OMG this is a miracle. Congratulations. The fact that the Goddess Penelope may now achieve immortality (the only way mortals can) by having offspring makes the world that much better a place. Estoy muy emocionado al escuchar esta noticia!

Prostitution laws need to address online solicitation: chief
backrubman replied to futileresistenz's topic in In the news
An obvious threat to national security. Seriously, I can't imagine on what basis this would be so? Perhaps I haven't had enough coffee yet today? If they were denied entry based on the suspicion that they might choose to engage in such activities, then equally they'd have to keep me out on suspicion that I might engage any that were already there in such activities :) -
Refresh, refresh, refresh and don't ask me what time it is. LOL
backrubman replied to Summer Meadows's topic in Tech corner
Yeah I think even when you set the time zone correctly as I have it applies to many places but not all places and not all consistently :) As for notifications of PMs, if if you turn on the POP up notifications, the CERB web site can't "push" the notification until you refresh or change pages. The main index page with the shout box being a notable exception as it does auto refresh every so often but if you are anywhere else and don't do anything, you wouldn't get a new PM notification until you refresh or change pages. I often have my email open anyways and PMs go to my email pretty quickly so that notifies me of a new PM (another option you can set up). It's mostly a ask and receive thing like all web sites, so if you are just sitting there nothing changes until you ask for the same page again (refresh) or another one. Hope that helps. -

I don't get that. When I enter the US for anything to do with working (or in any way receiving compensation) I have to obtain a special temporary work visa just be be allowed to consult for 3 days or swear I am just a "tourist" or visiting relatives. I either have to prove that I am the only person in the world that can do this job (and get permission by proving no US citizen can) or am visiting Disney Land/World. So if an SP is crossing the border, and wants the border guards to think she is a paid companion as opposed to a prostitute wouldn't she have to prove there are no paid companions with her skills capable of doing the job in the US already? There problem is you aren't allowed to enter and be gainfully employed in any way (including self employment) unless you have a green card or a temporary work visa. So if an SP was going to cross into the US for gainful employment I doubt she'd be able to get the temporary work visa as there are already US citizens with the right to work there that can do whatever she is claiming she is going to be doing. Just curious about your take on this? -
It's possible that someone else used that computer to access CERB and when two accounts are used from the same computer it is detected but just as likely the computer is acting strange because it is the "typhoid Mary" of computer virus infections. I would recommend against using a computer in an internet cafe to access CERB (or anything that requires a password you don't want compromised) as many of these places have keystroke loggers installed (not necessarily by the owners). Your CERB login and password may already be in hands of someone in Czechoslovakia. Go somewhere safe and change your password again to something entirely different while you still can. And open Wifi like at McDonalds? Nope, don't do it! We can see that MD5 password fly by, pull it right out of the air and it's trivial to turn it back into plain text.

Yeah, PayPal isn't "adult" friendly at all. Many SPs now accept Interac email transfers (more and more all the time) and this seems to be an excellent option as long as you understand the ins and outs of it. I find it to be my preference. All you need is a bank account and an email address and you can accept payments electronically and as it's just two people electronically exchanging money (as opposed to using cash) there is no stigma like with PayPal were there are dispute policies to make sure you got the goods or can get your money refunded if you didn't, etc. I fully support an advance deposit via Interac to guard against ignorant no-shows. At least the SP has "something" to show for her time and in most cases this wouldn't be the case, if a gentleman makes an advance deposit, he will show up unless he truly can't.

How to enter the work force?
backrubman replied to Studio 110 by Sophia's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
I quit my mainstream job that had a great pension and benefits plan and don't miss them. Sadly I determined that people within my group were retiring after 30 or 35 years, collecting their pension for 2.6 years on average and then leaving this world. I had at least another 10 years to go to be the minimum age to get my statistically 2.6 years (on average) of pension benefits before I die, so I decided it wasn't for me and now I'll never be able to go back to working for someone else. I'll never be able to make as much money or find as much happiness working for someone else. As for the pension, well it's strictly a matter of discipline to put enough aside for that and the other benefits are easily acquired on the open market if you want the security of having insurance. If you want to or are able to return to working for someone else I think it is wonderful, but working for yourself and being your own boss, well, there is no life like it. When it comes to SPs (from the outside looking in), it seems a bit of a trap just like an actor that gets cast into a particular kind of role and can't find any other. Like Leonard Nimoy who had to write a book "I Am Not Spock" but then we rarely see him elsewhere cast in other roles as hard as he did try to change this it seems in the end he really couldn't. I've seen this discussed a number of times here and it is a challenge to return to the work force once you've experienced the dark side of the force and not having to answer to anyone other than yourself. Hope you achieve whatever you set out to do. Additional comments: I should add that even though I "quit" I still do consult from time to time or even work part time for someone else from time to time (with no benefits) but basically retain the freedom to set my own hours, so you might find a balance between security and freedom like I have, hope so. -

