Maybe it's because Indy's have less on their mind. No complicated bosses or coworkers. So when you go see an Indy it's about you and her..not you, her, the boss the coworker that's mad that you took her client, having to give a lot of this money to the boss..Just you and her. Working for myself was so much more rewarding being able to call the shots and see who I want to see. Some places don't let you refuse a client. Most clients here you can get to know a bit about ahead of time, find out their likes and dislikes, what they are looking for and same with the clients..Their must be a certain level of excitement and anticipation that you get seeing an Indy VS seeing an agency, having ironed out all the details in advance, spoke to her and got to know her a bit ahead of time.

A very early memory for me was at some sort of war veteran home or old age facility, my Uncle worked there.. I remember men, broken, missing limbs or hands, scars on their faces and heads. I remember feeling frightened. Not that these men scared me and I did not understand a thing, but as a child, that's how I felt. I can't imagine what these men felt going through what they did and loosing so much of themselves for me and you because to be honest, if there was a draft tomorrow- I'd flee, a coward.

I don't think it was meant as harm. I realize this thread might hit home for many, as it should. Many soldiers dedicate years serving and protecting this Country, unlike my job that may not define me, being a soldier is who you are. When someone has ill will about my profession or say hurtful words, I shrug it off since this is not me, but a soldier...It's a personal insult and no, comments like these shouldn't be here on this thread, but for those that have lived, loved, lost and protected us selflessly it may not be helped to have such strong feelings. Let's all be friends k? let's all try to understand that it's a very touchy subject and we should respect everyone's opinions..But you said it best, it can ruin a good thing.

Well then Thank Goodness for them. That's what makes them even the more so courageous, daring, HEROIC and hard-as-nails! They went so we didn't have to so we can be free. Let's leave politics behind us for this thread shall we?

I'm telling you coffee sucks! Coffee means "you're not important enough to bring you to supper" Only the men gave you the advice to ask her for coffee. Unless the ladies are in the industry they can never understand you. Woman can be jelouse of you, a lot of people have to work a whole week to make what you make in a day. If I could take it back (telling them), I would. We don't want to lie about what we do, because we want to have people that accept us for who we are..men accept me a lot more than females. It's hard to be accepted by someone that doesn't understand or have the slightest clue. I guess that's why a lot of people are close friends with their coworkers or people in the similar work. Sometimes in life, we want to just be a normal person without having our job come in the way of who we are. If I had it my way the question "what do you do" wouldn't exist.

The way I see it sometimes is like this.. If they are too stupid to see their mistake, then they aren't worth your breath since they won't listen or follow the guidance(Unless they asked for it). If my friend decided that she/he was going to jump off a building or do life threatening crap then I might tie them to a chair until they came around, out of love, of course. Unless that happens, my conversation would go something like this.. Friend "Hi Julia, today my boss came up with this idea to clean to pass time, can you believe it? Me clean, who does he think he is..so I took the afternoon off!" Me "That bastard how could he? You clean? geeze doesn't he know you have a maid for those things?, so how was your afternoon off"? Tada- end of story and potential bitch fest from my friend, I've been married too long to bother to argue

Well wasn't that nice to leave his coworkers behind to clean up his mess. I know everyone here so far has decided what he should have done and it's true. As his friend it's best to just support his decisions and try to see it his way, stay bias to his view. No matter how dumb our choices seem, a good friend has your back..unless it will seriously harm a friend I pretty much check my opinions at the door. Some things I would find insulting, like doing the bosses job *shudders* I'm supposed to be happy to have been intrusted with this sacred job that is supposed to be the bosses/owners..Then the boss might not have been sexed enough the night before, come in and yell at me for a poor job done when really I did it awesome. The insulting part to me is that I feel I am being taken advantage of- they leave early and give me their job and try to act like it's sacred n shit-such a privileged, people really suck that one up to me it's insulting. Do your own fucking job! Bah!

Great responses everyone!! On my side of the fence.. Many of you already know I married a client. Several issues have come up in our relationship that makes me feel uncomfortable. My husband, being the honest man that he is...When asked what I do he told them I was a masseuse and they knew what kind of masseuse(I guess men just know these things) A few of his friends and co workers advised him to break it off and that I was using him for money-pressure to dissolve our relationship- At work functions, the wives seem to have a preconception about me that because of my job and gave me the cold shoulder, like I must be a hoochie..One even yelled at me because I told her husband that he makes a good steak and accused me of hitting on him as if I were recruiting new clients geesh! "Can't you see what she's doing"? She yelled! I feel isolated at times times because I don't attend such things anymore. My husband lost a few friends because of what I do, but that's probably a blessing in disguise because a true friend wouldn't go out their way to try to make your life miserable..Once it felt like I was Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman..One of his co-workers even approached me for services and when I denied him he got all freaky on me. Okay so these may be isolated events and most likely and hopefully not the norm for everyone..But it makes me want to pack up and leave the city, leave my job and roots behind me to love each other in peace without judgement or preconceptions..leave the worry and stigma behind us. love is love.A person is a person..It's not what you do, it's who you are.
