Skills and Powers we should have....

Empathy. The world would be a lot nicer if we all felt what others feel. Posted via Mobile Device -

You could always head down to your local herb/natural store and pick up a big bottle of a strong essential oil (clove, cinnamon, rosemary...) and put a good amount of that in your green bin to lessen the assault on your unsuspecting olfactory receptors. (Flyer777, do you need to google any of those words? LOL) Posted via Mobile Device

What is this? Hit 500 week? LOL. Congrats, Spike! Posted via Mobile Device -
I was sitting across from Patrick Roy last winter at Zak's Diner. I almost crapped my pants! I didn't bug him, and he didn't bug me, but he knew I knew who he was. Met Keifer Sutherland in Victoria. They were shooting something right downstars from where my school was. He was very gracious. I slept with a guy in Halifax on a working trip that I'm sure was Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys. Minus the funny voice and glasses. I met James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. James was grumpy and not too pleasant, but Lars was fantastic! When I told him I didn't want a photo or an autograph, he grabs me and says "well a hug, then". I knew a couple of the boys from Hot Hot Heat socially. They were friends with an old bf. And my all-time favorite wasn't actually anyone famous per se. He worked for Mirimax as a set designer. He would book for multiple hours and we would spend most of that time chatting away about stuff. I still wonder if he's still doing that and how many more crazy stories he'd have to tell. best song covers?

Cat Power is amazing! I love the man in black's cover of Nine Inch Nails' "hurt". And pretty much everything on A Perfect Circle's Emotive album, especially the cover of Lennon's "imagine". And Apocalyptica. They are gods of the cello. Posted via Mobile Device -
My friend works at a downtown Starbucks in Toronto. Having worked at bux myself, I can attest to the stress of the job. Breath is the best defense, I agree. I was lucky enough to train myself at a realtively young age to not only beathe from the belly but also take long breaths and slow, long exhalations. Horseback riding! I wish! I haven't ridden since coming to Ottawa. Drums are highly theraputic. Hitting stuff with other stuff in general is theraputic :-) I'll tell my friend to try some of these things (if they're in her budget). I know she has a djembe. I should tell her to trance drum more. This calls for a party! A sexy party! (Cue Stewie and his Playboy-esque montage). :-) Posted via Mobile Device -
I concur, this type of thing is far too risky and I doubt any of the ladies on Cerb would agree to it. You could always get one of those beds shaped like a race car :-) Posted via Mobile Device

I was chit-chatting with a friend last night about dealing with stress. She was having a hard go of life lately and more often than not she'd come home from work more wound up than yo-yo. So I suggested some new ways to de-stress and relax. Here's some of my favorites: - at the end of each day, I have a wee nip of something. Just relax in bed or on the couch (if I'm feeling sociable) with a glass of brandy, sometimes cognac. - at the beginning of each day I stretch. I don't do a full yoga routine or anything, but I stretch out and get my body ready for the day. I find it helps me wake up and it just feels good to stretch! - when I'm really stressed out, I go on a cleaning bender. Making my external world neat, organized and spotless seems to help me take perspective on what's going on in my head/heart. - cuddles with the animals. Of which there are no shortage in my life. - if the weather is good I sometimes put my favorite music to a playlist, pop in my earbuds and go for a long walk. This always helps me if I have a bout of semi-insomnia. So, what are your favorite ways to relax and ditch stress? Posted via Mobile Device

Wow, kennedy! You sure didn't waste any time before posting this! Thanks, I look forward to many more conversations - and some more tips for exploring the Northeastern US of A. :-) Posted via Mobile Device -
And what can we do about it? If you are concerned, notify your UN rep. But when it comes time to "domestic" affairs in other nations (domesting implying those that do not fall under international human rights), there truly is little we can do. It's the way the world works, my dear. Posted via Mobile Device

We don't have to agree with the customs and laws of other places, but when there are no human rights violations there is little we can do. Stoning, so-called "honor" killing, etc., are human rights. Things like a guy not proclaming his religion are cultural. Like it or no, there is a difference in these matters. Posted via Mobile Device

You pretty much summed it up, SA. Human rights violations trump culture. If there are no human right being violated, then the local government has the right to handle the case within the contraints of their judicial system. Posted via Mobile Device

Agreed! Posted via Mobile Device -
Human rights violations are not something I condone. However I am sensitive to lesser things like the case in point. There are times when customs must be respected (as in this case) and times when someone needs to be thrown in jail for human rights violations/abuse. And I agree whole-heartedly with Carrie: get to know people before sleeping with them! Especially in a place where there is deep unrest between sects, religions, etc. Posted via Mobile Device

Bearing in mind the customs, beliefs and laws (which are heavily influenced by religion in some areas of the world) of the location this occured, they made a case within the lawful boundaries of their judicial system. Of course something like this wouldn't happen here, only because our customs, culture and reflective laws are different. Don't westernize something that is not western. Posted via Mobile Device

The one thing I wish I hadn't left behind in BC was a gorgeous clear quartz crystal. Its base was large enough to cover almost the whole of the palm of my hand, and it was about 5 inches of thick, solid beauty. I've yet to find another quartz point like it. Sorry to hear about the earrings. They'll turn up. Ask your grampa for help ( assuming of course you prescribe to a belief in some form of afterlife) Posted via Mobile Device -

Not a rant...but a toast
Kate von Katz replied to antlerman's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
I've had friends (who I grew tired of quickly) with the same issue. Reversed. They "needed" to buy new clothes but were borrowing money from their folks to pay for their groceries and bills. Another good toast is a Celtic blessing. I don't remember it exactly, but its along the lines of: "May the wind always be at your back" Posted via Mobile Device Additional Comments: I've had friends (who I grew tired of quickly) with the same issue. Kate von Katz replied to NotchJohnson's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
True but you've already indicated fairly clearly an unwillingness to believe that New Yorkers would be as open to hugs as others. As I said - we're all human and we really are all the same when it comes time to basic human needs. The fact someone would need proof of this is what I find strange. And slightly prejudiced. Whenever I am with friends, often for some celebration, I always wish them the following: "May you have all of what you need and some of what you want" It's a favorite of mine to wish people as it covers needs, and distinguishes between "need" and "want". (Which some people have trouble with). :-) Posted via Mobile Device