I agree, if you really are guilty, pay the darn fine and move on. But that's cute. If you break down the costs of the fine (which is necessary if you are filing an appeal, complete with appeal book and a factum) you discover surprise, surprise the fine (in Nova Scotia) already includes "Court Costs", so if you just pay the fine you are also paying "Court Costs" anyways. So every fine paid and not challenged already includes the "Court Costs", those tricky devils. I doubt there is any tax payer money involved at all. I'm sure they make a very tidy profit and if anything you are using "fine payer money" not "tax payer money" when you do challenge being falsely accused. Ok here is an actual grey example: We have a four lane highway, a 10 km straight stretch and then a steep hill. If you diligently set your cruise control to exactly 100 Kms/h then some 10 kms later at the bottom of the hill you will (due to gravity) be doing about 116/kms before your speed automatically drops back to 100. Flashing lights in your rear view mirror. Yes, they are there EVERY SINGLE MORNING at the bottom of this hill. But dam it, you were exceeding the speed limit and are guilty! Or, perhaps the Presiding Justice should just get the chance to here about this, perhaps the "Officer" can be asked how often they are there and how many tickets they issue? Hmmm. With direct questioning under oath it was in fact possible to establish that they were there in this area not to increase traffic safety but to increase revenue from fines. But you are still guilty! Hmm. But 116 in a 100, bit of a stretch, so lets just charge him with failure to obey road signs instead of speeding, yeah, that's the ticket (pun intended) then he won't fight it in court as there is no one week license suspension, no "points", just the fine! Well as it turns out "failure to obey road signs" requires that the signs be "in close proximity", hmmm, so Officer (and you are under oath), "just where is this speed limit sign in relation to your daily speed trap?", "Oh, it's less than or about 1 kilometer up the road". "Really? So what if I asked if you would believe it was in fact 10 Kms up the road? Would you believe that?" "No, I wouldn't" he says. "So along that same line, you wouldn't think this charge was prudent if it was in fact established that the speed limit sign is 10 Kms away?" "No, but it's only one Km away". Time to have him watch a 15 minute video which starts 10 Kms back (where the last speed limit sign was) and proceeds all the way, proving that it is in fact 10 Kms as each mile marker flies by, we pause the video and so note it. "So Officer, just how do you explain this video? Was it the wrong area?" "Why no, I guess the snowplow must have knocked down the sign at some point, I know it was there". The prosecution now doesn't even allow for the case or questioning to continue, they immediately moved that the charge be dismissed. The effect: case dismissed in favor of the defendant, a new speed limit sign appears within a week, the daily saga continues and those that have been trapped by this know they must disengage their cruise control and break because guess who is still hiding at the bottom of the hill? So case dismissed... you tell me, was I guilty? I could site three or four other examples were I clearly was not but this one is still grey and won on a technicality, judge me! Please. -
I think you nailed it in a number of ways Samantha. I'm still not convinced, until I hear otherwise officially, that the Supreme Court is stupid enough to have a third go at it. It is well within their ability, to say "nope, not going to hear the case" and nothing further on the matter which in many ways would be very much simpler for them as they get to make a decision without having to make a decision. If they do take it on, it will be due to political pressure and then the result like you so correctly point out is already decided (as the other two courts were not in error).

That's an easy one but takes a small white lie, no big deal. So I rent a room and ask for early check-in (before 1 PM) then at 6 PM when I don't plan to come back again in the morning after 4 AM to check out, I just go to the front desk and say "Change of plans, headed for the airport, checking out now". Note that I realize I didn't say "I'm headed for the airport" but that is semantics, still a small white lie. They never argue (like what's the point? You're going to be 3,000 miles away by the time 4 AM rolls around) :) Also note that I'm not asking if it is ok to check out now (which is suspicious), I offer no alternative, I'm leaving and I'm looking at my watch (perhaps to see if I can make the flight). In fact they usually check you out quickly, ignoring all other activity (like ringing phones) so you won't miss your flight and often offer to summon a taxi but hey, no thanks, I have a rental car and my luggage is already in it, thanks anyway. Have a nice flight sir! Thanks, we'll see you again, bye for now.

