  6. Dr. No (1962), starring Sean Connery, is the first James Bond film. Based on the 1958 Ian Fleming novel of the same name, it was adapted by Richard Maibaum, Johanna Harwood, and Berkely Mather. The film was directed by Terence Young, and produced by Harry Saltzman and Albert R. Broccoli, a partnership that would continue until 1975. In the film, James Bond is sent to Jamaica on an investigation into the death of a fellow British agent. The murder trail leads him to the underground base of Dr. Julius No, who is plotting to disrupt an early American manned space launch with a radio beam weapon. Although the first of the Bond books to be made into a film, Dr. No wasn't the first of Fleming's novels, Casino Royale being the debut for the character. Consequently, the film does not depict Bond earning his Double-0 status, which grants him a licence to kill; instead, it presents Bond as a seasoned veteran, and even makes a few references to threads from earlier books, such as M mentioning that Bond's current gun gave him problems, before presenting him with his more well known Walther PPK. Dr. No was produced with a low budget, but was a financial success, leading to a series of films that continues to this day. Dr. No also launched a successful genre of "secret agent" films that flourished in the 1960s. Many of the iconic aspects of a typical James Bond film were established in Dr. No, beginning with what is known as the gun barrel sequence. The film begins with an introduction to the character through the view of a gun barrel, and a highly stylized main title sequence, both created by Maurice Binder. In his work on film, production designer Ken Adam established a unique and expansive visual style that is the hallmark of the Bond film series.

  12. Ohhhh Brian. You get a few drinks into him and he thinks everyone wants to see the red rocket....
  13. BE yourself. You have established a rapport based on who you are, not who you want to be. Marvel at the experience. You are about to see one of the most wonderful people you will ever meet. She will treat you well... do the same. Write a recommendation. There's not a lot of people that you can tell... but you can tell us. Be ON TIME, COURTEOUS and A GENTLEMAN. ENJOY!
  14. I am not sure "need" has anything to do with it. Like London Broils and Rouladen, or even turkey with sausage or oyster stuffing/dressing... it all depends on what you want to try or taste. I am sure it's not for everyone, but I would give it a shot....
  15. Autumn is the time for warm and tasty comfort food... I will usually try to make at least one or two big batches of cabbage rolls for sharing, eating and freezing.... one of those great meals that hits the spot on a cool fall day. Huge vats of chili also come to mind... less beans, more meat and add a little punch with a generous dash or three of Tandoori masala in the spice mix... a really nice addition to your traditional chili recipe. Pumpkin pie, Apple crisp, Turkey soup!!!!!
  16. Sophia... I see what you are saying but at the same time, Jesus has appeared at least half a dozen times on FG... so it's not like it's an anomaly. My kids have watched it with me and they both laugh... but they understand that it is truly pushing the envelope.
  17. Angie... I am just a rookie at these but I assure you that we will try our hardest to make this a great evening, and we know that our community will support the evening by their contributions both in terms of door prizes and to the toy drive. I am hopeful that we can look at this one in the same terms as the last two socials which were OUTSTANDING!
