  2. Arsenic-Eating Bug Holds Clues to Extraterrestrial Life Scientists dabbling in the toxic waters of a California lake have found a new species of bacteria that thrives on poisonous arsenic -- a discovery that opens up the likelihood of extraterrestrial life, according to a much anticipated NASA study. Arsenic is a deadly poison to many plants and animals, but the new bacteria slurp it up unscathed and then fold it into their DNA and other crucial components. As long as the bugs have a steady supply of arsenic, they happily live without a chemical that has long been regarded as one of the basic building blocks of all living things. The finding explodes scientists' working definition of the stuff of life -- meaning that life on other worlds might not look exactly the same as life here on Earth. "Maybe there are places elsewhere in our solar system ... where arsenic is more prevalent, and microbes can not only make a living on it but are more composed of it," study co-author Ronald Oremland of the U.S. Geological Survey told AOL News. That "would broaden the possibility of life being out there." The study was published on the journal Science's online site Science Express today after days of speculation about a NASA announcement involving "astrobiology" and "exobiology." The finding "enlarges the probability that life exists elsewhere in the universe," said Louis Irwin, emeritus professor at the University of Texas, El Paso, and author of several books on exobiology, the study of the origins of life and life on other planets. "The value of the current work is to remind us that we need to keep an open mind about what life can look like." Oremland's co-author Felisa .....-Simon, a NASA astrobiology fellow, wondered for years whether there might be microbes somewhere in the vastness of nature that could make a living off arsenic. She and her colleagues decided to take a look in eastern California's Mono Lake, which is heavily laced with arsenic that leaches out of surrounding rocks and is also emitted by the lake's hydrothermal vents. The lake's arsenic level is six times higher than the Environmental Protection Agency's arsenic limit for drinking water. The lake is also extremely salty and alkaline, leading Mark Twain to write after a visit there a century and a half ago that its "venomous water would eat a man's eyes out like fire, and burn him out inside, too." The researchers collected various microbes from the lake, then took them back to the laboratory and subjected the bugs to high levels of arsenic. At the same time, they deprived the bacteria of phosphorus, an element that is supposedly one of the six mandatory nutrients needed by all life forms. To the scientists' surprise, one strain of bacteria did just fine without phosphorus. The new species simply used arsenic in place of phosphorus in DNA, proteins and other molecules. Not only did it survive, but it also grew. It was "an experiment that -- I'll be honest -- shouldn't have worked," .....-Simon told AOL News. When she embarked on the project, "I thought, 'I'm going to ruin my career, because this is crazy.'" .....-Simon, a research fellow without a permanent university position, has jokingly named her new bacterium GFAJ-1. The initials stand for "Give Felisa a Job." .....-Simone doesn't know whether her new microbe relies on arsenic in the wild. But her experiment shows that it can do so, a talent that could be useful if it's surrounded by organisms that can't do the same. "This is about cracking open the door to what evolutionary options on Earth could've been," she said.
  3. Thanks Acco! Megan is right. I tried to find her and I did not get anywhere. I just feel very sorry for her. Escort or street girl she is a human being and whoever did this should rotten in hell! I can not do anything to help her. No one can at the moment. Hope she recovers and is well. May be this is an opportunity for her, who can tell!!! Thanks for your advise. No worries, I am staying put because I can not do anything. Hugs LL
  4. Thanks for the suggestion Megan. I would prefer the money going to her....this is a horrible time of the year to be without cash. She may not need it , you are right, but I have the internal need to give "her" and on the other hand I help all the women shelters I can. Thanks for your kindness and let's see if someother people has other ideas. I am going to investigate and see if I can find more details about her and even her identity. Thanks again Megan Lora (thanks also to you Zealous4U; Harmony house always accepts donations also and it is a great place for ladies in need) LoraL
  5. This is so AWFUL......what kind of sick person can do this to another? "broken jaw?"...... I heard other stories in my life about beatings of sex workers, but not in a First World Country PLEASE LET'S START A "COLLECTION" FOR HER.......she must need the cash.... Mod, can you authorize a collection for her. As some of you know I paint and I am willing to make a ruffle with one of my works (not bad, I tell you) and if we all put 10 dollars and send it to the wonderful Mod, and he can draw the numbers and whoever gets it gets my painting...... we can help this colleague SP with her present needs.... Please, any answers to this? Think about this happening to you yourself and the bills have to be paid..... please let's do something for her!!!!!!!!!!! Loralee:sad:
