  1. I don't like that, and I'll go to some effort to avoid seeing a filmed version of a book that I'd like to read. I prefer to read the book first and develop my own idea of what locations and characters look and sound like. If I see someone else's vision of it first, I find I can never get past that and form my own...
  2. For the Islay lovers, Caol Ila and Ardbeg are both also very good. And I'd second Cato on the Talisker. My current favorite is my bottle of 12yo Auchentoshan... but not for long, 'cos it's nearly done, alas...
  3. Ya, he's hard work. I sometimes wonder whether he's showing off with his verbal gymnastics, or whether it just doesn't occur to him that most people simply won't have the same vocabulary as him (and also if the original Italian is as bad). I've got 'Baudolino' sitting in my to-read pile at the moment, and I keep overlooking it in favor of something easier...
  4. Thanks for the wirite-up, WIT. So - IANAL, and I'm now rather confused. Does this mean that "normal" SC activities in QC are still a legal grey area, pending some decision on what constitutes "sexual services" and what doesn't? Is there any chance we could get a lady to give a guy an ever-escalating lapdance in court (preferably the Supreme Court), and have the judges press a button when they thought it had reached the illegal stage - and then have each one write a formal justification of why they hit the button when they did (including an analysis of why they didn't hit it any earlier)? Ya, I know, there's no chance at all, but I think it's a nice idea :)
  5. If you haven't already, and assuming they agree, it may be worth telling the mod who they are so they can go on the DNR list.
  6. Definitely second Neil Gaiman. If you haven't already, and you want a very funny book about the apocalypse, read Good Omens, which he co-wrote with Terry Pratchet. And on the subject of Terry Pratchet, I'd recommend him to almost anyone. Additional Comments: Yes, it is.
  7. One other great thing about bartering... the taxman generally doesn't get a cut :) Yes, I suspect there's technically some rules about payment in kind or somesuch, but can't imagine they'd be worth the hassle of enforcing. I may be wrong, or course.
  8. Try tools -> options -> privacy and make sure 'Remember search and form history' is unchecked. This will stop it happening in future. To remove what it's remembered now, I *think* you can: - Go to gmail - click in the username bit - press the down arrow to bring up a list of usernames, and again until yours is highlighted - hit delete (or possibly shift-delete if you have a very old FF version) I haven't tried the second bit, 'cos I did the first a very long time ago :)
  9. Thread hijack! But yes, she did - she's indy now.
  10. Do I get extra points for the Star Wars reference?
  11. To give you a couple of specific recommendations... Megan and Jessica are both fantastic and in the area. They both post schedules quite regularly.
  12. A question for (and on behalf of) the paranoid: are there hosting services that don't keep logs at all? After all, what doesn't exist can't be subpoena'd...
  13. Aaaand.... there's another issue! I'd always assumed that if someone has a reco thread already, then that means that a) they're OK with recommendations in general, and b) they won't mind if I post my own, assuming it's complimentary (which it always would be, or it wouldn't be a reco, would it :) ? Have I screwed up here? Should I be asking ladies if they mind my posting a reco, even if they have a well-established reco thread? (I should probably mention that if there's no established thread I'd *always* ask first, since that may indicate that someone doesn't want reviews. I'm talking about people for whom recommendations already exist here.)
  14. I'm speculating somewhat here... but I do get the feeling there's more of this going on than most of us would care to admit to. Seriously, guys, we're not insecure fifteen-year-olds any more. Nobody is going to judge you on the basis of who you had a good time with, or what you did while having a good time with them. At least, not here. They might on other boards, but not here, from what I've seen.

  16. How do you give someone a rash by PM? Enquiring minds would like to know... :)
  17. I'm in the same boat - I've never written a lengthy blow-by-blow report, and I very much doubt I ever will. And I'm sure we're not the only ones. But at the end of the day, for me, the most important bit of information is "I saw X, and it was great, so you should too." All else is icing on the cake.
  18. U gives cheezburgers wiv appointmentz? Ya, LOLcats are a guilty pleasure. I don't usually own up to it...
  19. As far as I'm concerned, the only sensible answer to this question is "whatever you (the SP) are comfortable with". Sure, we hobbyists may have a preference - and some may even go so far as to avoid SPs with the 'wrong' sort of incall - but that's their loss. And it sounds like for every one who'd prefer you had other arrangements, another will like the choice you've made. You can't please everyone all the time, and I think it'd be foolish to try. What *really* matters is that *you* are happy with the arrangements you make and feel safe and secure there. If that means the comfort and familiarity of your own home, that's great (and as others have said, I'd be seriously flattered that you trust me - a relative stranger - to that extent). If that means the relative anonymity of a hotel room, that's great too.
  20. A half-century? This landmark needs a haiku Happy birthday, sir!
  21. Many thanks for the comments, all! It's good to know what other people feel about this sort of thing. Clearly I'll have to get scribbling more often than I have done in the past!
