I actually did a blog post recently about the double standards of female sexuality and I did point out that sex sells. However, comparing using sex to sell companionship and sex to sell beer is a stretch. Using one's own sexiness to advertise her companionship is an exercise in total control and autonomy. Advertisers being paid to think up ads that have sexy women in them to sell beer, cars, makeup and everything else is not comparable I don't think. You could argue that women who are in those ads are knowingly participating in using sex to sell, but so what? That is also their choice. This is a form of shaming, in my opinion and I get pretty ranty about it on my blog. Shaming women for choosing to allow their sensual, sexual nature to shine is not okay. If a woman chooses to show her body, that's her call. If I want to sell my new soap (this is an example, I'm not in the soap-making biz) by having racy commercials with sudsed up women in bikinis that's my choice, and the women in that commercial are aware of what they are involved in. Why shame them and imply that they are somehow to blame for society being a-holes about it? A much better investment in time and energy would be to remind people that a human being's sexuality - man or woman - is natural and should not be a basis for shame or negative judgment, nor a basis for superiority. How many times do you hear people - men and women - making snyde comments about a woman's clothes? Oh, look at what she's wearing, what a slut... etc, etc. How many times do we make bullshit judgments on someone's looks? Oh she's gorgeous, she must be an airhead... etc, etc. Oh man, did you hear he scored with ___ chicks last week? *high five* Etc, etc.... THAT is what needs to change. People's perceptions, attitudes and stereotypes about sexuality. We all love sex, that's why it sells so many things. But we also have a lot of hangups about sex. It's more socially acceptable for men to be promiscuous than for a woman to be. If a woman doesn't have enough sex, she's frigid. If she has too much she's a slut. If a man doesn't have sex he's defective or undesirable, if he has a lot then he's a stud, someone to look up to. These are generalizations, but they are common enough. Can we take the focus off the women for a while and focus on society's beef with sexuality? It's not a weapon, yet it's been weaponized as a tool of shame and degradation and as a platform to raise oneself up on (mostly the guys). I think this is less about the message that things like this are sending and more about the message that's already been received.

Let's kiss (and tell? ;)
Kate von Katz replied to Eva Laperle's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
I LOVE kissing! As an SP, of course I respect if a client does not wish to kiss, however I personally feel that things are quite awkward without kissing. Can't explain why precisely. If a client doesn't want to pleasure me in other ways it's not a big deal and doesn't really change the feel of our time together, but if a gentleman does not want to kiss for some reason it just throws the whole vibe off for me. Kissing is a must! Well... the caveat being that my partner has good breath and hygiene. ;) -

Thanks. I think it's hard for everyone to remember that bitching often reflects worse on the bitcher than the bitchee. :) And yes the second half is great. Especially as applies to unsolicited advice, which is something I find to be at the top of my list of peeves. As for the article, yeah it is depressing. Women are told that we should have higher self-esteem and that we are all beautiful, but when we start to act like it then we get slammed down again. Ah, what a world, what a world.

Oh have any of you seen this? It's a girl who decided to accept every compliment given to her online rather than just brushing it off or downplaying it... the results are equally dismaying... http://www.buzzfeed.com/rossalynwarren/this-is-what-happens-when-women-actually-accept-a-compliment#.lbDZY4vDKj

Cancellations and no-shows are a fact of life, not just in this line of work but in all lines of work. Dentists, physicians, hair dressers, etc.... they have all had people not show for appointments or cancel without rescheduling. It happens. You can't control what other people do but you can sure as hell control what you allow them to get away with. Many ladies have a policy where if a gent cancels with less than a certain amount of notice given, he is to pay an additional fee on his next visit. Other ladies have a policy where a deposit is required to book again. Both are useful and will help weed out the chronic timewasters. And the point about having a gent confirm the appointment shortly before is a must, in my opinion. Don't give out your location, just your general area (nearest major intersection) and have clients phone you when they are there to get the address and directions. Clients who have no intention of showing up will often just not bother to make that confirmation call and you can go ahead and make a note of their number so you can decide if you want to bother answering if they call again. Don't be afraid to impose rules on your clients. The ones worth seeing will be happy to oblige.

