  1. I'm so done with federal/provincial/municipal politics! I'm probably going to vote, but I will likely vote for "the lesser of the evils". Actually, this is a shame that many voters end up voting like this. Our system sucks! Including our electoral system! I virtually disagree with everything any of the running politicians have to say (my ideological views are quite marginalized in this country/system). Given that so many of us are frustrated with these people walking around in suits on Parliament Hill who take a 3 month Christmas vacation while our country is in the shits, people should really seek other outlets in their own communities in which they can contribute to political change-through your community first. I'm talking about neighbourhood council type things, volunteering and making decisions at local community organizations etc. etc. A better system is possible. Too many of us have given up hope because this system is one that makes us feel powerless and doesn't let people decide what is best for them. Hopefully this makes sense as I'm kind of sleepy today. *And end rant* xoxo Sky
  2. I agree, I'll be the first one to say that Partisan politics isn't the way to go to create social change. I don't follow them much, but I do know that Harper is a tool and Iggy is the same thing. Just thought it was funny and posted it. Grassroots politics is the way to go! Sky
  3. You know you're a loser when you try to impersonate CERB's top poster. Love to you, Pete! Sky
  4. As for me, I'm with Megan on this one. It's none of my partner's business as to what I choose to do with my own body. It's mine, not their's. Sky
  5. I'm going to chime in and say that I live to fight for a better world till the day I die. There is way too much effed up sh** in this world. Alongside this, the people who I interact with on a daily basis (my community members, co-organizers and friends) make my life the best it has ever been! Also: --food --dancing --laughing --and this job, because I make people happy, they make me happy and the kinds of relationships created, whether they last during a session or on a more long term basis, are definitely something that brightens up my day. Sky
  6. In regards to how much notice we need, I would say that the more notice the better. While some of us have policies around notice (i.e. some don't take bookings with new clients with less than a 24 hour notice) because it's more conducive to our lifestyles and business styles, we are aware that sometimes giving this much notice is not possible. Each SP has her/their own guidelines so it is a good idea to do some research about a particular one that catches your eye! xoxo Sky
  7. No, they were strip searched later. And the location was chosen because of its visibility. And all of the information I just stated was not reported by the media, rather it was I who was there and saw/heard later on that these things happened, and so this specific incident does not concern the validity of the media's reporting other than the fact that the article had very little detail. I do agree that the media is usually super biased and does not cover the whole story.
  8. Interesting, I was there and the police were screaming at the banner droppers "get down for your own safety" (which is ironic because if they were actually concerned about their safety they wouldn't scream and intimidate them as a means to get down as they were standing on quite a thin bridge ). Following this, the officers arrested the two banner droppers and then proceeded to strip search one of them (for their safety?). I realize that you could not have possibly known these details from the article, but I thought I'd add a little more detail for perspective. Regardless of the details of this specific incident, the point I was trying to make by posting all the articles was that this seems to be an ongoing pattern of police violence/misconduct against the public. For many of us, these incidents do not abide to our everyday realities but it is also worth mentioning that certain populations are surveilled far more than others, street sex workers being one group which is why I posted the POWER report "Challenges".
  9. I've had so many live sex toy demos in my classes!!!
  10. The vast majority of the articles are from the past year. The one about the banner drop is to make the point that the police decided to use their discretion (seeing as banner drops aren't clearly defined as crimes and that the mischief charge can virtually be applied to anything [a bunch of my friends were charged with this for simply marching in rally once]) to arrest people who were publicly speaking out against the police. I realize the article does not provide the reader with much detail but that is what is to be made of this article as part of a longer list of articles on police misconduct and harassment of the public. While I am extra weary of the validity of mainstream media articles, I am also starting to notice how quick the general public is to defend the police as opposed to cases in which members of the public are being charged with offenses. I do a lot of anti-police brutality work and I am shocked over and over again at how common police brutality/misconduct actually is.
