I must agree and thank you for taking the time to speak up. This question is not off to the best start. There is no "versus" between an SP or MA. They are both completely different experiences. There's being tactful and asking questions, but I get the impression as well the question was asked for members to explain why they do visit MA's, and for MA's to justify our services and rates? I think that's up to the OP to do his research, read the recommendations, and not challenge the activity and great feedback in the massage area. If I am approached in this manner by an inquiry, I will most likely not be booking with them.

I looked at the poll as well and agree that no apology is needed. It's a delicate and fine line when people may take things out of context or read it another way. I know looking at your history that your posts are written with the most respect and integrity. I think it's human nature to send a few inquires and gather information without booking. I have had several pm's from members that say they would like to see me, but have not gotten around to it yet for their own reasons. I'm ok with a quick hello even though an appointment is not booked. I do my best to keep track of messages from members I have not met yet or others that it's been awhile with. However, I do so at my own pace as it's on personal time. Much like the retail market, window shopping happens everywhere and all we can do is our best to respond in a timely fashion, regardless of the outcome. I don't think anyone should expect to have a pen pal in this hobby unless it's rewarding to both involved.

This is a great question ElanRacer and depending on where you visit, it may vary. As Tiffany mentions, when you visit a spa the MA will show you to your room, have a friendly conversation, and leave you for a moment to get comfortable and settled in. With an independent or all inclusive spa the MA is with you for everything as Pete mentioned above. It all varies depending on what you are most comfortable with and please don't be shy to just ask your MA.

If I may add as well to these questions? Once a client pays the door fee, the options he requests may be tiered as Whiteman mentioned earlier in this thread. Spa's that have a door fee allow the client to choose which options he is looking for. Not everyone will choose all of the options an independent or an all inclusive establishment offer. It's important to do a little research before and to tip accordingly. A misinformed client may assume that the door fee is all that's required and tip what they feel is fair. This may lead to misunderstanding and the MA left short.

The $100 tip, plus door fee is comparable to what most independent MA's or an all inclusive spa charge for a complete massage experience. I suggest clearing the financials up right away with your MA, just like you would with an independent or agency before you start the session. That way you just relax and enjoy without the worry. The attendant appreciates this as well so she knows she's being compensated fairly and everyone is happy. Independent MA's and all inclusive spa's apply part of the fee's collected to keeping the business maintained, so a door fee is really no different. It's just an extra transaction.

This is a tough one as far as the having to wait in the room alone for your MA, especially if you have walked into a spa without an appointment. Most spa's unless they're all inclusive, collect a door fee and the procedure is to see the client to his room first. You're usually welcome to take a quick shower and should only be left alone for a few minutes while you wait. But things happen such as.... if you didn't make an appointment and are a walk in, often the MA needs to quickly get herself ready as well. What if the lady just had lunch and needs to quickly brush her teeth or take a few extra minutes to get ready to present herself? It's definitely more challenging for the MA to be ready to go at any given moment. Seeing as you didn't mention if this was a walk in or not, I think it's best discussed with the owner. You should have been in the room for the full 45 minutes but, if I may just add how these situations can be challenging and happen to the best of us.

Great thread! I've always been interested in plants and have planted container herb gardens on my balcony with success. I'm now growing a few basics like mint, parsley and basil from my kitchen window. I've tried the Aerogarden and it produced a very generous amount of lettuce and herbs. The unit and accessories are pricey but considering grocery store prices, I think it still works out to be more reasonable and organic. I recently added ferns, ivy's and other air cleaning plants to help improve my indoor air quality. My pride and joy right now is an orchid that's in full bloom. I may be able to help as I have offered massage to couples. If you have to convince your partner, it may lead to someone feeling out of their comfort zone and create an uncomfortable situation. My suggestion is to look through the site for providers that offer this service and have your partner decide on whom they're interested in and make contact. That way, she'll feel at ease and be a part of the communication. Usually there's more attention focused on your partner in the introduction.
