How to quit swearing
Phaedrus replied to Cara Silver's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
I do precisely the opposite. I swear all the time, and more-so when I'm pissed off. But if you ever see me stop swearing and get to the very polite stage... run :) -
Boat Is Sold...Maybe
Phaedrus replied to roamingguy's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
So you're selling your boat to pay off your debts, and selling it to someone who's taking out a loan to buy it? The irony amuses me... although I'm firmly on the side of fiscal responsibility. Save up for a bit, and you can probably buy it back off him :) -
Which was, of course, poking fun at Catholics. And so a song from someone who is a Catholic, but has had issues with it... Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUiTQvT0W_0 (edit: okay, too late, but it's a good song so I'm leaving it :) )

Any Metalheads in the vicinity?

...and Paul Stanley would agree with you. They played Bluesfest a couple of years ago; I remember PS telling the kids who were trying to start a mosh-pit exactly what he thought of them... -
Strapon Indroduction for a Newbie
Phaedrus replied to PhantomKnight's topic in Ottawa Discussion - BDSM, Fetish etc.
I believe there are quite a few around who offer this. If you're interested in hearing from them, it might be worth saying so - sending unsolicited PMs can get people into trouble, but if you solicit them... ;) First time, and going straight to a strap-on? You're a braver man than I :) Although I'm sure many ladies have a range of toys with which to get you nicely warmed up... -

File under "Doing yourselves no favours". http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10820152 More than 40 parking sign poles have been destroyed by prostitutes in south Auckland who are using them as dancing poles. The revelation comes in a booklet put out by the Auckland Council asking for legislation to control street prostitution. Hunters Corner and central Papatoetoe business district manager Donna Lee says the poles are part of their soliciting equipment. She says some prostitutes are big, strong people and often snap the poles. Ms Lee says business people don't complain anymore but just get on with cleaning up their properties after the prostitutes have been there. She says that includes condoms, alcohol, other drugs and defecation.

I'd have thought that if the chemistry was that good, the client would feel it too, and come again un-prompted :)

Any Metalheads in the vicinity?
Phaedrus replied to a topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Yes, there are... although sadly aging, in my case! Alas, I'm far too old for the mosh-pit these days, and I've been woefully lax on the discovery of new bands in the last few years. Much of my taste derives from the periods of the 80s and 90s when I was... younger. -
Some thoughts, in no particular order. Firstly, people come and go all the time. That's the nature of the beast. And when people leave, they don't all go the same way, or for the same reasons. Some simply fade away, either by accident or design; some go cold turkey and quit suddenly. Some like to go out with a bang; some take the time to bid the rest farewell; and some simply exit as quietly as possible. Some want ensure it's hard to come back; some wish to leave the door ajar. All of this is really a personal choice, and I think it's up to us to simply accept and respect the choices that people choose to make. People leave for all sorts of reasons, too. Perhaps they just got bored. Perhaps circumstances changed, or they no longer like the way things are. Some get the boot. Some choose to share their reasons, some don't, some may give some reasons and not others... and, perhaps, some can't say anything at all. When all's said and done, I see little benefit in second-guessing people's reasons for leaving. It's nice when people choose to discuss those reasons - especially the people I care about - but I'm not going to spend a great deal of time speculating on the unknown. Of course, while everyone who leaves is a loss to the community, that community is constantly reinforced by new arrivals, too. There are now-absent voices that I miss, and there are those I never heard... but there are also newer arrivals who add huge value, depth, wisdom, empathy, sexiness, fun and downright silliness to our discussions. On the nature of the discussions we have here: I think there's a very fine balance between the suppression of legitimate, mutually respectful debate, and the suppression of unpleasantness, and I think it's well-nigh impossible for any forum to hit that balance all the time. In fact, given the existence of people who react badly to having their opinions challenged (not pointing fingers, just saying they exist), it may well be impossible to find it at all! And that's before you even begin to consider that many of us might consider the right place for that balance to be in radically different places. All in all, I think Mod makes a pretty good fist of a clearly impossible job. It should also be said that in general, people who don't like the way things are run here - or anywhere else, for that matter - will simply leave. We've had people leave CERB because they didn't like the way the board is run; some because they felt muzzled, some because they felt it was hostile. And I've heard people speak here of other boards that they've left, for similar reasons.

new here, thought I would say hello...
Phaedrus replied to MzBehave's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Welcome! And I'm sure you'll have fun here... most of us seem to :) -
Things have changed, and are possibly continuing to change. Mod is tweaking the settings with rep points (the old system had got a bit out of hand, and everyone was racking up rep points too fast), but it's a bit of a trial-and-error kind of process so more minor changes like this may happen in future.

Advice on/about blogs
Phaedrus replied to Nathalie L's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
...in no particular order. First up: if you're going to blog, I'd strongly suggest that you do so regularly. That doesn't mean that you have to post every day, or even every week... but if people come back to see nothing new too often, they'll just stop coming back. If you're going to take a planned break, leave a post to say when you'll be back (and then make sure you start posting again when you said you would). And remember the cynic's golden rule: if at first you don't succeed... destroy all evidence that you tried. :) Seriously, there's nothing sadder than a link to "my blog" that's been abandoned after half a dozen posts, the last of which was months or years ago. On the "would I read it" question... yes, I'd absolutely read an interesting blog by someone I knew from CERB! Although I must admit that I don't particularly go looking for them, and there are quite possibly some gems out there that I'm unaware of (like yours, Nathalie), so ladies: maybe adding a link to it in your post sig or on your profile would be an idea? I've read blogs by various sex workers in the past, although I don't read any at the moment - and the ones I used to read were primarily because they were good blogs by people with interesting things to say, rather than the fact that they were about sex work. I still read quite a few blogs - some are daily visits - but they're in other areas of life. As for what to post... well, yes, it depends. How much of yourself do you wish to reveal? Is this really a personal thing, or part of your overall marketing? How do you want to come across to readers: do you want to stick to positive/interesting stuff, or are you going to be melancholy and/or negative if you feel like it? And if so, does that just make you a more well-rounded and realistic person, or does it imply a "take me as I am, or not at all" attitude to potential clients? If you really get into it, perhaps you should have a "professional" blog on your website and run another blog under a different pseudonym for the stuff that doesn't gel with the image you wish to present to current and potential visitors? Of course, there's no "right" answer to any of this; it depends hugely on who you (really) are, how much of that you wish to project in your SP alter ego, and how you wish yourself to be perceived. -