  11. Sorry, I meant this *school* year. And in the *last* year, meaning March- March kind of thing.
  12. No but the police are not innocent when it comes to things like this: http://www.powerottawa.ca/POWER_Report_Challenges.pdf
  13. I hope that the Ottawa police has lost the public's trust that it never deserved. It's one thing after the other this year. http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/Ottawa+woman+files+lawsuit+alleging+mistreatment+hands+Ottawa+police/3902052/story.html http://www.ottawacitizen.com/story_print.html?id=3898089&sponsor http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/Chief+fails+defuse+drivers+anger/3875705/story.html http://www.xtra.ca/public/Ottawa/Ottawa_Police_chief_will_decide_whether_info_is_released_in_future_HIV_cases-9448.aspx http://www.cbc.ca/canada/ottawa/story/2010/11/19/ottawa-hiv-status-police-review.html#ixzz168vhuhbr http://www.ottawacitizen.com/city+outraged/3852404/story.html http://www.thestar.com/news/article/882189--are-these-cops-above-the-law http://www.ottawasun.com/news/ottawa/2010/11/19/16219531.html http://www.xtra.ca/public/National/Two_arrested_at_Trans_Day_of_Remembrance_in_Ottawa-9459.aspx http://www.ottawacitizen.com/Strip+search+police+cell+travesty+judge+rules/3839408/story.html http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/city/story.html?id=92f9f5ca-cfe5-414c-b6ee-63dd2fbb88e2 http://www.ottawamenscentre.com/news/20040827_ottawa_cop_sentenced.htm http://www.cbc.ca/canada/ottawa/story/2007/02/19/shoplift.html http://ottawa.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20101120/OTT_trans_arrests_101120/20101120/?hub=OttawaHome http://noii-ottawa.blogspot.com/2010/11/statement-on-ottawa-police.html
  14. So I have a confession, I really didn't read the opening comment to this post because I am super tired right now but I do have something to say about monogamy/polyamory. From about this past August-October I was in two committed relationships with two men who knew about each other and consented to the polyamory. I found that, unlike popular misconceptions, it took a lot more commitment and effort to maintain these two relationships as it took constant communication with both partners and constantly working on filtering out the jealousy in all three of our minds. There was also a lot more consent going on in terms of sexual relationships. It was all around a wonderful experience and I've come to really appreciate how great polyamory is. xoxo Sky
  15. A lot!!!!! of people say that this is their best stress reliever! Also, as per dancing on my original post, I need to add that I am usually the most sober person in the club, and the one who dances the hardest for the longest time. Sometimes with my eyes closed and in my own world. IT'S THE BEST!!
  16. What do you do to relieve your stress and care for yourself? Lately, I've found that going out to a night club and dancing my butt off relieves so much stress and tension! I've decided to make it a weekly thing! Also, laughing my butt off works too, usually... Can't wait to hear about all of yours! Sky
  17. Haters are gunna hate! There's a movement that I am quite fond of known as the fat-positive movement which is super awesome and allows fat/big/large (whatever term you prefer) people to regain confidence and power over their own bodies: http://yrwelcome.wordpress.com/2011/02/01/why-im-fat-positive/ xoxo Stay strong! It's a messed up world out there and people all of a sudden feel all this entitlement to say things that isn't their place to do so. Sky
  18. I am so down for having more conversations about issues that affect us all. In fact, I have been surprised at all the encounters I've had with clients who want to engage in political discussions with me (perhaps due to the fact that I post on my website that I'm into political activism). Education can happen in so many ways<3 !
  19. You are beautiful. Happy bday layday! And thanks for everything you've done for me, you'll always have a dear spot in my heart. <3
  20. This is a rant about this article. Basically, it talks about how the government of Canada is planning on arguing that the government has no obligation to protect "prostitutes" (thank you media for your oh so glorious language) and that people who choose to work in this industry are essentially consenting to violence (as clearly, this is included in our job description *sarcasm*). So a few things I want to point out in this whole situation. 1. No one is asking the government to protect us. (Never mind that this whole discourse is quite paternalistic to begin with). What we are asking is for the state to not ACTIVELY PUT US IN DANGER which is exactly what is happening with the current law situation. There is a difference between protecting us (which is not what we're asking), endangering us (which is what is happening) and leaving us alone (which is what we want). Essentially, removing these laws from the criminal code will give us access to more services that are available to virtually everyone that can aid us in protecting ourselves. 2. Uhm, I'm pretty sure none of us here have chosen to be violated. This is just another variation of the "she wore a short skirt and therefore was inviting men to rape her" argument. So I won't validate this point any longer. Sexism at its finest. 3. Both of these arguments are premised on the notion of the "creepy rapist client" image that people who know nothing about this industry get. Not to mention the fact that those who are violating sex workers at the highest rates are POLICE OFFICERS and therefore we do not need their protection, but merely for them to stop harassing us. I can probably go on for a lot longer but I will save you all the agony of reading a 10 page rant and save it to respond to some of your comments. xoxox Sky