  6. Oh Victoria.....this can not be happening to someone as nice as you!!!! I really feel bad because this is more common than what the gentlemen think, and as Joyful C said it is more common when we mature ladies do not accept to meet with a young male. Have you considered to work with a bodyguard? do not laugh, as you know they do it in Germany and Netherlands, and here in Canada are several very high-end ladies with bodyguards. It is absolutely awful, our Roaming guy also said that your instincts were well tuned and you knew who u did not want to meet, however, that is not enough stop for a stalker and these guys seem obsessed with you as a stalker would be.... Do not punish your clients in those provinces because of the "chaff" just get someone to protect you and contact the police if you feel in danger..... All the best Victoria, you do not deserve this!!!! Hope it gets solved for your peace of mind.... Loralee
  7. to the ladies...: let's say you are asked by someone you care for (a client) to stop this business...would you? to the gentlemen: let's say your SO tells you to stop it..would you? or you rather sneak out of their pressure? I know someone who was asked to stop and this individual said "no"....oh oh..this is may haven.....what are in the Lord's name you talking about...me stoping???????????/ True story ladies and gentlemen.....if a clients and you( for the ladies ) gets to ask you to stop....would you ( do not tell us that "if you are compatible, if you feel the same...if they have enough cash to keep going.....)stop escorting???? how about the boys....some are divorced and do not want anymore shit (sorry...drama)...what about if you are asked to stop?????would you???? I have many friends in this business who are committed, married or on the like.....their husbands, accept this....what if they stop accepting??? how about the clients who could get discovered......what would you say????? tough , I know...I am on those spots right now...I understand it......
  8. sex addiction....YES......it is real no wonder we are all here!!!!!
  9. Oh this is so funny, I hope everybody contributes to this thread, it is awesome. Last Christmas I received the weirdest present ever: a white box with 6 boxes inside (different shapes and brands) in every box was a part of a present....first box a very well wrapped egg...second box same thing, third box same thing, fourth box same thing..sixth box same thing...in the last one was a tiny fry pan with a note...."GET CRACKING" It was from a gentleman I like very much....he is not weird but I guess he knows I am!!! (Angela I loved your 4 years old present!!!life is made of those things, thanks Lord!) LoraLee:-D
  10. Dear Cato you are such a gentleman!!!! it happens the same with us ladies....we love to help each other but not always we get a thank you for it. Not that we do it to be thanked but it is only manners and appreciation for ones' time! Nice thread LoraLee:roll:
  11. thanks darling...that was beautiful...I appreciated it!!!! Merry many things to you this end of the year!!!! LoraLee
  12. Regulars are my life right now!!!! I praise them and give them thanks many times in different ways....I do alll my best for them and they are loyal to me (it does not mean they do not go around....good for them....) I love them and miss them and count on them for my pleasure and my bills!!!! Thanks guys for keeping up with me for all this years!!!!! I will never abandon you either!!!! LoraLee:bowdown:

  14. I am sure many of us want to know where those clinics are??? Dear Fortunate one I always trust your advice and value your opinions, and in this particular situation, much more. I have been chatting with my regular clients about this topic and they want to be tested but their anonymity is compromised (one of them went to a clinic and they gave him a form to fill up and they asked for their OHIP number (to bill the government, of course). He was just here with me and I mentioned your post and he eagerly wants to know where to get tested.....please could you provide those addresses? or just send me a PM.....up to you and, once again, thanks for all these contributions you make to our board! Loralee your friend as always!
  15. Dear DocOdd it is well known that when a patient goes to the doctor for a test, and is diagnosed with a "contagious" disease...whatever the brand (from TB to STD and HIV)....the Public Health gets notified (in most countries is the same thing) - I used to work with a doctor. ....then, if a client goes testing and gets a positive, he will be contacted and his wife or whoever shares his life would also be requested to go for a test.....how a client would explain this situation to an SO?????? Dramatic....but he can not avoid to tell his SO because if he has some dignity (I do not mean if he loves her or not, that is out of the question)he would prevent that person from getting sick, otherwise he is a criminal, correct? CONDOMS FOR EVERYTHING....is the only answer to prevent this situations....for daty for blow jobs and rims, intercourse and anal sex.....there is no other except to become abstinent..... and for those who like toys.....wash them after every use with boiling water..... LoraLee
  16. I am delighted reading the answers to it.....great community at Cerb we have !!! let me ad that the pre-sex part is the most delightful of all the sessions....our gentlemen here are good at it!!!!Most of them understand that "one does not bang over and over and as a consequence hurts the provider.." Just banging is boring!!! Thanks guys! loralee
  17. You are on the spot Hornee69, it is not the SP's, (and we are all good people, by the way, I resent - so do many more here, your remark). The providers are not the ones who go purchasing STD's....they get them with their clients, working on and with them.....my point was and is that clients should be aware of their health condition as much as providers do, because they are both multi partnered and as you well said, who knows who the guy before you was???? she trusted him as she trusts you....and? they may be good people also, but absolutely unaware that they are carrying an std..... right?
