Except for some family living there, and a Gagnon's (tackle store) I agree with you As for city, well town, Apsley, Ontario, not much there except it's close to Jacks Lake, another lake I've fished RG

Found out I've got to get my truck e-tested...they never mailed me the notice in the mail. What sucks, ever since the e testing program started, I haven't heard of any vehicles (even old ones) failing. Why don't they either just abolish the damned program, or up the price of a vehicle licence to the cost of e testing, save a lot of inconvenience for everyone And maybe it's not such a inconvenience in a big city, but in a small town with no e testing facilities, having to drive (and burn gas, creating emissions btw) to a urban centre to get it done is inconvenient RG

I should add, in my profile, I put Smalltown, Ontario. That's because the smalltown I live in is somewhat comprable to a subdivision in a big city. Someone in a big city may not mind stating the city they live in, but not the subdivision they live in During the course of an encounter, depending on the chemistry between the lady and myself, I may tell where I live, if it comes up for discussion A quick rambling RG -
The silent treatment

You make a good point. And there are always two sides to a story. But how are you supposed to know what you did wrong warranting the cold shoulder if the other person won't tell you. Communication is much better than non-communication IMHO RG -
I have some savings. What I do, this lifestyle as an example, is pay cash as I go, using disposable income...and avoid credit cards. That way I only spend what has been earmarked to be spent. If I don't have cash on hand to spend, then I don't spend till I get some cash on hand RG

I like Cristy, she has started many interesting threads. She is someone I consider a honest poster. I hope to read many more posts from Cristy RG

I like Samantha, for her insights and contributions. I always get something from what she writes. But most important, she is a friend, and one day I hope to take a flight out to BC...she is a lady I'd like to meet RG

The silent treatment
roamingguy replied to Cara Silver's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
I also don't have answers, but maybe a person hates arguing and fighting, and sometimes in the heat of an argument either worried about saying the wrong thing, that can't be taken back, or feels that he/she can be manipulated and lose the argument/fight. The silent treatment is an alternate to an argument. Had an ex g/f that did the silent treatment and she knew why, I didn't. Instead of contacting her begging her to talk to me, I just waited till she was over it and contacted me...she would do the silent treatment sometimes, but hated it when no one talked to her...her silent treatments were short lived Just a thought, don't know if I'm right or wrong But on a lighter note, posted this yesterday http://www.cerb.ca/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=86472 RG -

Beware the circle of trust
roamingguy replied to backrubman's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Maybe I'm getting paranoid reading this thread (although sometimes parania is good policy when someone is out to get you LOL) but at least for me, if someone contacts you using my handle feel free to pm me to confirm, and also ask them my real name (I'm a advocate of verification, so any lady I contact for an encounter gets my real name, board handle, phone and email, even if not asked for) Don't know if that helps at all, but I don't bite, feel free to contact me if my handle is used. It could help protect you, and me RG -
I don't think there is a backlash against post secondary education per se. Just a university degree doesn't mean you have character, make you a nice person, someone you would like to meet, or for that matter, make you intelligent, that's all. All a degree means is you have taken a prescribed course of studies and received at the end, a piece of paper with a gold seal on it. Just as in society as a whole, there are people who are thoughtful, kind, and hard working, just as there are those who are selfish lazy and thoughless. A degree doesn't impact that one way or another Good post Spong RG

First, we survived being born to mothers Who smoked and/or drank while they were Pregnant. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, Tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes. Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-base paints. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, Locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode Our bikes, we had baseball caps not helmets on our heads. As infants & children, We would ride in cars with no car seats, No booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes. Riding in the back of a pick-up truck on a warm day Was always a special treat. We drank water From the garden hose and not from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, From one bottle and no one actually died from this. We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon.. We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar. And, we weren't overweight. WHY? Because we were Always outside playing...that's why! We would leave home in the morning and play all day, As long as we were back when the Streetlights came on. No one was able To reach us all day. And, we were O.K.. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps And then ride them down the hill, only to find out We forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem. We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's and X-boxes. There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, No video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, No cell phones, No personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms. WE HAD FRIENDS And we went outside and found them! We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth And there were no lawsuits from these accidents. We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, And the worms did not live in us Forever. We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, Made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, Although we were told it would happen, We did not put out very many eyes. We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and Knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just Walked in and talked to them. Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal With disappointment. Imagine that!! The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law Was unheard of. They actually sided with the law! These generations have produced some of the best Risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever. The past 50 years Have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all. If YOU are one of them? CONGRATULATIONS! You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good . While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave and lucky their parents were. Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it ?

Sometimes one can't finish what one starts. A friend of mine had to quit high school. Did he lack maturity and discipline to finish what he started. No. He got his girlfriend pregnant, so he did what he considered the right thing to do...he married his girlfriend and went out in the working world to support his wife and child to be....that to me says much more about maturity, discipline and character than if he finished high school and forgot about his responsibilities to his girlfriend and child to be. Education comes in all forms, but it says nothing about a person's character, maturity or discipline RG

My guess, in many cases, people are in a hurry to register to get on CERB and look at and maybe participate in the board, and don 't take the time to fill out their profile completely. But yes I agree, people should go back in an fill out their profile, if not done already From a Gentleman from Smalltown, Ontario (but I do travel) RG :-) -
Toronto, Ontario-only good things I can say about it. There is a Bass Pro Shops there and I've met some wonderful ladies there too RG
