cameras at Barbarella's Diamonds Cabaret
r__d replied to Kilt Boy's topic in Ottawa Discussion - Stripclubs & Dancers
While many of us probably have been aware of the possibility (or indeed likelihood) of recording devices in the CR at Barb's, it is more than bit disconcerting to be told that the owner (and possibly other staff) are showing "past video" to people on his/their smartphone. KiltBoy, without getting into specific individuals, are those (the "more than one person") you allude to here dancers or patrons? One would hope that the recorded video is erased after review (for either song count disputes or behaviour transgression) but I suppose that we have to be aware of the ever-present possibility that the material is retained. A major concern (of patrons and dancers) in this regard has to be that a disgruntled staff member who has managed to gain access to some or all of the archived digital video will malevolently make this material available on some public forum or, after the closure of the club (sorry to raise that topic again), the video files will be released into the wild in some way. Perhaps one should not panic on this count, but the worst case scenario is indeed somewhat troubling. P.S. : Does anyone have any inkling or speculation as to just where the cameras are located and thus what their potential lines-of-sight might encompass? Given the height of the CR stall walls and the position of the cubicle, I always guessed (perhaps incorrectly) that the last stall in the corner across from the DJ booth (the southeast corner of the CR, aka 'Jenny's office') would not be easily viewed by any camera placement except one directly overhead. Maybe I did not fully consider the possibilities of various placements and sight-lines. -
MeganDancer informs us (in her blog entry 'Dancers have rules too!') that this vexing issue is addressed by the posted rules for dancers at Barb's. Apparently, three songs is the time limit allowed for accomplishing this. To be fair to the lovely ladies at Barb's, I can't recall ever having had to wait that long.

MeganDancer's blog post entitled 'Dancers have rules too!' is really quite enlightening. I was especially intrigued by these two: "no cream before the stage!" and "When I clean my pole, it's not because I dislike the dancer.....". Agreed. -
To continue the discussion (here in the Barb's thread) about a more general topic raised in the thread devoted to Phoenix (as suggested by Cato), I have to say that I've very rarely been accosted repeatedly or urged to go to the CR by a dancer after I've indicated that I was waiting for a particular lady. (It could be that this says more about me than it does about the dancers, as I'm often best identified as the "ugliest guy at Barb's".) I have occasionally (but only once to the point of annoyance) been approached by the same dancer a number of times when I have not indicated that I was waiting for someone. In the past, I've often felt that this general lack of 'pressure' (in the sense of constant requests for CR trips) was one of the best features of the atmosphere at Barb's. Maybe things are changing a bit at Barb's. I hope not, but I guess it's understandable if things are slowing down. Encouraging to read a report re a busy recent Saturday afternoon, but perhaps that wasn't typical of recent days. Hope to drop by sometime next week to reacquaint myself with the scene at 340.

Barbarellas closing at end of year?
r__d replied to hopeful's topic in Ottawa Discussion - Stripclubs & Dancers
There has been a good deal of discussion about this in the 'Barb's' thread. On a couple of occasions, "swirling" rumours prompted fears of Barb's imminent demise. Both times the talk ended up being unfounded, at least in the immediate term. With the LRT scheduled to begin operations in mid-2018 (I think), perhaps this will come to pass. It seems that with a new building owner (Claridge) planning to develop the site, the term of the existing lease would be the decisive factor. So, does anyone know if the lease is up at year end? -
Terms for dance moves (in the CR, not on stage) I've heard: The Ben Dover, The Stevie Wonder and The Flying Buttress.

Thanks for the info Kilt Boy. Is the lady in question a blonde or at least somewhat blondish? A poster on the Barefax thread has been inquiring about the stagename of a dancer there he describes as "dirty blonde", "thin", "tall". with "huge" enhancements. I wonder if you are referring to the same dancer.
-
Thanks for the info Juice. Perhaps this dancer at the 'Fax is worth checking out. Long, slender legs, hugely busty, "eye-popping".....sounds like a really extraordinary look. Do you remember when you saw her? Afternoon or evening? What day of the week? Can any 'Fax regulars confirm a name for her?

There is an area dancer who goes by the stage name of Vegas and who has danced at various clubs (the 'Fax, 'Mate, Pigale and, I'm told, in the past Barb's) but I'm not sure the description given here entirely fits. The Vegas of whom I'm thinking probably would not be described as "very thin" and her "man-mades", while noticeable, never struck me as "huge". Nor is she especially tall. As well, her ink is more extensive than just on her "lower back". Can any 'Fax habitues provide some clarification here? Has there been a tall, thin, busty blonde calling herself Vegas at the 'Fax recently?