Thanks my friend, you are very insightful indeed! You read between the lines surprisingly very well. I didn't exactly want to mention it as it is so very out of character for me but this is precisely the way it went down (a day off work a lot of trouble and I proved him wrong on the stand), the only time in my life I can recall refusing to shake someones outstretched hand, told him there was very much "hard feelings", tore a strip off him and walked away while he still tried to apologize. Looking back on it, I was younger and not as "seasoned" as I am today. These days I am always a gentleman, except of course in circumstances that clearly justify the use of lethal force. -

Oh I am watching him alright! Of course just because he doesn't need a warrant to read my email, it still doesn't make it a public place or even take away an expectation of privacy, certainly could take away the privacy in reality but not the "reasonable expectation". And actually he would need a lot more than a warrant to read anything from my Internet as it is all encrypted until off shore and out of his reach anyways. Should he want to go to the trouble of bothering a foreign government to get access to my internet traffic, well, aside from my posts on CERB, which he is more than welcome to read now, I think he'd find a copy of War and Peace more interesting. But my wife does sometimes find some good recipes or a great deal on new curtains on the Internet, he might intercept them. -
I agree. The only time we get to "name names" is in a positive review! The name should be stricken from the record, and the jury is hereby instructed to disregard that testimony :)

backrubman replied to futileresistenz's topic in In the news
He's been watching too much American TV. Prostitution is not now and has never been illegal in Canada. While I agree soliciting for the purpose in a "public place" is, several court cases has established a prescient that a web site is not a "public place" as it relates to this section of the Criminal Code. Emails, telephone calls and any other method of communication were there is a "reasonable expectation of privacy" also do not apply. I have noted that many ladies misinterpret the law in this regard in that they state on their web site they won't discuss anything on the phone, but as they have a "reasonable expectation of privacy" they are free to discuss anything on the phone they like. -

Wow, Ontario must be so different! As far as I am concerned if they are going to put on a trial in accordance with the principals of fundamental justice then I have the right to cross examine my accuser and examine the evidence against me even if he (or she) has submitted an affidavit attesting to the fact that they "think" I am guilty, so I would (in Nova Scotia at least) compel the prosecution to produce their witness against me. I would simply call my accuser to take the stand and if the prosecution cannot produce its' only witness move for an immediate dismissal. Tested and proven and should still work today unless the natzis have taken over and I hadn't noticed :) -

Excellent point. That's why I have chose to do battle in Court when I have, because I wasn't guilty. Sure, always a lot less time, energy and even money to pay the fine and be done with it but you have to say you're guilty when you are not. So in my opinion, if you are not guilty, you don't even have to fight it, just plead not guilty and show up for the trial. Often happens the "officer" or prosecutor is on vacation or involved with something more important or just doesn't show for whatever reason and it's case dismissed :) Quite often they couldn't be bothered, but if you deposition the officer (I have) they will really come to the battle with all guns blazing and spend a fortune to go down in flames. And once, while trying to prove I was guilty, they actually discovered the truth - not guilty! There is "some" justice in the justice system, not sure just how much, but some. -
Personal Relationships and Services
backrubman replied to The General's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
I have to respect what you are trying to say Cristy. Does that mean that if you have a personal relationship you will have to stop being an SP during that time? Sounds like it, and this may be the way in which you are "old fashioned" and that is you and you have every right to be who you are. Certainly, from the point of view of the client (at least this one), "real" is so very much appreciated. If you are going to be an actor and seduce me (because you think it is your job) and then not be "real", as Cristy says "by that I mean to actually get turned on", then I really have to appreciate Cristy's version of "real" because all I need is to realize it is acting and then I'll really wish you hadn't and wish we'd played monopoly when we ran out of things to talk about. Just give me one fake moan and I won't repeat :) -
Personal Relationships and Services
backrubman replied to The General's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
I suppose I have a bizarre take on this but I think it does add insight to the subject matter in an odd way. When I am spending time with a lady in this setting, sex isn't the real reason, never the only reason and may not (sometimes has not) even occurred. I like the clarity of being able to be myself, it's liberating. Even with a spouse, are they in the mood? Are you imposing? It's expected here and SPs are shocked when our session is over and this hasn't happened. Sometimes I otherwise wouldn't but the SP thinks I am so cute and cuddly she seduces me, what fun! I find personal relationships, even with a spouse, can be a mixture of confusing signals. It's so liberating to spend time with a beautiful, intelligent, wonderful lady and not have to worry about anything as the boundaries or even lack of some boundaries (for those moments or rather hours in time) are so well defined with a "professional" companion. This is in contrast to a personal relationship which is completely different. It might only last 4 or 5 hours at a time but at least for that time I get to take a complete vacation from worrying about anything and just revel in the company of a wonderful lady and we are the only two people in the world for that time. So it is the very lack of a relationship combined with a purely "professional" friendship that makes this so special. Her personal relationships or mine don't have any impact whatsoever. They don't even enter the room. -

