory testing, but what they do have is a requirement that both sps and clients MUST practise safef sex practises.

Can't read it without signing up? I like the theme of the article, just can't seem to close the big sign up pop up.

Also interesting to me is the assumption there that sex workers may not qualify to be 'middle class', the main focus of attention for Trudeau's Liberals? I am often amazed at the general public's inability to consider that sex workers, in many fields have reasonably decent incomes. The government did recognize that something might happen, long before it got to the SCC stage. They have just chosen not to do anything with the information collected, along with it's conclusions. You never seem to get the idea that any one of them has actually read it. http://www.parl.gc.ca/HousePublications/Publication.aspx?DocId=2599932&Language=E&Mode=1&Parl=39&Ses=1&File=267 . There are many pages, and quotes from some of the people speaking, but the above link is to the spot near the end, The Subcommittees Unanimous Recommendations.

I think we all forgot the obvious one, (mostly because it isn't true) that all sps got into this biz when they were 14. Or, should I say, were 'forced' into this biz by a smooth talking turned violent pimp who turns her out to clients who know she's 14, because all clients prefer to see sps who are 14 and forced, rather than older like 25, and willing. Because, really there are NOT any sps who are willing, but if they say they are willing, it is only because they are delusional (or privileged, meaning, not typical). Could be a delusional privileged sp, i suppose, who is, by the definition of privileged, educated and white, of course. Because there can NOT be anyone who isn't white who could possibly grow up in this heavily biased society of ours and be considered to be making a conscious choice to do sex work, because if you aren't white (aka privileged) you must be marginalized, and therefore, unable to make decisions that are good for you, due to your long history of violence and racism against you by the white (privileged) women who pretend they can speak for you, because, of course, no woman of any other race is capable of speaking for themselves, on this issue. Unless of course they are former sps, who are now abolitionists. :) Anyways, back to the delusional privileged sp, how is it that she came to be educated and white, given she started (I means was forced) to start at the tender age of 14, at which time she was also 'trafficked' (although how she came to be trafficked when she is working in her home town, also puzzling)....... Can't quite wrap my head around how all that 'must' be true, because someone says that is the reality of all sex workers, except of course, when it isn't. As you can see, I have spent FAR too much time this month on rabble.ca btw :)

This is a good recap of the tips provided, and please note first and most important on this list (because this list was written by a woman, other articles i found were not), is 1. MAKE SURE YOUR PARTNER WANTS YOUR FINGER IN HER VAGINA (caps mine lol). I would emphasize this is more important that hygiene and technique, because some of us really do not like it. I find it more agreeable when the finger is covered in a glove or condom, or basically ANYTHING that will take the finger nail completely out of the picture, but most of the time I find it uncomfortable to have a finger in there at all. And the number one tip in some articles is using the 'come hither' movement with the finger, which makes me feel like I am hearing nails on a chalkboard. Gives me the willies that someone is not only in there with their fingernail, but they've been given a 'tip' that scratching, the only thing that is likely happening, the upper inside with a 'come hither' move is their best move. Ack. http://mysexprofessor.com/how-to-have-sex/how-to-finger-a-woman-safe-pleasurable-sex-techniques/

I could point out that it seems like bargirls providing sexual services in the Phillipines are required to have mandatory testing, but I did read one client based report where the sp he was seeing seemed to be admitting that she and another sp were sharing ID, meaning one or the other, but not both were getting the mandatory testing. He was also reporting that bbfs is fairly common, because either the bars or the stores charge a premium price for condoms, and the girls rarely have them on hand. Unless you get a responsible bar or bar owner who makes sure the sp has them prior to going off with the client, they may be charged around 50 cents each, even the ones that the health organizations are apparently providing for free. When someone is netting 15 or 20 bucks or less from encounters, they aren't that ready to spend what amounts to a great deal of money for something like a condom, especially if it ends up being two times. there is little chance of giving a cbj for the same reason.

