  1. I figured you can't go wrong with Russian kids show characters. That is unless you're going up against Pingu coz that mofo can kick anybody's ass.
  2. I never understand why Canadians continually try to justify initiatives by citing that they "working" in other countries with lower standards of living, higher crime, and worse economies. Just becomes somebody else does something, doesn't mean it's working. I'm seriously waiting for some politician to say "We should try famine, it works in Somalia." The UK has worst disregard for privacy of any Western nation I can think of, yet it hasn't lowered their crime rate. The British government spends millions of dollars of cameras and surveillance everywhere to no real effect. What's worse than high cost of this big brother approach is that there are endless cases in the UK of officials abusing this authority to stalk and blackmail normal citizens.
  3. LA SCIENCE DES REVES This is a very cutsie movie full of arts 'n crafts fun. It's about a young man with an over-active imagination. I sort of think of it as Calvin 'n Hobbes when Calvin grew up but never really became a functioning adult.
  4. This article was kinda whack. I know lots of women want to have skinny bodies like Olivia Wilde or Kiera Knightley, but I've never heard men say they wish they had Michael Cera's figure. I thought the general male ideal figure was something like Jason Statham. So it just doesn't ring true to me that the male author of this article constantly gets people telling him how easy his life must be for being skinny enough to fit in a locker. I'm just not buying it. I think it's probably better to learn to be happy with yourself or work and obtain the figure you want than to sit around expecting the whole world to stop having opinions on how people look, because that's never going to happen.
  5. GRACELAND by Paul Simon This is one of those perfect albums were every track is solid, each track is a bit different from the others, and each track flows into the next. If I put this ablum on, I don't want to stop it. BACK TO BLACK by Amy Winehouse This is probably my fave album of the last 20 years or so. Every track is absolutely great. I never thought she was going to make another album this perfect, but it's a shame she didn't get to make another album at all. THIS IS HARDCORE by Pulp This a cool rock album. Jarvis Cocker's lyrics and delivery are a good mix of dark humour and sensitivity. LA ROUX by La Roux This is a great current pop album. I really like Jackson's choir boy voice, it has so much drama to it. And the lyrics are sensitive too.
  6. A FACE IN THE CROWD This one was a bit ahead of its time and so it never really got the respect it deserved. By the time NETWORK came out people were ready for this type of media satire film. Andy Griffith gives a great performance as a sociopathic media personality but he just didn't get any recognition for it and so he's most famous for playing Matlock.
  7. KONTROLL This is a very original movie that manages to make lots of different tones work together. It's at times scary, other times really funny, and also touching and thoughtful. It's got that 90s techno flair like RUN LOLA RUN or TRAINSPOTTING that really appeals to me. UN PROPHETE This is a good classically told prison drama. Great acting, very engaging. HEAVENLY CREATURES This is one of my favorite films of the 90s. Most films about this type of subject matter would probably tell this story from the perspective of some cop or lawyer guy after the fact, but this one puts you in the minds of these girls with an obsessive friendship that goes too far. It's very effective in capturing their mindset without excusing their crime.

Now there's a view and a half! my heavens!
  9. Since SPs set their own rates, I don't think their rates indicate anything other than what they feel generates the right volume of business for them.
  10. I never thought about this either. Thanks for the heads up.
  11. Yeah, Queen is one of my favourite bands. I don't know which of their albums I would single out. My fave song of theirs is 'A Kind of Magic'. Everything on that Highlander soundtrack is gold.
  12. When I clicked on it, I thought this was going to be a thread about dudes with low-hanging testicles.
  13. Same thing I do every year: wait until the day after Valentine's Day and buy up as much discounted chocolate as I can eat.
  14. Most of the films I've seen featuring characters in the sex trade are movies about streetwalkers and usually from the 80s such as Streewalkin', Whore, Vice Squad etc. I forget whether Roberts's character in Pretty Woman was a streetwalker, but I think she was. I have never been with a streetwalker, so it doesn't really surprise me that none of these movies really reflect the experiences I've had with sex trade workers. I can't really say how accurate they are. I know most of the scenes in Vice Squad are based on real stories done from interviewing streetwalkers. I saw The Girlfriend Experience, which although it starred Sasha Grey it was not a porno movie. This was probably a lot closer to the experiences I've had even though Grey's character mostly does overnight dates involving dinner and a movie and her clients are obviously much richer than I. Grey's character is a polite attractive young woman who works from her home on a computer and screens her clients and sets up appointments. The way she interects with her clients and runs her business is a lot closer to what I've experienced. That being said, it's not a very good movie. It doesn't seem to know what it wants to say or be about. It plays with some different themes such as professionalism but never fully realizes any of them. It was just kinda unfocussed and underwhelming.