That's amazing! Great link Nicolette! One of my Court room wins was somewhat similar except I resorted to more conventional, understandable techniques and "proved" that his testimony I had already caused "that he never lost sight my my car" was false as he couldn't see around corners (and I proved this). After Court was over he apologized outside the Court room and said "Hope there are no hard feelings". -

When I was 16 and first got my driver's license I got a ticket for doing 76 in a 50. Of course I wasn't (Radar Russ) as we used to call him in this small town was asleep and the radar woke him up and by the time he came to, I was the car he saw coming. So I hired the most colourful lawyer and he made a mockery of the whole thing in Court for at least an hour of Monty Python style entertainment (really has a reputation for the dramatic flare and he has only gotten worse, or better with age), it was worth every penny of the $300 it costs me to fight a $76.50 ticket as he turned the Court room into a circus :) and won easily. He really earned every penny of his $300 as he called a witness I didn't even know he had who testified he was a taxi driver that passed by Radar Russ several times as day, every day and always laughed because he was sleeping. But in the end, after all that, he dropped the bomb, wrong charge "Speeding in a Business District" and a Business District being defined as having 50% business frontage and Radar Russ had already authenticated the pictures of the forest of trees beside the road as the correct area. Since then, I have fought four tickets I didn't deserve over the years myself and smoked them (won) every time. Sometimes these things are hard to win, even if you should. I remember once I met up with a friend of mine in the Court room and when I told him why I was there, he said, "impossible, you gonna loose, very hard to fight that" and I said well you just stick around and watch, I did my homework. I also paid the fine twice over the years as I was speeding :) Hmmm, maybe if I was as cute and sexy as Cristy or Nicolette Vaughn.... :) -
And mrnice2 is ironically too nice to recommend his own post titled "Cerb Family", but I really think it is a real thoughtful and a classic post that is truly reflective of the way many people around here are. First time experience with SP's stories
backrubman replied to someguy's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Wow, thanks for sharing that. Comparing seeing a lady for the first time with jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft, that's amazing. I'm glad you overcame your fear and perhaps your story gives the ladies at least some insight into some (certainly not all) no shows that are so troublesome for them. Your story (and by no means am I making fun of you, I think you are very courageous to have overcome such fear) is interesting in contrast to my approach NOW in that I find it exciting and comforting to have an appointment, I look forward to it very much, I revel in the time I get to spend with the lady and I smile every time I think about it for weeks afterwards. In fact if I am fearful or stressed out about anything else, it is the best cure I can think of. BTW, Welcome to CERB and thanks for sharing this! -
Are you using Tapatalk? I find it pretty limiting (no comments, can't nominate a post) but also good in other ways. Of course you can do pretty much anything if you use your mobile browser to access CERB but then it is like playing tennis in a closet :) and then I find the formatting of any message can be "strange". Even if I dock my phone and use the full feature web browser, it still doesn't make the grade. I guess the technology has a little ways to go just yet.
-
I agree, always right on RG! But there is one important difference you missed (or at least failed to mention directly which is worthy of mention): If your professional companion has a bad headache, she will cancel and reschedule :)
-
Ouch! Sorry you choose to find that insulting as my comment wasn't aimed directly at you and I only wanted to point out that some balance is necessary as many ladies have related experiences with endless e mailers that never do actually commit to a meeting. So while it was a general comment and not specifically aimed at you, I find my self thinking about apologizing specifically to you as you were "very" insulted and took offense, but no insult was intended so I choose not to. In fact my message started with the words "I agree", so I was specifically agreeing with what you had to say. I am sorry you don't have time to socialize a bit over lunch, to me it is just as enjoyable and a necessary prelude to other activities you do seem to have time for.
