It has crossed my mind also. At the same time, it gave us the opportunity to share our thoughts on the purpose of CERB and what it does in our lives. And I am happy to see that members of this community shared their views in an balance manner, each from their point of view.

I will never put a blame on CERB for anything that could happen to me in regard of this hobby. The first moment I became aware of CERB, I had no clue about what it was, if it was a "hobby" or if it was a 'lifestyle', and curiosity was my main motivation. After a while, it became far more than that, and I chose not only to become an active hobbyist, but to bring my contribution to this community in which I share some values. For sure, it's a kind of an "extreme sport" with all the risks related to such activities: confidentiality, professional reputation, eventual consequences on the family and the SO, money, etc. But that's a choice I made, and I assume the responsibilities of doing this activity. It's like everything in life, don't blame your skis for your broken leg, don't blame CERB for your broken marriage. Trouble in life is always a bad thing, and we all try to manage our life to avoid or to lessen the bad consequences of what we do; but consequences happen and we have to deal with them, that's life. Now, if we want to discuss the risks of this hobby, or for the SPs and MAs, the risks of this business, we could begin another thread, but I consider that we are all adults and we choose to be in this community for personal and professional reasons, but overall it is a free choice. It is too bad that our friend had consequences on his personal life and I hope he will find a way to find harmony and peace.

I know this one was put back on another thread, but here it is... again, but it's worth looking. Look at some smiles, they worth a million dollars. Why not a Christmas tradition ?

Money is a easy way out, but it's not very creative. A bottle of wine is nice. Once, after I verified with the SP, I brought some fresh oysters and a bottle of white wine, and we shared. A gift certificate is also very appreciated. Specially during this Christmas time.

Just to add something from my personal point of view: Offering a gift is a personal decision from the hobbyist, and most of the time, if not everytime, the SP appreciates it. For me, it is something that comes from me, a free gesture, and I dont have any expectations from it. It is only the pleasure to please somebody that I find pleasant. Period. At the end, if the SP appreciates it, I am happy and the encounters, actual and future, will only be improved in depth. But that's only my opinion.

There are a lot of cash businesses, and many are very legit. Cash is, after all, the legal way to pay, isn't it? What CRA ask is that we declare our income and pay whatever taxes we owe them. What is asked most of the time, for credit purposes, is your capacity to earn income, and the level of income you generate. Self employed entertainers or freelance professionals are common.

For sure, discretion is key, and with this hobby, we have to take measures to protect that discretion: cell phone, email addreses, and alias. For one, someone indiscret shared my cerb handle and put me in a very difficult position. Unfortunatly, we must keep private this hobby to protect ourselves and to protect the ladies that we meet. This is the rules of society now. Hopefully, it will evolve and considered, in the future,( but when ?) that this hobby is a normal and honorable activity that could be considered as socially acceptable.