Bad experience, what do I do?
Kate von Katz replied to MarkOttMassage's topic in Ottawa Discussion - Escorts
RG's right. This is not the place to post a bad experience. However, Cowboy's Diary is a fantastic resource in Ottawa for reporting bait&siwtch, ripoffs, etc. -
Some new bedsheets, pillows and a spiffy new shower curtain. Contemplating going to buy ice cream.... :D

what are you doing at this very minute?
Kate von Katz replied to Exotic Touch Danielle's topic in Fun Threads
Waiting on a load of laundry to come out of the dryer and contemplating plants and bird feeders to give my barren balcony a bit of life. -
You are beautiful!
Kate von Katz replied to WhiteKnight's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Also on men. Not in the context you mentioned about it creating unrealistic standards for men to look for in women, but I mean that men are also very subject to bombardment of unrealistic bodytypes. Everywhere you see men with lithe and athletic bodies which are also often photoshopped - though to a lesser degree. The real tragedy is that many men buy into the new beauty standard, and so do many women. It's a two sided issue, as most things are. -
You are beautiful!
Kate von Katz replied to WhiteKnight's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Thank you for sharing this. All the old cliches and adages about beauty being skin-deep and real beauty being in self-confidence and a good character are true. Sometimes we forget this. Men are told to be manly and have a certain physique and women are told to be feminine and have a certain physique, but we often forget to just be ourselves and embrace the joy and freedom that comes with that. -
I think they will still exist with incalls. They're a booking agency that happens to offer an incall location for ladies to work from. In that context, I doubt LE will bother wasting time and resources busting them. Technically living off the avails is no-no, but then again so is jaywalking and I've never been busted or warned by a police officer when I fail to use a crosswalk (which is pretty much all the time...). That being said, some municipalities are a little more active about these things than others and one city may be tolerant and accepting of incall agencies where another city is not. Not saying that it's cool to flout the law, but rather that the law itself recognizes that circumstance and context factor in. An agency that has underage girls, citizen complaints and other reasons for LE to investigate will be targeted, but because of the aforementioned reasons not solely on the grounds that they are an incall agency.

Escape the daily doldrums and indulge in a languorous liason with an educated, warm and libidinous companion. How has Cerb changed your life
Kate von Katz replied to someguy's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
I'm far from a noob, but Cerb has changed my life because as a companion it's a draining job sometimes. Yes, I do love my work otherwise I would have quit a long time ago, however this is a customer service job and anyone who has worked a customer service job knows that you can love your job but sometimes loathe your customers. The truth is that there are some gents out there who are rude, aggressive, and maliciously gossip like venomous schoolgirls on the review sites, often telling a very slanted version of the truth. This is hard to cope with and Cerb is a haven free from the negativity, the ego cases and the narcissists who honestly believe it is acceptable to bash ladies and even compromise their personal information. It has been a place for me to engage in a friendly and respectful discourse with a number of fellow ladies and gentlemen. Cerb is a community not a review board. Ladies are not asked to pay large sums of money to be allowed to post and contribute as is the case on most other boards. As a result this site is not a boy's club but a true community. And that is so very refreshing. Thanks to Cerb, I have made friendly professional connections with some truly admirable women, and have met some amazing men whom I have been privileged to spend time with. I have shared opinions and had my voice heard and in turn have heard others. This place is unique and it's a treasure to me. I think many feel the same, which is why after so many years, it's going strong and continues to grow. -
Phaedrus, as so often, really nailed it for me. From my perspective, which is inherently slanted because I myself am involved in this industry, I agree with most insofar as society doesn't give a rat's hairy keister about either the companions or the clients. The general census is that companions are uneducated, drug addled women with daddy issues. We know this is not true at all, but general society doesn't. It's a stereotype that is prevalent and detrimental, and it contributes to society's apathy regarding companion's rights and safety. As for clients, I don't think society has any expectations or preconceived notions other than that they are depraved, perverse and perhaps having a physical reason for needing "to pay for it" (being obese, ugly, etc.). Again, we all know this stereotype is no truer than the preconceived notions of companions, and yet it persists. Beyond those basic assumptions about what kind of people we are, it would seem no further thought is given on the subject. The average member of society is ignorant in the true sense of the word: they simply have no actual knowledge and therefor they presume stereotypes to be truth and leave it at that. That's my opinion, anyhow... :)
