  4. Some of us don't normally require references but are quite willing to give them. My only requirement is that the client contact me and ask me if it's okay and tell me who will be contacting me. If he only saw me once more than six months ago or saw me a few times, but hasn't in over a year, I would probably suggest he ask someone more current.
  5. Happy Birthday Mistert - Hope your day was memorable!
  6. All one has to do is google them and tons of negative reviews pop up so like anything, buyer beware.
  7. If the church is not open for business so-to-speak an their policy is not allow people in, I agree with RG that they were only being prudent in doing their jobs. That does not make them un-Christian for doing so. If you found a store or restaurant door open, but yet they were closed for business, and asked you to leave, would you think they should allow you to take time in their establishment to take shelter from the rain? Even though there were two employees there, one was working outside and the other inside. I don't think I would want to be working alone in an unlocked building where anybody could wander in off the streets. The door being unlocked was probably an oversight or was that way because perhaps the caretaker was there to do other tasks inside. There are only a few churches in Ottawa that leave their doors open at certain times of the day and all of them are downtown/centretown. A lot of homeless people seek refuge there during the day when shelters do not allow access. But they also have staff and some even have security cameras! The doors are locked after a certain hour or they would definitely have folks sleeping in the pews.
  8. I am not sure how they are getting away with scamming that many people. If someone told me they were going to give it to me at their employee discount and not to tell the boss, I would know right away it was a scam, because who in their right mind would want to be party to that. Also when they would ring it in at the price they supposedly are selling it to you and you using your credit card, the boss would know it wasn't the employee purchasing the product. Are people that gullible? How they are able to ring in purchases and finalize the sale without the person's authorization? Doesn't make sense. There is no way I would let them run my credit card or debit card before knowing the total. If they don't have a chip system, I won't deal with them. If they wanted me to hand over my card to swipe, no way. No one touches my card. I have been skimmed before. If someone rang through the wrong amount on my card, I would call the cc company and have them reverse it. If enough people complained, they would lose their merchant status. Surely there must be a provincial regulatory body in Alberta that deals with investigating consumer complaints and shutting down unscrupulous vendors. I do not think they are allowed to solicit business by standing in front of the store and solicit you in. Even at those make-over kiosks the mall, the girl can only offer you the make-over, you if you stop at the kiosk. Thanks for the warning, but in this day and age, if someone is scammed by a company that they can track down (in the mall) and they continue to operate, obviously people are going along with it. I would be more concerned that the HST number they have on their receipt is legit. I know someone who stayed a seedy motel and they were issuing hand printed receipt showing taxes. He asked for a printout showing the HST number, the guy produced a computer generated receipt and it turned out the HST number was fake.

  17. It is against CERB rules for clients to solicit providers with a barter proposal or negotiate their posted rates. It is not against the rules for a lady to advertise a barter proposal. Then the guys can respond accordingly because she initiated it. Carrie Moon had an ad once bartering for reduced rate on her services if someone would come and shovel her driveway.