  18. Apex we are all "special needs"; Your son may not go to a restaurant and eat 90% of the food they serve there, but he is your son and the other people being there is not!!! If someone resents the fact that your son comes first....make me a favor and tell them what I think here about them.... they should accommodate to you if they cared about you, not you to them...I hope you do not really give a darn about those persons you wasted time with in the past.....do you? Loralee
  19. If a sex worker feels the need to verify that she is healthy, even if she used condoms always, (we know that Chlamydia can live in the throat of a person who was infected by a carrier) . She has the right to go to a doctor and ask to be checked even if she did not work in the sex industry. I believe clients should do the same if they want to make 100% sure they are perfectly healthy. STD's can have awful consequences in both, male and female, particularly in the reproductive capacity of a woman. The point I want to make here is that everybody having multiple partners should have the genuine, non-stigmatized desire to know that they are healthy! As Megan said, not only sex workers transmit diseases, they were infected by some male before they became carriers.....If prostitution laws change (?) everybody should be visiting clinics and having pee tests, vaginal swabs and throat swabs....it is a matter of caring for others and for oneself! We sex workers are not the problem! It is deeper than a scratch in the surface! LoraL.
  20. here http://www.visioncritical.com/wp-con...ostitution.pdf Very very very interesting for those who like to read.... LoraL
  21. Sorry Mod, it happens in the best of families. We all appreciate your hard work!!! and the best part is that you fixed it!!!!!! Thanks:bowdown: LoraL;)
  22. IRVINE, Calif. -- Attorney Steven Eggleston was suspicious when his boss pressed him to attend a weekend male retreat, but refused to tell him what would be happening there, saying participants were sworn to secrecy. So he did a Google search and found out why. Men would be holding hands and walking naked, blindfolded, through a forest. Then they would sit nude in groups of 30 to 50, passing around a wooden dildo and giving lurid details of their sexual history. Eggleston said he found out that the men will grab each other's penises if they wish. Eggleston didn't like what he read and refused the invitation. Now he's suing the firm and his bosses, saying he was badgered, yelled at and ultimately had his pay slashed to zero for not attending the retreat, held at a Santa Barbara, Calif., mountain campground and sponsored by the ManKind Project, according to a lawsuit filed in Orange County Superior Court. The suit has sparked quite a bit of conversation in Southern California. "This whole thing is very sick!" exclaimed Los Angeles radio talk show host John Kobylt of KFI640. Kobylt interviewed one of the organizers of "The New Warrior Training Adventure" this week. "What's the point of this?" Kobylt asked organizer Marshall Krupp. "I'm a lawyer and I'm trying to settle cases. Why do I have to talk about my sex life, my abuses? Why do I have to sit naked, pass around a wooden dildo? What does that have to do with anything?" Krupp said the men shouldn't be grabbing one another and are told that sexual activity isn't allowed. "The weekend is about giving men an opportunity to look at what's not working and working in their lives, to become better men of the world, better men with their families and their children," Krupp said. "Well, how can you become a better man," Kobylt asked, "sitting naked on a tree stump?" That's apparently what Eggleston wanted to know. "I talked to other attorneys who went on the retreat, so it's the real thing," Eggleston, now with a new firm, told AOL News. "After everything I read about this, I didn't want to go." Approached by Supervisor Eggleston said he was approached by his supervisor, attorney John Bisnar, shortly after he started his job in July 2009. Bisnar asked if Eggleston would go to an upcoming retreat, saying, "I can't tell you that you have to go as a requirement of your employment, but Steve, you really need to go to this," according to the complaint. During Eggleston's Google search, he found out that the family of a Texas man sued ManKind Project after the man committed suicide following a similar retreat, the complaint said. The case settled out of court. "That is what scared me," Eggleston told AOL News. Eggleston said he was under the impression that Bisnar would be attending the event, and he didn't want to sit naked discussing his sex life with his boss or have any inappropriate touching "It's a salacious lawsuit, it's bogus. It really is," said Brian Chase, a partner in Eggleston's old law firm, Bisnar Chase, and a defendant in the lawsuit. "I've never gone to this event, I haven't been retaliated against, and now I own half the law firm." Chase said the retreat is one of many options, such as Tony Robbins seminars or Deepak Chopra books, offered to employees for