Or I guess it would be true to say that Canadian Universities get huge numbers of people College graduates who come to learn something that get them a career... I don't think this is or or be about one form OT education or training being better than another there are individuals in no formal education that succeed in amazing ways and different education and training are best for different careers. Learning either through form education at a University or college or trade apprenticeship programs or other more unique individual learning strategies is what allows you to develop and succeed. Is a for education right or needed by everyone no.... can a formal university education be instrumental in moving your career along yes...... lol but so could being at the right place at the right time. Just my Opinion

Not feeling great today so just home on couch watching the Grammy Awards and checking out all the post here... -
I have moved to digital for almost all my music but have kept most of the CD'S, albums, tapes and yes... 8-tracks but that's mainly because I am a pack rat. I guess I have more easily moved to digital for music as for the last year I have subscribed to a music streaming service... you really cannot beat having almost any music available to you at any time. In terms of books I often download books but when I really appreciate a book I usually get the hard copy to keep. Digital is great for convenience but there really is something about that hard copy.

I would agree whole heartily that it is unfortunate when anyone has to work late into their life just to make ends meet and I am fully supportive of public policy that improves public pension plans and income for seniors. That said not everyone over the age of 50 or 55 is working because of financial necessity so do it because they enjoy their career or for social connection reasons.... I am old enough to retire and may choose to leave my existing employment at anytime but I doubt as long as I have good health I will "retire".

In many city's including where I live here in St. John's for the last few years there has been a shortage of individuals willing to work at entry level service jobs and this has resulted in companies like MacDonald's importing workers from other countries. Please don't take my saying this as a negative towards immigrant workers as let's face it we are all immigrants it's really just a question of timing. The Canadian labour market has been short on high skilled employees and many of the entry level service jobs are not seen as acceptable anymore to everyday canadians. In my opinion the reality in Canada will be that we will need to encourage many older workers to stay in the job market or we will need to be way more open to immigration. Bottom line for me is people should choose when they want to retire not governments. Just my Opinion

I am at retirement age and have worked in senior management in an organization that provides me with an excellent defined benefits indexed pension so the choice to retire from a financial position will not be hard but I believe there is more to it then that. When I entered the employment world after university some 35 years ago it was with a keen interest in doing interesting work that would expand my learning and contribute meaningfully to my community while allowing me to financially secure so I could raise a family... In this regards I have been extremely luck because I have worked with amazing people and been extremely well treated by my employer. I generally still enjoy going to work each day and get great satisfaction from the fact that the work I get to do is meaningful. I guess because I enjoy what I do I don't feel any pressure to retire. In regards to feeling some social imperative to do the right thing and step aside for the next generation... no I don't see that... I do however feel an imperative to use my experience, knowledge and leadership role as a platform to encourage and develop others and I am extremely active in this. I don't think that unemployment in this country is driven up by individuals not retiring when they could or should in fact for the last few years we have had in this country a shortage of well educated workers and should have been using immigration to a greater extent. The drop in the price for oil is of course a medium term hit to our economy but in the longer focus Canada will still have serious gaps in labour availability due to lower birth rates. Bottom line form my perspective is people should be able to work as long as they want too. Just my Opinion

Sharing a table tonight at a children's charity Pancake supper fund raising event with another family that included an adorable little girl who just made me smile.

I hope everyone is a great Valentines weekend with lots of special time with the people you care most about in your life. I lost someone very close to me a number of years ago and miss that person pretty mush every day of my life... holidays, anniversaries and special occasions are always greeted with mixed emotions when you lose someone you love but you do your best to make it still the best you can for the people who are still with you. My wish for everyone on Valentines Day is that you take advantage of the day to tell the people you care about how you feel... they will love to hear it and frankly you never really know when that opportunity will no longer exist. Happy Valentines Day

Well I was supposed to attend a Pancake supper on Tuesday night this week but due to bad weather here in NL it was postponed till tonight so supper was Pancakes and while the food was not great it was for a wonderful Children's charity so all is good.

If I am booking with a lady than the probability is that I have done my homework and confirmed that she is an established and reliable and as such I normally don't have any real concern with providing her with my information including phone number, name, Lyla profile info etc. I have never felt it was necessary to share my profession information or work phone number with a lady. If I have a problem with providing verifiable information that the lady can use in her screening process then maybe I should not be booking. In my experience if you can provide references from other established ladies and you share your profile info from here on Lyla many ladies don't ask for anything more then a phone number and hey communication is kinda important. I would kind of have to agree if someone does not want to share their lyla profile info then there is something not quite right with the situation. Just my Opinion -
In my experience having to share a picture is certainly not something I would consider a part of most regular screening processes and is no something I would be comfortable in doing with someone I have never met. However if that's what the lady feels is necessary for her comfort then I would respect her right to operate as she sees fit. While I don't see this as something I would generally do I did in fact do that with a wonderful lady who I saw regularly for almost two years. Before our initial meeting chatted on an off for several weeks and an she share with me a Number of pictures of herself and a day or so before we met she said she was looking forward to seeing what i looked like and asked if I was willing to share a picture which I did... So I guess in the right position I guess i would lol
