  1. A litre of chocolate milk for 99 cents. Returning from the grocery store to find a beautiful, encouraging and unexpected postcard from a friend. Today is getting better.
  2. I've had some pretty good meatloaves in my time, but what I really like are the imitation meatloaves. Nut loaf. Veggie loaf. Lentil loaf. Top it with mushroom gravy and a side of potatoes and you're good to go! Now I'm hungry. *tiptoes off to make toast* Toast comes from a loaf... right?
  3. Why yes! It just might. (Haven't justified ordering it for myself yet, though.) For those who might be curious, the shirt in question is this. I consider it both a respectful tribute to a wonderful condiment and a possible producer of fabulous innuendos.
  4. I'm honestly not sure where this notion comes from, but I don't like it very much. Some of the best friends I've ever had are/have been male. Most of whom are sexually and/or romantically attracted to women, I might add. But just as I as a bisexual person am not immediately attracted to everyone I meet, men have different criteria for sexual and romantic attraction, too. Sexual tension is not always there. And you know what? Even when a friendship does include sexual tension, that doesn't mean it can't work! I speak from experience. Exactly! Nothing is more valuable to me in my interactions than real, intimate emotional and intellectual connection. Sex can be a part of that relationship, but it doesn't have to be.
  5. I bought a bunch of funny animal stickers this afternoon! Now I can cover my possessions with Funky Birds, Penguin Party, etc. Life is good. :D
  6. My favourite way to give back to my community and the world is by direct involvement. It helps me feel connected to a cause, and I can get a better sense of what kind of effect my contribution is having that way. As well, I strongly believe in the relevance of Gandhi's assertion that we much 'be the change' we want to see in the world. Absolutely this includes using one's financial resources to fund the things we care about, but also to use the skills at my disposal to make my small corner of the universe a friendlier, safer, healthier place in whatever way I can. And to support my friends in doing so, too. As a bonus, I find hands-on activism to be a really helpful antidote to angst re: the human condition.
  7. As SMQ said, oil of oregano is a great preventative measure/curative tactic. Aside from a healthy diet and exercise, I consider it my best line of defence against illness. But when it comes to comfort, I'm a sucker for hot toddies. They're so very warm and wonderful. For those who've never had one: In a mug, pour one shot whiskey, the juice of half a lemon, four or five whole cloves, as much honey as you like, and fill the rest with boiling water. Wrap self in blanket, snuggle into a pile of pillows, and consume mixture while watching something that makes you laugh. Should you feel sleepy after doing this, just go with it- the rest will do you good. I also like tomato soup with saltines, toast, and fruit juice. For some reason they help me feel better about my situation.
  8. You want a big country? Canada's pretty big... The Arrogant Worms- Canada's Really Big
  9. I don't know about new year's resolutions, but I have some resolutions that I've been working on for a while now (and expect to be working on indefinitely). I want to stop feeding my perfectionism and learn to accept my best efforts as worthy, I want to sit down and write more, even if I don't think it's any good (see above), I want to learn the full lyrics to some of the songs I sing in the shower, to improve my singing experience, I want to boogie boogie boogie. :D
  10. Is bacon greasy? Does the sun shine? Do birds sing?
  11. I like Alexandra because her posts always come across as very intentional, reflective, and compassionate.
  12. Having a sad day, deciding to make soup to cheer myself up, but the soup doesn't taste good at all. D:
  13. Attending a yoga class after a few weeks of yoga withdrawal. I feel so limber!
  14. Soup or stew is always good- and often taste better on day two after the flavours have had a chance to mingle! I made a delicious peanut butter/sweet potato stew a while back. It was great for eating on its own with a side of veggies, or scooping up with pita bread. :D Rice/grain dishes are good too, and you can also put them in pita bread for an easy sandwich. I also like to make a LOT of salad and eat it over the course of several meals. Fruit salad is my favourite for breakfast, lunch, or dessert. Especially if it contains mango and/or pineapple.
  15. I believe that everyone should have the right to pursue the sex they want, with the consenting partners they desire, as often as they like. I think that the attitudes that would seek to limit, repress, or shame such activities are harmful to both individuals and society. The fact is, we are a very sexual species- and like our closest primate relatives, the chimps and the bonobos, we have sex not solely as a means of reproduction, but also as a way to form bonds, to relieve stress, to alleviate conflict, to show friendship and demonstrate love, and a whole host of other reasons. Desire and sexuality is part of what makes life so awesome. At its best, it can help us connect better with ourselves and with others. Of course it should be a human right. It's human nature!
  16. "Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I'll meet you there." -Rumi
  17. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6tV11acSRk This seemed appropriate. I always get very excited about the return of sunshine. :D Thank you for your solstice wishes, Astrid!
  18. Winter fatigue. >.< I need sunlight! I feel like a lizard- cold-blooded, slow, and gradually slipping into hibernation. Must... wake... up!
  19. Does that make you blue, da ba dee da ba die?
