The most ironic thing is that your best years for multiple shots on goal are the years you are just learning your basic stick handling skills .... -

My 5000th and last Post
Old Dog replied to PistolPete's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
I don't know where to begin with this... and when it gets going, I don't know how it will end. First, to Pete. I can't say I didn't see this coming. I was perplexed to a degree by the fact that you virtually stopped posting in the past year - I suspected that it had to do with a family issue to which you had alluded earlier, but I also suspected that was not the sole purpose. My suspicions were accurate. It seems you, like many others, have become somewhat disenchanted with the direction of CERB and the fact that it has, in many ways, diverted its course from a community playground to a series of soapboxes surrounded by fragile eggshells. If it's any consolation, I admire your decision. You, of all the guys on the board, were the first to extend a hand in friendship to me. I was new and you reached out to welcome me to the fold. I thank you for that and will remember that gesture of kindness and camaraderie fondly. Your decision to step to the side is an ominous reminder to all of us that what was once a very inclusive and welcoming community has become a mosaic of factions. It disturbs me that we have lost a resounding voice, a pioneer and a friend to many, not to illness, not to dramatic life change, but to indifference and worse... to intolerance. I understand the changing nature of the business. I understand the need to forge alliances, to form organizations and to speak up on issues that are relevant. There are hundreds of issues that affect our community and frankly this is the best and only place that we have to discuss these things civilly and openly with both sides of the business, provider and client sharing an equal voice. There is NO OTHER PLACE like CERB. That being said, we have set ourselves on a course where if we don't change... if we don't alter the path on which we tread, we will all end up in disparate destinations. God knows, many of us have tried to be peacemakers. We seek to smooth ruffled feathers and heap praise upon those who work to make our community better, divert conversations that get heated and try to get things back on track. There are however those in this community that believe that this is an opportunity to put people in their place. To disregard the intent of the board. To twist words. To belittle and demean. Frankly, and pardon my use of the vernacular, we have a few assholes on board. I may be one of them... I don't know. It's ironic that in this season of togetherness, the season of joy and family and all other things warm and fuzzy, we shouldn't have to face the departure of a valued member of our family to this situation. It's like losing the uncle that told dirty jokes or the capricious cousin that knew what life was all about. Pete... you have been and will be missed. Your contributions were the cornerstone for many things that followed and will follow. It is my hope, especially at Christmas, that we can give each other the gift of love, respect, humour and good natured discourse in the new year and the many years to come. We have seen in this sad event, what happens when that does not occur. Finally, I do extend to each and every one of you my love and admiration for the holiday season. You have enriched my life in ways that you can't possibly imagine. OD -

Coffee. Anywhere. Any. TIME. The written word. Books are an incredible. Patience. There are way too many frickin' idiots out there. Self control. Ibid on the idiots. Boxer shorts. Bikini briefs crushed my junk. Remote controls. The final decree of divorce. Sometimes patience wears thin and self control wanes.
