Well, it all depends. IMO if you are stepping on your principles for an handful of dollars, I get the idea of what kind of person you are. It also means, IMO, that this person have no integrity. Doing something solely for money is never a good thing.
Right now I have stepped over my morals and my principles for a really good pay to achieve my dream and I regret it deeply. I change the person I was and now I am just trying to be the person I was back then. You understand further down the road that your choices at that time were the wrong ones even if at that moment they were the good ones.
You need to stay true to yourself in everything you do, if not you are lying to yourself and you will never be able to achieve anything... even with degrees >XD