What can I ask over the phone?
fortunateone replied to rexscott's topic in Ottawa Discussion - Escorts
It might be a good time to point out that your concern about legal entrapment does not apply here, or in any phone conversation as this is Canada, and sex work is legal. The discussion on the phone is legal, if you discuss these rates/services/restrictions with the sp directly. The area that the booking receptionist has to work within is the fact that he/she cannot procure anyone for you, and can't be the one to actually tell you these things. So keep that in mind and if you get more information, then you are doing well, and if you don't, it isn't because they don't want you to know, it is just that they are being careful about what they say. Sometimes this is all just trial and error, because you are an individual, and the person you meet is not the one you are going to be talking to on the phone. She won't know what you want and you may be too new to be able to express or ask, and if you don't, she won't think you want much of anything and act accordingly. It would be so much simpler if you choose someone with a recommendation or who has a profile on this site, there are some who work in spas, and some who are completely indy. They are both good choices. -
The real problem i think with some of these articles are the attitudes of the commentators, who come up with the farfetched idea that all the clients know these are underage sps, and they are choosing to see 13 year olds who are apparently posting all these online ads. It doesn't matter to them that the ad sites themselves have minimum age requirements, and that it is legal to see sps who are supposed to be 18 as the ad states. In other words, this issue is more your problem than either the underage ad poster or the legal age sps posting ads, because right now many people blame the clients for seeing underagers, not the teenager for choosing to do the work and posting the ad and posing as 18.
-
There is another followup story, that includes the results of that sting too: 5 guys charged, out of hundreds of emails contacting the sp in the ad when it went up (I doubt if the ad showed her age being 16, so they were contacting someone saying 18, legal age). I was wondering about the legitimacy of the claims, I went to look at both CL in therapeutic (the site they were showing on the TV report) and backpage, and there aren't even 40 people posting ads, so it just didn't add up that there could possibly be 40 ads for underage sps, which is what the first story claimed. I doubt if you could find that many in larger cities either, to be honest. Maybe Toronto, which is the largest city and largest market, and the higher number of advertisers, you could find 40 underage individual advertisers. Too many red flags in the story to be believed, imo.

Take a look and sign up and share this link if you agree, with as many as possible :) Now is the time to be heard. http://www.change.org/petitions/justice-minister-peter-mackay-produce-new-legislation-legalizing-prostitution-and-related-activities You can use your psuedonyms, as you will see, but address fields are required. Age restriction
fortunateone replied to Wallace48's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
I have seen one maximum age set at 55. It is possible this sp may revise that if she has been working for a few years, but at the time I had read the restriction this was a couple of years ago. She is very low volume, as in a handful of appointments in the month, and she felt that considering her own age, (and maybe due to the fact that unlike many sps, she isn't seeing a wide range of different ages in normal circumstances), she didn't feel there would be a connection. Fair enough. And good to know in advance prior to contact. -
Sex sold online by Teenagers horrifies Halifax Mother
fortunateone replied to EmilyRushton's topic in In the news
I'm mixed on this one. In the video report 'mom' admits that the majority of the teens are doing this by choice, no one is coercing, luring or forcing them. So when she collects these addresses and/or makes contact, and then goes onto say she plans to save them, i am wondering who she thinks she is saving them from, other than themselves? I would think anyone with a teenager knows full well you tell them to not do something, and they go out and do it. You aren't going to convince a 16 year old that it is a bad thing for anyone to give her 100 bucks for spending 15 minutes with them, when she knows she can now go out and get whatever she wanted her parents to buy for her but they refused. In other cases, this would be a teen who breaks into houses and/or shop lifts to get what she wants. These are the same 'good good' family girls who do this, and shop lift. \ Also, how is 'young' in the ad automatically indicate someone is underage, and how, if she isn't knocking on the door and checking ID, she's just collecting addresses and reporting them, is that proof they are underage. I'm thinking 40 is a pretty high number. I think you might be hard pressed to find 40 different sps advertising in Halifax on CL under therapuetic (yes, i could be wrong, exageration for effect lol), but if there were 40, there must be at least 400 ads on there of sps who are of age posting on Halifax CL . Is that being done? Is that possible? Is CL that good a place to advertise in NS? I'm not saying there aren't underagers working or that they are not doing it by choice. I recently read a study by researchers looking for the teen girl lured by pimps and turned out onto the streets of NYC, and they also failed to find a significant number of them (when compared to all the teen SWs that is). 90% were there by choice which includes economic need, but eliminates coercian and force, and 50 % of the total were boys. General public want people to believe LE is understaffed and so therefore unable to address this real concern. My personal opinion, based on reading a lot of studies and artifcles, is that the issue does not exist nearly to the extent that people believe it does. LE isn't finding, 'saving' and/or charging thousands or hundreds of people weekly because they simply aren't there in those kinds of numbers. They find, rescue and save a handful of teenage sps because that is about all there are. The stats prove it. She even confirms it. The sps are easy to find, you simply contact anyone who posts an ad with an age of 18 and uses 'young' in the ad. It would take about 12 hours to make appointments, show up, check ID and confirm the age is OK or not OK. It is, as she says, only 40 different underage sps. How long can that take? -
And she will think a lot more of you if you leave her alone than if you approached her asking about services, believe me. She will recognize that you respect her privacy and discretion, which if she is working under a new name she may approach you one day to let you know. In the meantime ignore her and pretend you have never met her before under any circumstances. Should your paths cross, treat her as you would any random stranger. If you know someone who knows her from school and you cross their paths and your friend decides to introduce you to each other, say, hi nice to meet you, and carry on with your day. You will earn a ton of respect and good will from her that is invaluable.

