And I don't just mean more reviews and advertisers--but of course that would be welcome! I wish for a Cerb-perspective on the Montreal scene. I just find the atmosphere here so much more pleasant than the other boards that cover Montreal and Quebec City. The Green Board is like a grim prison movie: it's jam-packed with characters, but really run by couple different gangs with long scores to settle. The "guards" are swift and severe, but there's still tons of violence that gets out of hand way too fast and there's plenty of outright misogyny toward the handful of women brave enough to maintain a public presence there. The Blue Board is like a Michael Moore movie: they hate the green board and that's really all that is important. The Pink Board is in French, so it's easy to say it's like a Foreign Movie in that I'm not exactly sure what is going on, but there's likely to be some toplessness, a trip to a rustic summer home, and the villain from "Quantum of Solace will probably show up at some point. Hmm, maybe I sacrificed my metaphor for a few cheap jokes there. Anyway, for a lot of reasons Montreal is my preferred destination, but this my preferred board.

I recommend both this wonderful lady and her agency. All communication was done through e-mail, as I was traveling from over 6 hours away. Everything was very clear and prompt, and I was able book an A.M. appointment about a week beforehand to accommodate my short visit to Montreal. I found her funny and very affectionate, sweet and genuine - a very accurate description from the agency. I hope to meet with her again.

These are all great names (and I imagine some of those places have hilariously low permanent resident counts), but my original point was that Saskatoon sounds awesome AND that my classic rock-obsessed brain will never EVER be able to separate the place from the fantastically fun song!

Greetings all. I'm new to the board and figured I'd make my 5th post completely un-serious. I live in Maine, but probably know a bit more about Canada than the average American due to my love of both geography and Guess Who songs! I wonder if there is a more fun place name than Saskatoon? Every time I see that in a post or on a touring lady's schedule I have to sing "Going back to Saskatoooooonnn!" Does anyone who has actually been to Saskatoon have that problem? Is it just as fun a place as the name sounds? By comparison Skowhegan, Maine actually SMELLS just as bad as the name sounds because of the paper mills.

I'm no blues expert (did my avatar give that away!), but I play guitar and read a lot of guitar magazines. As noted earlier, there's a lot that can fall under the category of "Blues." I'd say the music in Black Snake Moan is more "Delta Blues" with a rough, earnest, rural sound. Usually solo acoustic or smaller ensembles, often with a slide guitar and/or harmonica (both of which give it that slurring sound). This was the origin of the Blues and starts with Robert Johnson. Chicago Blues was the next evolution, as those musicians moved to the city, joined bigger groups and got electrified. Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, etc. These would be classics from Chess Records recorded in the 50's 60s. Most Classic Rock "borrows" heavily from these two threads. Clapton, Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, etc. Their albums are full of straight blues covers. Cream's "Crossroads" was originally a Robert Johnson song. ZZ Tops' "La Grange" is basically the most standard 12-bar blues format. Other examples abound of blues covers, 12-bar blues format songs, and tons of pentatonic riffing (pentatonic being one of the most common/popular blues scales). As for more modern Blues players SRV is, of course, legendary for his brash, stinging tone and ferocious playing. You cannot go wrong with the Allman Brothers/ Warren Haynes/ Gov't Mule/ Derek Trucks "family." And, I agree, Joe Bonamassa is amazing. But none of those players are going to sound like the raw blues on the movie soundtrack.
