The fake ads range from simple bait and switch to all out scams. With bait and switch ads, there may actually be a girl who is looking to book you on the other end of the text. Just don't do it! There is no girl! Do your homework. Search all of the photos and check for recommendations. Most importantly, never send a deposit to an unknown lady with no established reputation. It's getting crazy out there.

I understand your concerns. It's a hard situation. In my mind though, there is a much simpler reason that hotels require a credit card. To ensure they get paid. I am naturally a cynic so I always assume that motivations are based on self interest and not the common good. ;) Hotels need a way to charge you for incidentals (room service, long distance calls, honour bar, etc.), damages, items missing from the room, and the room charges themselves if you try to skip out. If they have a credit card with someone else's name on it, then it isn't legally binding. The owner can have the charges reversed if the hotel can't prove it was them who used the card. If it's a prepaid card, then it is only good until the amount is used up. If you owe more than that amount, then they are out of luck. I guess we have to remember that they are a business offering a service that is not considered a right. They are in it to make money. They are not government subsidized. Therefore they need to take measures to ensure that they don't lose money. The real issue in my mind with your hypothetical situation is why we except a society where she can't make a living that keeps her safe on minimum wage. That is a political question that is better addressed at election time. ;)

I understand the frustration everyone feels. I feel it myself. It would be so much simpler if only legit providers advertised on sites like that. Unfortunately it is unlikely to ever happen. It's just the nature of the type of site. The reason is that it is free for us as hobbiests to view and use the site. If we were paying a membership fee, then we would have every right to complain about the type of ads they allowed and who they accept their money from. As I understand it, their only income comes from the ads that are placed and the fees to bump them to the top of the list. (in addition to some banner ad revenue.) Expecting them to pick and choose who they except their income from, and to police it for us when they don't directly get any revenue from us is expecting a lot from them. Lyla is free to us as well, although it is different in that it is a board. The members themselves are the ones who police such things. The mods don't read every post or investigate every user. They rely on members to report such things, which is quite an effective system. The good news is that most of these scammers are going for the low hanging fruit. The men who believe that you can spend the night with a supermodel for $75 (or even for free in some cases). This makes these ads very easy to spot and to simply move on. It does add some time to the process, but again, the price of the service is right. The only way scammers like this will ever stop is when it stops working for them. When people stop sending them advance payments to secure the dates. Unfortunately, there is one born every minute as the saying goes so I don't see that happening any time soon. Especially with men who are thinking with their other brain. ;)

I have to agree with the above recommendations. I had the privilege of spending some time with this beautiful lady this afternoon. She is charming, attractive, passionate and personable. From a political standpoint they are accomplishing lots. The idea of saving trafficed kids (as well as saving regular sps from themselves) carries a lot of sway with the Christian fundamentalist right, which is the segment that got and keeps this government in power. Whether or not they are doing any actual good ( or actually even causing harm) is irrelevant to them. It's all optics.
