  1. It would be nice to think that the police were completely up to speed on the laws they enforce... but they're only human, and they don't know everything off by heart. And that's ignoring the possibility that they may knowingly make stuff up if they think they can get away with it. Most members of the public know far less about the law than the police.
  2. Donald Trump is the natural conclusion of where the GOP has been going for the last decade. What really amuses me is the career politicians who would love to come out with the same stuff as he does, but dare not.
  3. Well, if you subscribe to the panspermia theory, that answers the original question too :)
  4. Teaching kids about consent and related issues is an excellent thing for schools to be doing. I don't think anyone would dispute that. The problem is that there's no idea that's so good that it can't be turned into something horrible by zealots, and it sounds like a small minority from the "all men are rapists" school of feminism are making a good attempt at fucking up this one.
  5. Okay, I'm going to buck the trend. I don't care all that much about background music. If it's on, I tend to forget about it after a while; if it's not there, the lack of it doesn't bother me. At least, not at a conscious level. The subconscious is another matter entirely, and I have no clue what's going on there :)
  6. Why are you asking? And do you honestly think anyone who does would be so indiscreet as to reply?
  7. Recriminations all round, I'm sure :) I think that's exactly what he's saying. The person who turned up was not as advertized... and given that he's married to her, he should know :)
  8. For those who, like me, hadn't noticed it. https://www.lyla.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=370 h/t RG :)
  9. Yep. This. I can't think of anywhere in Ottawa that's much more than a half-hour drive from anywhere else, in reasonable traffic (unreasonable traffic and construction are another matter entirely :) OK, so there are some things you can't really do (I don't think I've ever had a meeting at 4pm with anybody) but really, we have nothing to whine about. As far as I'm concerned, if I want to see someone in town then I'll go see her. Time and money and opportunity are issues; distance is not.
  10. We need more MAs everywhere. Problem solved :)

  12. I think there's a big difference between "Available?" being the start of the message, and the entirety of the message. The latter seems to be what causes annoyance.
  13. I'm pretty sure that providing you have the "http://" on the front, the board software will recognize it as a link. But in any case, you can also use the button when composing a post.
  14. It has only been a couple of days since the cancellation was announced. Bear in mind that the people who organize the socials do so entirely voluntarily, get pretty much nothing in return, and have jobs and other things going on in their lives. If they decide that they can't be bothered any more, we'll all be much the poorer for it. The fact that they've just put a lot of time and effort into organizing an event that not enough people can go to - despite the fact that some folks had been explicitly asking for it - is hardly going to be encouraging for them. Giving them shit over the refunds this soon - and publicly, at that - is probably not going to help.
  15. Sure you can have a rebate! But you have to pay for the whole two years up front to get it... :)
  16. A lot depends on whether or not they've learned from the mistakes they made during the first Northern Spotlight. If they're up-front about who they are and why they're getting in touch, and if they're a bit smart about who they contact (independent ladies who are involved in pro-Sex Work activist groups are probably not victims of trafficking), then perhaps this might be OK. I haven't heard much about this iteration of it. It seems to have been a bit better at identifying people who really need help than previous ones, although that's not exactly a high bar. Also: article is at http://www.netnewsledger.com/2015/06/25/operation-northern-spotlight-thunder-bay-police-help-suppress-human-trafficking/ (original link is broken).
  17. Finally made it back to see Mandy recently, after too long. But it took no time at all to reconnect, and everything was as fantastic as always. You don't need me to spell it out for you if you've already read the rest of this thread. There's a reason she has so many recommendations.
  18. Kaydence Kox is tall, if you can catch her when she visits. I've only met her at Socials, though. Reco thread at https://www.lyla.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?ltr=K&t=132798.
  19. Nice business you've got there. Be a shame if anything happened to it, wouldn't it? Seriously, are these people supposed to be the government, or are they just the Mob?
  20. I fail to see the problem here. It sounds like there's a definite type of woman you like, and... hey, you found another one! Good for you! I don't think it's weird at all.
  21. That, of course, assumes that the slower traffic was keeping right in the first place... and if there's room for people to overtake you on the right, it's a pretty solid indication that you weren't. Same goes for cars on the highway. If you don't want to drive on the right, please don't complain about other, faster traffic doing so :)
  22. Remember, Facebook makes money by selling you to advertizers. It does not give a shit about you or your well-being. FWIW, I use Tor for all my Phaedrus-related activities. This has the great benefit of being pretty good at preventing this sort of cross-contamination... at least, I haven't been bitten yet...
  23. I'd met Anna briefly at one of the socials, but unfortunately things hadn't worked out in terms of meeting up since then. Fortunately, things were much better for her recent visit to Ottawa. So, time to renew our acquaintance... I received and enthusiastic greeting at the door, and we settled down with a glass of wine to get to know each other a little better. I could quite happily have carried on the conversation all night, but before too long it was time to move on to other things and sample other delights that were on offer. Anna loves to give as well as receive, and she was very attentive to what I wanted to get up to during our time together. Details will have to remain decently obscure, but suffice to say I had a fantastic time, and left with a spring in my step that hadn't been there when I arrived. And now, I just have to hope that her next visit coincides with me being able to take advantage of it. Otherwise, I'm going to end up driving to Kingston... :)
  24. I finally managed to get to see Cali on a recent visit to Vibe. I'd met her very briefly when she opened the door when I was visiting someone else... and it was definitely good to get better acquainted. The conversation flowed easily (except when I found it hard to concentrate due to... distractions). The shower was fun, the massage hit all the spots that needed hitting and teased all the spots that needed teasing, and things ended up with all the fun you'd expect. Definitely someone to see again!