their personal and professional development. He said he didn't know any of the details surrounding nudity because he hasn't gone to the event. "A Modern Male Initiation" ManKind Project's website says the adventures are "a modern male initiation and self-examination. We believe that this is crucial to the development of a healthy and mature male self, no matter how old a man is. " It also says, "You will see men mentor other men, support each other, play together and form a safe, authentic container where men are free to be exactly who they are, without defenses or masks. "During your training you will stand shoulder to shoulder with an immensely rich mix of masculinity, with occupations and ages as wide as masculinity itself." Eggleston said in the complaint that he was contacted several times by ManKind Project officials who tried to convince him to attend the event. Part of his research revealed that attendees are told to carpool so they would not be able to leave the event once they got there. Krupp said the men were told to carpool in groups for their "safety." He also confirmed the nude walks and sit-downs with the dildo. "There is what we call a talking stick," Krupp told KFI640. "It is a representation of a man's penis, and it actually gives a man permission to speak should he want to speak. He can choose to pass it on to the next man and not speak." The complaint also says that "one Internet report stated that a supervisor told attendees that they could place their hand on the penis of the man next to them," the complaint said "This sounds creepy," Kobylt said on KFI640. The men are not required to disrobe and are not forced to stay at the event if they want to leave, according to Krupp. Lawyer Says His Pay Was Cut After he refused to attend the first retreat, Eggleston said, his pay was cut. Months later, he refused to attend a second retreat, and his pay was slashed to zero. He quit after eight months, leaving behind cases that should have resulted in commissions, the complaint said. Instead, commissions have been withheld, essentially giving him zero net pay for his entire tenure, said his lawyer, Kathleen Hartman. The lawsuit, filed Aug. 31, alleges 13 causes of action, including sexual harassment, retaliation, fraudulent concealment and infliction of emotional distress. Defendant Chase told AOL News that Eggleston was not a regular employee per se, but rather given a loan that had to be repaid after six months. "Because this group has a nudity angle, he filed a lawsuit to extort money out of me," said Chase, who handles personal-injury cases. "At the end of a six-month period, he owed me $50,000. So what did he do? He quit." As for Kobylt, it's a safe bet he won't be taking Krupp up on his offer to attend the next seminar, on Nov. 5. "I know if I was in Steven Eggleston's shoes and I know if I read about this cockamamie naked camp up in Santa Barbara, I'm not going," Kobylt yelled. "I don't want to see naked guys, I don't want to see naked guys looking at naked me, I don't want to share my sexual experiences, I don't want to hold the naked dildo!" See Eggleston's lawsuit.
  23. CONGRATS ANGELA.......I always enjoy your posts....DO NOT STOP THEM!!!! LoraLee
  24. VVi/The CAV Joint Veteran Support Programs VeteranVoice.info and The CAV Motorcycle Units have developed a joint program in aid to veterans in need. The programs are developed for the Internet environment, including user-friendly database access and data search capability. This joint program includes Veteran Aid program and Professional Services programs: Veteran Aid Program Veteran Aide is an outreach program that veterans-in-need can contact other volunteer veterans. Veterans-in-need will be able to view a database, select a volunteer veteran that may have had similar experience, disability, or wound, either in the same locality or far across the country. The idea is to assist the veteran-in-need in getting the help they may require, including: Directing the veteran-in-need to the proper approving authorities. Directing the veteran-in-need to the appropriate professional options. Being there as listening support for the veteran-in-need. Professional Services Program Professional Services lists services recommended by other veterans: Medical Professional Services, includes veteran friendly medical services of all natures, physical to mental health issues, rehab, follow-up, etc. Legal Services, for those veterans that require legal representation in challenging VAC determinations, submitting claims against the Federal Government, ensuring your service-related injuries and wounds are justifiably compensated, etc. Job Opportunities, includes links to specific job search forms, as well as job positions that are available. To make these programs work, there is a need for many veterans to come forward and volunteer their own services and to supply noted services. Remember, you are not a professional. You cannot give professional advise, be it medical or legal. However, you can be there assist your less fortunate veteran peers.
