Many of the pictures there are fakes, see The Cowboy's Diary if in doubt (or for an interesting read) and even consider "Buying Him a Beer" if you have a PayPal account as there is a lot of useful info there that could save you a lot more than the cost of a beer :) Lyla is a much better bet but if you must at least review his list of "Numbers to avoid" before you reach for that phone :)

I always have lots of BitCoin around (most of it in "cold" storage). If someone wanted some (with the least amount of difficulty) they could simply send an INTERAC e-Transfer to their own email, then cut and paste the deposit email that they then get into a PM message to me here along with sending me their BTC wallet address (it can only be used for deposits) and I would send them the equivalent amount in BitCoin at the current and fair exchange rate once I got their money. Two cautions: (1) First you need to PM me and let me know how much you want and verify that I am around (in Canada) or somewhere with good connectivity and I know when it's coming so you don't have to wait for me to discover the request by chance. Sometimes a couple of weeks can go by before I get a chance to log in here, at other times I around every day. (2) You have to trust that once I have your money I'll send you the bit coins as promised :) Anyone that knows me, knows that's not a matter for concern. Interesting thing about this approach... you still wouldn't know my real identity (unless of course you are someone that has met me in person). That's one of the nice things about bit coin, anonymous as you want it to be and no one can control or stop it. Additional Comments: Yes, as long as you have the unique deposit URL, the password the sender has set and they haven't cancelled the transaction (they can at any time until it's actually deposited), anyone with that information can deposit the money into any account they have access to. I rather suspect that is why a password is used on INTERAC e-mail transfers, as anyone with the substantive contents of the email can deposit the money anywhere, even someone that it wasn't intended for. In the absence of SPs that accept Bit Coin (it will happen someday) I've always found that much easier than dealing with cash.

There really must be an easier way to pay for ads. Just the same, if you already have some Bit Coins then there is no easier way to pay for anything! Just set up an online wallet at BlockChain.info and be prepared to print the wallet recovery instructions to a printer or a PDF file (for later printing) and save it all on a USB key and put that in a safety deposit box at the bank (or somewhere very safe). I also strongly recommend that you install Google Authenticator on your phone and set up that on your blockchain wallet to keep the thieves out (once the app is installed on your phone you just scan a QR code and then you have a password that changes every 30 seconds). Think up a really good and long password ahead of time as that is used as the encryption key for the contents of your wallet so if you forget your password and don't have your recovery instructions printed, even the folks that run BlockChain.info can't help you as they don't have access to your wallet either. If you print out your wallet's private key and put it in a safe place, it doesn't matter if BlockChain.info goes out of business and disappears forever, all you really need is that secret SHA256 encryption key to be able to spend your bit coins. There is no central bank or authority for Bit Coin so if you loose the wallet recovery instructions you will lose any coins that are in it forever. Make sure to print out a QR code of your wallet address so clients can pay you in bit coin, I've often wished that all ladies would accept Bit Coin as compensation for their time. The transaction takes less than a second and can't be reversed.

I realize that most people don't have a lot of extra money lying around so everyone in the house can have their own computer but accessing Lyla from the same computer system your spouse routinely uses seems dangerous. I agree, private or incognito browsing is a big help. You mentioned that DuckDuckGo (which doesn't keep a record of your searches) has trouble finding Lyla, the fact that you wouldn't just go and type the URL in directly in the location bar instead of having to use a search engine to find it indicates that you probably aren't the world's most computer literate guy which is clearly the case for many people. You definitely want to be careful here as it is easy to leave evidence when you didn't mean to. Maybe she gets suspicious one day and has one of her friends help her install a program of the type often used to monitor children's computer use that silently takes a snap shot of the screen and stores it for later review every time it changes significantly. Once you are caught red handed there is no undoing it.

I know it won't help in this case but perhaps someone in the future. I have a Garmin Vivosmart watch, it has a lot of useful features for keeping fit but aside from it's core features which are worth considering, oddly one of the more useful features is it alerts me immediately anytime my phone gets out of bluetooth range (30 - 40 feet) so this has saved me from this fate more than once. Of course the Google Device Policy app which lets me locate and remotely wipe it is also very useful if and when I do ever lose it. Sorry to hear of your loss, hope you are able to retrieve it.

NOTE that this was completely accurate at the time I wrote it but due to the Supreme Court striking down some of the the laws that were in effect at that time and our wonderful government subsequently implementing some new very repressive laws (contrary to the spirit of what the Supreme Court was trying to accomplish) that makes the world much more dangerous for everyone involved this is no longer "completely legal" in Canada as it once was.

Getting 'Untrusted Connection' warning when I log on here
backrubman replied to Cato's topic in Tech corner
Seems that the certificate was valid for a year and has now just recently expired. If you click on the "lock" icon in your browser it gives you the full certificate details, including the issued and expiry dates. -
This is how they do it in Sydney:

Bitcoin.... Uh, Help?!
backrubman replied to shortandsweetxo's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Once you have completed your first BitCoin transaction you'll wonder how you ever found it complicated. I find it a lot easier to deal with than conventional money. That said, I suppose the hardest thing to deal with is getting BitCoin if you don't already have any and of course that is something the ladies here should never need to worry about -- I'd be delighted if they would accept BTCs as compensation for their time :) Everyone should have "some" because there can only ever be 21 million of them so maybe, just maybe someday they will be worth a LOT more than they are now. I used to mine them when it was easy, then when it became more difficult I bought a lot of them for around $0.70/ea. Right now they are worth $456.80/ea in Canadian dollars. So don't buy BTCs so you can pay BP, but sure accept them as compensation and then you will have some (for whatever purpose). It could be the best investment you ever make (or the worst) - only time will tell. -
Apparently, you can use a bigger hammer (but I'd be careful with such a change employing proper change management approaches with a back out plan until I was certain I got it right). Apache mod_rewrite to the rescue? # Always Forced www to non www and go to https RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.(.+)$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://%1/$1 [R=301,L] # Always Forced http to https RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} 80 RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [R,L]

