You know you're getting old when you have lunch and start planning what to eat for supper (OMG, I'm turning into my parents).

The first Halifax social was a awesome success. Thanks to everyone who came out and made the night fun and memorable. I certainly enjoyed meeting everyone. As Mrrnice2 said before we had people from 5 provinces there. Quite an accomplishment for a first time effort. Hope this is the start of more to come!

I am super excited about this evening! Mrrnice2: as for Old Dog stowing away in my suitcase, the heatwave in Ottawa has kept him holed up in the air conditioned dog house with a reserve case of beer.

Super stoked about visiting Halifax again after almost 10 years. So excited in fact, I can't sleep. Gonna be a long drive. But I'm in good company. See y'all there and to Old Dog: Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah!

I am aware of a couple of non-SP female hobbyiests on the board, but I have only seen one other one actually post. No matter what your gender, you are welcome here. My take on the guy who wants to share an SP with you is its because he wants either free sex with you and/or for you to help him share the costs of the other SP. As long as you assert yourself, I think you'll find we have a pretty friendly and respectful community here.

On a more serious note, The Red Cross has suggests that every household be prepared in the event of emergencies. (Anyone remember the ice storm of 1998 when power was knocked out in most of Eastern Ontario and many homes sustained damage). I find it interesting that some folks find Alberta humid. I loved it when I lived there for 2 years because I found the heat to be dry there. I have lived in Ontario most of my life and still can't get used to it. In fact, I find it worse as I get older. Combine that with pollution and I have to use my asthma puffer some days. Just stay cool and hydrated is all you can really do. Which is why I have absolutely no interest in visiting anywhere south where it is humid. Give me an island with a constant breeze and I might consider it.

Wow, you just don't want to let this go, do you? Since you've never attended a social before, perhaps as someone who has organized 6 of them in Ottawa I can enlighten you a bit as to our experience which the Halifax folks haven wisely taken into consideration. We had new members or those who never posted (and apparently had never seen anyone on cerb) show up at our socials to simply lurk and that kept others who were more active on the board and the community away. A lot of work goes into organizing these events and if it's not attended by members who are actually "hobbiests" and "sps", then there is no incentive for these members to take time out of their busy schedules to meet with people who simply want to gawk or cash in on free drinks (yes we had ladies posing as SPs who did this also). I am not in any way implying that all new members or even older members with no posts are necessarily lurkers only, but seeing how there is limited room, of course more seasoned members should be allowed first dibs. I don't see any reason for posting what you did except to try and stir the pot which is totally unnecessary and not in the spirit of the board. As Boomer reminds us, this is not a CERB-sponsored party. It is organized by cerb members for other cerb members at the discretion of the organizers. Simply having a cerb handle does not equal entitlement.