As a long-time "devotee"of a certain tall, busty dancer at Barb's, I'm wondering if anyone who frequents these boards (and the local clubs!) has any advice or recommendation for a new dancer (or dancers) to whom I might enjoy becoming similarly devoted. Juicy(Melanie) at Barb's seems nice and sometimes I've noticed a well-built blonde (or two) at the 'Mate. Maybe I should venture across the river to "Big Al's". I'm told that Pigale often features enhanced blondes. Haven't been to the 'Fax for a while - perhaps there are some possibilities there or at the 'Den. Can't be "pinin' after the fjords" forever I guess.
-
I'd guess that it was your general amiability and chattiness that led the peace officers to infer that you might be a staff member. As you noted, at least some patrons have a slightly less open and positive attitude when municipal employees arrive on the scene.

So I can resume using the (apparently highly offensive) word "circumstance"?

Black Girl Rule
r__d replied to PrettyChrissyBaby's topic in Ottawa Discussion - Stripclubs & Dancers
While perusing the interwebs for news about the goings-on at our local establishments, I was a bit taken aback by a posting (on another, unmoderated board, not the redoubtable resource depended upon by many of us - i.e. rat'cheer as they say in the South) suggesting that on a recent Saturday afternoon there were "too many black girls" at Barb's. Has management responded to the concerns raised in this thread re the BGR or is this just a coincidence? (Perhaps a limit remains in place and there just weren't many dancers in that day so that by chance a majority of ebony dancers was the result on that occasion.) I've never had the impression that there were "too many" of any type of dancer in any situation in the local clubs. Difficult to guess if the sort of comment/attitude quoted above constitutes outright racism or merely bemoans a lack of variety. -
Disturbing to hear that a member of Barb's staff was seriously wounded outside the club (apparently trying to deal with a situation that started inside) last night (1/31). It's always very upsetting to hear of this kind of violent incident. http://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/two-men-wounded-in-separate-downtown-vanier-stabbings

Ok, now I'm REALLY jealous! -
Interesting insight and perspective here. Seems to me that it's one thing to have an ATF, quite another to "be very possessive, getting angry" seeing a "favourite dancer even speak to other patrons." That sort of thing would tend to strike me as potentially, as the kids say, "problematic".
-
I guess sometimes this just happens, but it's a bit difficult to figure from the dancer's point of view. Perhaps I'm missing something here - maybe he had been such a good regular over such a long period of time that she felt in some way obliged or there in fact were "other details of their engagement" to be taken into consideration. Otherwise, I find this puzzling. The only time anything like this happened to me was many years ago, but the lady in question had not yet become an ATF and didn't know me. May have mentioned this a while ago in the 'Barb's' thread (so apologize for repetition if so) but I do have a recollection of seeing a dancer who became my ATF sitting at a table with a few gents for quite a while, but no one takes her to CR. She then takes her turns onstage and afterwards makes a beeline directly back to the table, sits down and again, no one takes her to the CR. This goes on until I have to leave. At the time I assumed that the guys at the table had been buying her drinks or had taken many dances prior to my arrival or were friends or long-time regulars. Recall being mildly annoyed at the time but I guess it's important to remember that dancers may choose to spend their time at the club as they wish.
-
While it's probably wise to attempt to avoid becoming "completely obsessed with a particular dancer" there are those of us who have (in the past) attended to see an ATF more or less exclusively at a given club. Having said that, I find it difficult to imagine a scenario where someone could "monopolize that girl completely if they are both in the club". Maybe a very deep-pocketed and highly obsessive fan of a particular dancer might manage this, but I wonder if it would be likely to happen. Perhaps I am naive on this count. My own view has always been that potential problems are most likely to arise when someone is concerned with or interested in seeing a fave dancer outside of the club environment. It seems to me that one can indeed "make friends with dancers" but that this will be something limited to in-club interaction. I have endeavoured to not "be that guy", but very occasionally certain ladies may allude to this sort of thing (i.e. meeting outside the club) and I have typically felt that this was a way of keeping "that guy" interested in the early stages of his near-obsession with the dancer in question. Certainly, there is a fine line when a dancer is attempting to cultivate someone who seems to be interested in becoming a regular and I understand that a dancer may want to seem friendly, engaged and interested. As much as the guys should not have expectations in this regard, it's probably also wise for dancers not to tease or throw out hints of this nature. Admittedly, a dancer might fall into this inadvertently and thus may set up an unfortunate series of further misunderstandings. I've taken the approach of straightforwardly suggesting that an ATF not hesitate to approach when noticing me in the club and if I'm just there for a short time, I'll tell her right away.

There was a young man in a kilt, Who said "Bolt-ons are what make her 'built' ", He was given the finger In reply, 'twas a zinger And responded "But I feel no guilt".

I was having a CR session with my ATF dancer on her last day of dancing at Barb's and over the piped-in CR soundtrack came an obscure song that she very consistently used for her stage routines one summer a number of years ago when I was first falling under her spell. (Perhaps not altogether coincidental though, the DJ may have put it in the mix to mark the occasion.) It was simultaneously stimulating and nostalgic to hear it in that situation. Instantly recalled years of memories. "Yes Boss" - Hess is More.