Thanks, I thought it might just be me. There is a browser extension (HTTPS Everywhere) for Firefox, Chrome, and Opera that can help to compensate for the deficiency but of course the best approach would be to correct the problem with the site so that people who don't have this work around installed are as protected as they can be. The in mean time I guess it's a good idea for everyone (particularly people on hotel or similar Wifi networks) to keep an eye on the address bar and go back to https when they see it disappear and revert to plain text http. I actually discovered this wonderful place when I was asked to do a security audit of a hotel Wifi network many years ago and of course we were easily able to capture the credentials of people logging into this site right out of thin air (the password was sent in the clear as simple hash).

Well at least with the Google Apps for Work or Business (whatever they are calling it these days), you can turn off Google+ entirely. It's completely disabled on my account. An associate of mine uses Bria (SIP client) exclusively with is smart phone (he has a tablet plan with data only, no voice but bell gives him voice anyways) and uses SIP with a LES.NET account (finds it much less expensive than paying for voice on cellular the normal way) and Bria lets him send and receive SMS via his VoIP number. So right there he has something of interest to many ladies -- I know you can have a phone with dual SIM cards but only one of them can be active at any given time. His VoIP account and his normal cellular telephone number are both active at the same time. Different phone numbers active at the same time on the same phone. He can make calls from either but chooses not to use the cellular side at all as it's 0.20/minutes as he doesn't have a meaningful voice plan.

Spent the afternoon with a lovely lady of Lyla who I had come to admire very much over the years but never had the privileged of meeting in person until today.

It's not a "serious breach of privacy". The e-mail address having been used at some point on Lyla has been used at some point on Lyla. Nothing to stop a complete backup of the Lyla server from 6 months ago being released into the wild in the same manner as the Ashley Madison dump. Deleting or changing something doesn't necessarily make it better. I told mod I still wasn't getting my notifications and he responded that everything was fine; turns out he was right, he just forgot to mention it would take months for them to arrive :)

I admit that I'm not really familiar with it yet but if it can send "creepy" emails to parents that can "humiliate teens at a vulnerable period in their lives", it certainly conjures up an image of the parent wondering why the teens were surfing Lyla for a short time before they realize it was their SO (who wasn't careful enough) and not the teens - Thus the warning. I'm sure it's all explained in intricate detail of all that fine print that people just by their nature don't read and simply click [NEXT] :) And then there is the SO that sets up your account to be monitored on purpose because it's easy and the capability is built in, perhaps just from curiosity not expecting to find what is then found.

Prostitutes can't be raped; "it's more like 'theft of services'"
backrubman replied to MightyPen's topic in In the news
You might need to be in Texas to cleanly get away with this but the troubling thing is the vile and repugnant "attitudes" are everywhere, not just Texas. -
There are several aspects of this story I find very disturbing: 1. That our government gives the Supreme Court the finger by making new laws that are less compliant with the Charter than those the Supreme Court struck down. 2. That those charged are treated as guilty first by having their names published and must prove they are innocent (if they are), even if they manage to prove they are innocent in court they are already guilty and always will be in the court of public opinion. 3. That it is entrapment, plain and simple. I am certain that the majority of these gentlemen had no intent until propositioned by an attractive undercover police officer (but entrapment is OK in Canada - it shouldn't be). 4. At least one of those charged suffers from Alzheimer's and probably would have agreed to help the lady rob a bank if she had asked him to :)

Ashley Madison. Anyone concerned?
backrubman replied to a topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
That's a stretch. If you take any group of of 33 million people, some of them are going to commit suicide within the next week or two for whatever reason. But I'm sure there will be some very real divorces as a result of this and some of those parents have very real children that will be affected by this. -
Yes, now we are getting much closer to the heart of the matter or what I was really asking. So I try to have that frank discussion and for a wide variety of reasons. I don't like acting or think it is necessary, I don't want to be an unnecessary burden, I don't want to waste my time and effort (or hers) on something that could have been avoided. I guess the problem is trying to switch on the absolute honesty switch just takes time and a lot of explanation but I have managed it.
-
Yes, I well understand the concept of G-F-E. Not really what I was asking though. Even though it may be loosely implied with G-F-E, I guess what I have been looking for lately (and finding, it just takes a lot of frank discussion that sometimes makes me uncomfortable initially but so far has always produced better results) is the T-H-F-E (Totally Honest Friend Experience), that one doesn't come with any acting or subterfuge :)

Ashley Madison - Check your email address
backrubman replied to ThisOneWorks's topic in Escort Discussion for Winnipeg
Yeah, Gmail does NOT reveal your IP address in the headers, Hotmail/Outlook definitely does via X-Originating-IP: [Your-IP-here] right in the headers for the recipient to see. You can be certain however that if Google is served with a FISA warrant they will search their logs and reveal the IP address of the user to the Government. So most disposable email address services can be traced with varying levels of difficulty, Gmail being much better than Hotmail/Outlook.com. For the really paranoid there is SIGAINT, a darknet email service that absolutely allows you to send and receive email without revealing your location or identity to anyone. -
I can't even imagine not being able to spare 5 or 10 minutes of our appointment time for a shower or managing without one - just wouldn't be comfortable. After I shower I even get dressed again (unless requested not to) with fresh underwear, I make no presumptions. And RG, if you are reading this - I always bring my own soap :)