The ban is due for independent review this spring, but in the meantime the parties that originally opposed the law are now holding the majority power in the Norwegian government. As someone in the article mentions, with or without the study, it would take a lot for them to change their minds about this. They were opposed when they were not in power, they haven't changed their minds about getting rid of the law now that they are in. http://www.newsinenglish.no/2014/01/09/prostitution-law-battlelines-drawn/ http://www.newsinenglish.no/2014/01/09/prostitution-law-battlelines-drawn/

There is a new study just wrapping up now, which is referred to if you go to this older study at http://www.johnsvoice.ca It should provide you with some stats to refer to, and people to also contact. Also, you can spread information by posting in the babble section of rabble.ca under topics started on the feminism forum and the sex worker forum. Every step and post is a step in the right direction.

I recorded last night's episode, but haven't watched it yet. I have the new season set to record. I found it an interesting and unique approach to the Sherlock character, as I have found the Elementary approach also acceptable. I was a huge fan (in reruns) of the Jeremy Brett version of Sherlock.

There is discussion on these topics on rabble.ca, click on babble, (you do have to sign up), and under both feminism topic and sex worker topic headings. What i would like to see on that site is 2 dozen or more sex workers posting on the issue, to take the wind out of the chatter from the people who don't read the stats and research, but want to impose nordic model onto everyone.

Question Age Related
fortunateone replied to Inthevalley's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
It is on the younger side, but not unheard of. I am always surprised when an sp or mp actually mentions this to someone as i kind of feel that as a provider we should just accept you as you are and not try to make you feel odd or awkward about choosing to do this lol. The majority of people seeing me are in the middle of the age range, with as many under 30 or under 25 as there are over 70, as in not many, but still more than most people would assume would be visiting sps or mps. :)- 1 reply

Hi from the states with a couple questions
fortunateone replied to proyodeler's topic in Ottawa Discussion - Escorts
With the SC and SWs and even mps, you run the risk of getting caught up in a public lewdness charge, not necessarily anything specifically linked to prostitution laws. i am not sure it would be equal to a world of hurt, but certainly embarrassing :) Your safest place is out of the public eye, which is the reason why incalls, in spite of being grey area, are much safer than anything outdoors or in public venues. I see a number of cross border shoppers as well, the best part about being an American in Canada is that you can relax, ask questions prior to booking an appointment, and be more assured of what you are getting yourself into, which is of course a happy time :) -
i'd also add to make sure the NDP candidates and MPs know that they have your support, the more they can stack up the better, since their stance is a pro sex worker one. Additional Comments: You can make sure also to be on the lookout for other stories posted, then add your own comments to the story as others do. Also, don't forget if you are a twitterer, to go to #notyourrescueproject

"Cheating"? non-fs
fortunateone replied to Inthevalley's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
I provide FS and nonFS hj only sessions, and from some clients it is the line in the sand they don't want to go past due to SOs. Since some guys go all FS, and some guys who only do FS with higher risk activities, and another group wants bj only, nothing else, I think it is kind of considerate really that a guy is choosing a particular service for moral reasons like what he considers cheating versus not cheating on the spouse. it is one of the lowest risk activities as well, so to me the consideration he is including the lower risk of bringing something home, which is also nice. Maybe my morality compass is skewed way too far to one side, but it seems like an honest desire to not cause harm?