  15. I myself certainly don't expect Hollywood movies to be realistic or socially responsible. But since the original post was more about how the film was ahead of its time and realistic than a review of how entertaining the film was, I thought it was worth mentioning that those involved in making the film later realized just how unrealistic and socially irresponsible it was. And that kind of public expression of regret is something that happens very rarely in Hollywood, especially when the film is a big hit like Pretty Woman was. Just food for thought.
  16. Like most of the other guys here, I haven't seen this movie since I was a kid and don't remember it so well. I know a lot of the people involved regretted making it, including Julia Roberts herself. They realized afterwards that it failed to show the risks and downsides of streetwalking. Filmmaker Ken Russel made a film called 'Whore' in response to 'Pretty Woman', which he hoped to be a more honest portrayal of streetwalking. It is available in its entirety for your viewing pleasure on YouTube here: http://youtu.be/shkL6hriOsc Maybe you can compare and contrast.
  17. I like to reflect on experiences I've had both through this hobby and with past sweethearts. I also like images of sexy women, but not porn. A lot of the time I even wank to images of pretty women clothed, which I frequently find sexier than seeing them naked.
  18. It's strange that they're using this technology for condoms first, you'd think it might actually have a market in the medical field. I could see spray-on gloves actually being used by doctors etc. When this company fails, maybe I'll buy up the idea and re-market it.
  19. I think the best society is the one that invests in itself and provides the most opportunities for its members to make a future contribution. When opportunities to gain knowledge and training are restricted to a small elite, then only that small elite stands a chance at contributing ideas that will lead to future progress. In the long term I feel this limits the potential of the society because groundbreaking ideas can come from any mind regardless of what family they happen to be born into. The best way to ensure that people have those opportunities to contribute is for the state to provide stability to people as they make their way through life. When people don't have to worry about violent unpredictable fluctations in the price of things such as water, food, rent, electricity, medical attention etc they can focus better on developing the ideas that will improve quality of life and make their society stronger. The only way I know of to avoid violent price fluctuations is through state control, either direct state ownership of key sectors or heavy state regulation. I thank you for your interest and for your sarcastic eyeroll.
  20. The only advantage I see is it being a perfect fit. Other than that it just seems klunky and too complicated. I don't really see men carrying these devices around.
  21. Wow, no love for Archie or Tintin in these parts?
  22. When I came across Jessy's ad on another website I was really stunned by how sexy her photos were. I couldn't get over that one of her in that red latex outfit, it was just the hottest thing ever. When I found out she was available a short walk from my home it just seemed too perfect. I didn't get to talk to her directly before we met, but I felt at ease with her as soon as I met her. She was very gracious and warm, we connected in talking and shared the same outlook on many subjects. She's only a bit younger than myself and I found we could relate to each other well. She's an interesting and well-rounded woman. Physically she was just perfect. She has a beautiful face with a great mouth and nice sensual lips and kindness in her eyes. Her figure is outstanding and the tattoo look suits her. I probably would've been happy just to look at her. As a lover she is a real sensualist. I like to take things slow with lots of foreplay and tease and she knew just how to seduce me. We built up a really good passion and I just wanted more and more of her and she just kept giving more. We seemed to just go at the same pace in synch. She's an absolutely wonderful woman and I can't praise her enough. I look forward to meeting her again.
  23. Milton Friedman was one of the most destructive men of the 20th century. The countries in South America and Asia that implemented his vision of extreme capitalism all became crime-ridden third world dictatorships. Not even a rightwinger like Dick Nixon would dare unleash Friedman's version of capitalism on the USA. Nixon exported Friedman's vision to other countries to keep them weak. Friedman's legacy of nation crushing is one of the best cases in favour of the need to regulate capitalism.
  24. I am also in my early 30s and I relate to some aspects of my generation but not others. Some of this technology stuff is great. I have some interests and tastes that aren't popular, I get to learn about them better through the internet and I get to connect with people who share my interests which wouldn't happen in real life. Although I do express myself better when I can use my voice and face, so I do feel typing is a step down from face-to-face socializing. But I have not embraced the self-obsession aspect of technology. I don't feel the need to document every moment of my life through Twitter or Facebook etc. And I also don't feel the need to be accessible all the time. When I go to a movie or a concert, I shut my phone off and I don't think about the people who might want to talk to me. In my career I look out for myself and I think for myself. I am happy to learn from the experience of others, but that doesn't mean I trust anybody blindly or feel any obligation to humour them by repeating their mistakes.
